My SWG adventure...

When I downloaded the SWG 14-day trial I knew I was gonnig to like it. After a long DL I made my first Charecter, a zabak (SP) Entertainer. I started out in the city of Mos Esily, which I thought would have lots of people in it. I ran to the nearest Bar and found four NPCs and one PC. I asked the PC very helpful, they gave me 5000 creds and directions to a populated city. I headed to the city of Anchorhead where I was met by five rebels. It kinda pissed me off, how a populated city was five PCs. I shruged it off and began to play. After being there for a few hours I found that it was extreamly boring. I found no purpose in playing a calinet for a living.

So I logged and created another charecter, A rodian pistol user. I played for a few hours with dreams of becoming a rebel smuggler. I tried to group but found once again a empty city. I headed to a play made city to find the same thing. I began to take rebel missions, to the point where I got a TEF for doing them. I had no idea what a TEF was so I contenued as normal. When I arrived back at Ancorhead I saw the first PC I had seen in hours. I walked up to greet him, but he was an Imp, so he put a hole strait through my head. I recieved wounds from it and lost lots of creds, and since I could find no one my wounds were as good as perminate. I got so pissed I quit and uninstalled the game.

Yeah, there's lots of people that don't even try the game or give it a second look and hate it with a passion.

As to the original posters experience with SWG. Sucks that you had a bad experience with SWG. It's not a horrible game, but with out a group of friends to play with, the fun is limited. Unless of course you enjoy soloing. However if you enjoy soloing that much, you'd be better off playing a single player game since there's no monthly fee if you go that route.image

     Totally aggree with Slanger....

Soloing is basically the norm in SWG. Even groups are "solo groups" where people basically only group to increase the mission payout and earn more money....they don't even have to fight together in a group to do this.

IF you got some of your real life friends to try SWG with you, you may find some entertainment lurking within SWG...but if your playing it alone i guess you have pretty well seen how weak the grouping and socialising part of SWG is!

The game itself wasn't that bad. I actually enjoyed it but nobody to play with killed it:(

    Trapper,
If you decide to try it again, get enough money together to go to Coronet on the planet Corellia, or Theed on the planet Naboo. These are two of the most populated cities in the game.

I strongly advise you read up on any game before starting to play it. Check out the forums at sites like Stratics.com

Imagine starting to play DAoC without reading up on anything about it? With the TONS of different races, classes, and professions? BTW, in SWG you are never set or stuck with whatever profession you pick. After you logged into the game you could have instantly learned Medic (which you could have used to heal your own wounds later on.), and you could have learned Pistoleer (or any other combat profession). SWG allows players to learn 3 1/2 professions for a single character. Which no other MMORPG out has. Ahhh but you never made the effort to read up on the game. imageimageimage

The first 6 months or so when SWG was out, new players had far better starting choices. They could start out on other planets, and other cities. Unfortunatly, SWG now forces all new players to start out on the same outback, desert planet Tantooine.

BTW, what was the name of the Server you played on? What time (in GMT time) did you login?

Entertainer profession makes a living healing other players in cantinas, hotels, and at player made camps. It is as if you were a doctor with no patients. But guess what? There are SEVEN other planets out there. You walked around 2 cities on 1 planet. That is litterally 1% of the entire game. Take the game world of DAoC and multiply it by 8 and you will  have an idea of how big the SWG game is and how many cities there are.

So I logged and created another charecter, A rodian pistol user. I played for a few hours with dreams of becoming a rebel smuggler.

Again, if you had first read up a bit on the game you would have found out you can learn Pistoleer for your first character, along with keeping Entertainer, and choosing 1 1/2 more professions (like Medic.) Also a new player should not become a Rebel or Imperial because you are still learning how to play the game. SWG has the most realistic PvP out of every single MMORPG ever made...... except for UO when UO first came out. There is NO place anywhere in the game you can run or hide. No "safe newbie city" LOL! If you want to hunt someone, or someone wants to hunt you, you can kill them anywhere, and they can do the same to you.

I tried to group but found once again a empty city.

