There is something that made me feel uneasy. Maybe I am getting paranoid, but after 2 years of rumors they make a long awaited press conference, big fuzz... and the information is meager at best. I dunno, from a big press conference, such a long awaited outing I had expected something more substantial. I mean, the entire conference took quite a time but essentially little was said. It has story. It has companions. Ok, and its more or less stylized in graphics, but that was pretty much all. Am I the only one who feels thats really quite little info given the fact we waited so long and they worked at it for about 2 years?
On almost every topic of even the slightest interest they said "no comment at this time", and you start feeling like some secret agent working on the next kind of weapon of mass destruction or what. I mean, ok, they dont want to overhype it, but it leaves the impression, what the heck did they do in those 2 years? IS there really more and they just dont talk?
Ok, admitted the emotional fuzz is as expected high, higher than with a MMO not for Star Wars. Its dangerous terrain to cross. Still, I feel a bit underwhelmed in the mass, detail and regularity of the info, or more the total lack of it. I had expected the 21st would only begin massive information coming, regular news, but now... Its kinda weird, like telling us about a big surprise and then vanish into silence. Kinda dissappointed about that.
I mean, the longer I think about it, the weirder it feels. What did they REALLY say we didnt know or be quite certain about? There would be Sith and Jedi. Wow, thats a revelation. There would be the Republic and some Sith Empire. Wow. And it would be about story and characters... given we have Bioware none should really be surprised about that. So in the end I felt the really new info was close to zero. Just watch the official forums, it runs rampant with speculation since about every single vital part we know more or less zero. Crafting, Housing, open world, whatever you personal favourite part is, its all very very unclear, so why announce it at all, when there is pratically nothing to announce but the name?
Now I know some may say, they should announce it later, when it makes less fuzz, but is that realistic? Will ANY announcement make any LESS fuzz at any later time? Granted that some things they will announce WILL be controversial. But its like if you know you HAVE to go to a dentist, sure you dont like it, but no delaying will make it easier. You know it wont be a heck easier to go to the dentist next week, so you might as well go now. But who knows, maybe its really still SO far away, they actually, really dont know. If so, we can as well end debating, for who knows if there is even such a thing as money in 2012, given the current crisis.

Yes I agree,
I really dislike the way they did this due to the fact that all the info is general in nature and even the screenshots are supposed to be pre-alpha. (many people think they suck)
Please Game Comapanies if you want to HYPE your game for marketing reasons please wait and show us a detailed representaion of your game for release not crap that will most likley change over the course of development.
Think AOC people... way hyped..... and to many, a huge let down...
i agree it is hard to be patient when we've been anticipating this for years already. I know its all about marketing. So i try to be patient.
Hmm, I checked out the video of the announcement and it sounds like they are farther along than I thought. Anyway, I wasnt sure if you guys had seen this already. But in either case here it is....

I agree too, personally i would like to know who their target audience is (at least might stop some of the arguments)
So far, this seems to be the best site for information. They have done interviews on particular subjects like classes, crafting etc...

theyre playing the PR game. Like a politician, they dont want to alienate any potential voter / subscriber
Bioware isnt about to state for a fact that TOR isnt a sandbox MMO (even though we all know it isnt). They arent going to come out and say crafting is an afterthought. They'll spin it to keep us guessing. Being vague is a PR strategy.
when 75 million dollars goes into a project, nothing is left to chance. I guarantee you every dev statement was prepared by their PR department. Most likely interviews have pre-approved questions or at least the devs have been prepped by a PR official to practice their responses. Nobody is shooting answers from their hips when this much money is at stake.
Honesty these days isnt profitable
The predictions I've seen estimate the game for a 2010-2011 release. Yes, they've been working on it for a bit, but they still have quite a bit of further development to undertake. Kinda hard to release details on things they haven't fully decided upon and worked out for themselves yet, isn't it? It sounds like they have a good, general idea for most of the game, but the specifics aren't fully decided upon yet, so you're asking for details that just don't exist yet. Have patience. Your drive-thru-FEED-ME-NAO!!!!111 need for information will go unsated for a while longer.
Also, see Admriker4's post - the PR buzz they've gotten thus far it a great by-product, I'm sure they're milking it for all it's worth.

For a game thats probably 2 or more years from release - the info is fine.
The problem with releasing all the details early - is that until the game hits beta - not all features are in the game (and even then some arent) - so why start endless discussions and complaints from people about things that arent definite.
From games I have seen in the past - information seems to be very thin on the ground early on - with more coming out at various game conferences where they give demos.
You get the big hit when they have a definite release date and can actually invest money into marketing that wont be wasted.
They are being vague for 2 reasons. First, they don't want to be seen as promising one thing then delivering another (aka SWG). Second, they don't want to hype the game up. Every MMO since WoW has been overhyped and then bombed. The overhype set the community's expectations way too high, and the game could never live up to it. Bioware is being smart by not revealing enough information to get you really hyped over it.
Dont you understand it is impossible for them to submit information. They simply HAVE none. It's newly announced and probably YEARS from alpha. Anything they say now is probably gone within months or reworked completely.
If you eager so much for information you must really like what you've heard so far. But you can FORGET about this game for some years now if you are this eagerful already. For your own good.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
Dude, the game is years away. Information will come out when they are ready to give it. Have a little bit of patience.