Why try only once? Try again! There are 7 other planets, with roughly 50 other cities and outposts. Guess what? When I first started playing the DAoC trial I never saw a single other player! I still kept playing. I traveled. Later I saw more, and met other players by the 3rd day I was playing. It took me 3 days to find a group.

In SWG, the official site has forums for each server. Post on the forum for your server. Say something like you are a new player and looking for a group. And what time in GMT time you normally play. Also the game itself has chat channels for players looking for groups.

I headed to a play made city to find the same thing. I began to take rebel missions, to the point where I got a TEF for doing them. I had no idea what a TEF was so I contenued as normal.

You obviouisly skipped the ingame tutorial at the start. It is on you that you had no idea what TEF ment. What do you expect if you on purpose do not do the ingame tutorial, and you on purpose do not make an effort to read up on a game before playing it?

When I arrived back at Ancorhead I saw the first PC I had seen in hours. I walked up to greet him, but he was an Imp, so he put a hole strait through my head. I recieved wounds from it and lost lots of creds, and since I could find no one my wounds were as good as perminate. I got so pissed I quit and uninstalled the game.

      1. Again, if you had taken the ingame tutorial, it tells you how to recignize enemies on your radar before they are close enough to kill you. You can also adjust the range of your radar.

      2. Why are you surprised that an Imperial put a hole through you? You decided to side with the Rebels. You DO know that in Star Wars the enemy of the Rebels are the Imperials? Thus you should be ready to run into an Imperial.

      3. Again, if you had read up on the game, you would know that you can also learn Medic skills, along with being an Entertainer. You would have been able to heal yourself. Also, even with no medical attention, your character will gradually heal. Wounds in SWG are not permenant. Especially if you only die one time. ALSO you need to visit a building called a hospital if you want to find medical treatment. You can't get major operations done on you by other player doctors in the middle of the street.

      4. You seem to be the type with very little patience. You go on about how you "got pissed". Hey guess what? It is a game. You win some, and lose some. And you are far more likely to lose if you do not take the in game tutorial, and read up on the game a bit at either the official site, or a major site like Stratics.com.

I think you should go back to your high level character in DAoC. SWG actually does have a very steep learning curve when one first starts to play it. And taking the ingame tutorial is mandatory to understanding what the heck is going on after entering the game. If you do not have the patience for the tutorial, then you are better off not playing the game. You experienced less than 1% of it, and have arrogantly formed your opinion about the entire game from that. Go back to DAoC. image At least you know for a fact what game you do enjoy. No problem with that. image

For any lurkers out there, what should have been done was:

      - First browse and lurk and post at the forums at Stratics.com. Then create a character, pick a server.

      - Do NOT skip the ingame Tutorial. SWG has a learning curve. The tutorial makes things much easier.

      - Then browse, and post on the official SWG forms for the specific server one choose to play on. There are stickies for active PAs (Player Associaitions aka Guilds) that are recruiting. One can also post that they are a new player looking for a group.

     - Back in the game, pull up the chat channels to find other players looking for a group. Immediatly find a NPC trainer and train in Medic profession. And some kind of combat profession. (Range is best. Especially when starting the game.) Do a few missions to make enough credits to take a ship to another planet like Corellia, or another planet in the Corellian system, or planet Naboo.  The scenery, beaches, etc... tend to attract more players to those planets. The capital cities on each of those planets tend to have the most players. (Coronet on Corellia. Theed on Naboo.)

     - Joining a PA makes a load of difference in SWG. Though it is possible to solo if one likes to solo. Just like in EQ, and DAoC, being in a guild makes and adds a whole different type of gameplay, and immersion.

    ROFL!!!

Hey guys i play swg 24/7 and i find that the topic creator's comments where very odd because:

    1. Play on the server Bria and youll find many people.

    2. Take a ship to Coronet and youll feel the lagg.

    3. There are many people on swg so i dont know why u didnt see anyone in Mos Eisley since that is the most laggiest place on Bria. Even more lagg then Coronet.

    4. Why dont you actually play swg for more then 1 week maybe then you will know where to meet people eh? did that ever cross your mind?.

    Thx Grim.
