So I played this game when it came out, quit, and came back when CoV came out, then quit again because it was just very boring. Has the game changed from pretty much a straight grind? I mean I remember hitting level 20 and still having like maybe 10 abilities total and it just got repetative, you do the same thing, same order of abilities, to every enemy. If the game has changed would anyone mind highlighting how it is different? Greatyly appreciated.

The things you hated about it are pretty much the same.
What i just don't understand is why people hate the way this game is. They say that it's a grind, that you do the same thing in the same order with every enemy. What I just can't figure out is how this is worse then any other game. In WoW you do the same thing, only difference is that as you progress in CoH you fight new enemies with cool stories for every mission. In WoW you go collect some stuff for NPCs in one area until you can move to the next area and collect more stuff for NPCs in the second area. BUT WAIT!!!!! The drop rates in the second area are not as good as the first area so its more of a challenge.
I tried WAR earlier this month and its just like WoW. Target, auto attack, make a sammich. Theres also no change in the quests they are all go find this, go find that. I can't handle that cr ap.
Give me a game that makes me plan a bit. A game that has good stories and something I can do other then just click auto attack.
edit: I seem to have gone a bit of a rant there. Sorry about the threadjack.
Hmm well, they've added an invention system. This includes crafting and a market to buy and sell. You can make costume pieces and power enhancements. That's different, and I like it.
They've also included a new villain/hero co-op zone where you save the planet from alien invasion lol. That's fun. Also, new task forces offer a lot of variety in terms of setting, story, mission type. They also now include movie cut scenes and take a lot less time to complete (2 hours approx for the last two added).
There's a new midnight club story arc to get into a secret club where there's a mystery puzzle mini-game. At the right level the club also leads to a new zone with an ancient Rome theme. Again, this is a co-op zone.
They've done a lot to add some diversity, and they've done a good job.
Issue 14 will also see a mission creator where you can customize missions and bosses for friends. Right now they're working on new content for the Roman zone, making each toon have two optional builds, and rebalancing powers, especially pvp. The last part is bitter sweet for me because I like the high speed super-powered pvp as is. The changes will slow things down some, which some people want, I guess because they have a hard time landing a hit at the current speed.
It's because in WoW, you pretty much keep gaining new abilities and constantly cchanging your gear for different situations, as well as adding more talents, so you are constantly changing whereas in CoH you really just get a new ability every 2 levels or so, and that's it. WoW has lore, a LOT more lore (story) than CoH or CoV imo the thing is no one takes the time to read it or pay attention. From what you are saying though, you are more of a RP person and CoH is based more around storyline whereas WoW has the choice or following heavy lore or not. personally I am a PvE raiding person, I like to conquer stuff as a team that takes lots of planning, but I don't like being forced to read the lore.
CoX has the Rikti Mothership raids. Is the Hamidon raid still up? They never did fix the Cavern of Trancendence trial... *sigh*
Does WoW have anything like the CoX Task/Strike forces?
It's also possible to ignore the lore in CoX. Well, maybe not the cut scenes, but you don't have to read the novels. Or click on "Tell me about this character." And you can always just click on "Talk about what else is going on" instead of reading the story arc stuff.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.
When it comes to lore WoW disappointed me. A lot. I wasn't impressed with the talent trees and you still only gain a new ability every other level just like CoH. Only difference is you have to watch your gold so you can get that new ability and the gear that you need to be useful. So that you can get on a team to run a dungeon and hope you win the roll for the even better gear.
I made it to level 54 on WoW. At that point I just could not handle going out and killing another 40 wolves to get 10 wolf ears or 50 crocolisks to get 5 skins. If CoH asks me to go kill 15 crey I know that every one I kill is going to count.
Just seems like WoW is more of a grind then any other game i've played.
You actually seem more interested in making the maxed out character. Most people don't consider that PVE. PVE is going in a play the game to have fun, which really should include enjoying the lore and the progression.
To each thier own though. You like what you like and i like what I like. Thats what makes the MMO world go round.
COH isnt rly conparable to WoW :P and I guess it's all about prefence and play style. I just tried CoH today for the first time and I wasnt at all impressed by anything the game has all though im only lvl 2 ill try it till bout 10 if I still dont like it then ill just uninstall... seems its just not my style, even though I like comics and super heros this one doesnt appeal to me.
I like city of heroes because you look unique and in WoW every lvl 40 warlock has about the same outfit since there is that one robe that just fits the best. And the color schemes in WoW were ridiculous I had like a purple robe, red shoes and a yellow belt

The mob grinding can get very linear at times, but it's more fun when you team with friends or take on Taskforces (hard missions with a cool reward).
I also like the way you travel in coh/cov it's fast and easy, the supergroup bases are cool and most of all the community rocks. It's not flooded with 12 year old boys and girls ripping each other off for some gold or cursing eachother to death.(like in wow
But I agree with the poster above me, it helps if you have a thing for comics n stuff.
What I loved about the game when I played was the costumes and being unique. I did have many issues which resulted in me departing but that was after bout a year of subscription. I was really attached to my avatar really strong however.
Grinding wise- well it was cool they at least gave you the freedom to grind. I mean, we'll you;'ll see. There is a lot of super linear quest based treadmills coming out that give you stank mob XP so they try to force you to only grind quests. Which sucks
In CoX, people dont care what quest/mission it is. Just turn up the difficulty and watch the XP swim down
Now in comparison to WoW well the leveling was faster and it did feel like they reward you a lot more with more skills and talents. However, you know CoX had its own little niche it did real well
too bad it felt like a grind for you. I'd reocmmend not coming back if you feeling a grind as a lowbie. Or if you returned to it, find a Guild pronto. Players can help powerlevle each other in this game or used to when I last played. probably nerfed by now

wow raiding consists of downloading the way to take out XYZ raid, then everyone performing their pre-scripted actions.... again and again and again and again... the same old script in the same old instance, until everyone gets enough of THAT tier of gear.
wow redefined how boring a grind can be.
not much lore in "hey, those ogres are bothering me, go whack 50 of them and i'll give you a magic weapon".
by the by, the little blue men pretty much blew all of warcraft's lore to smithereens.
COx has a lot more build options with the IO sets. lots of giant monsters, tf/sf, av/hero for teams to take on.
but, whatever. wow is coming out with a new expansion shortly.

WoW has no lore? Awesome. You must have been playing blindfolded (Which is possible, mind you) or you didn't play it at all.

^^^ Wisdom. I might try WoW's new expansion but I hate how linear they are- giving me only like 2 options for endgame gear from what I'm told. Then again I'll probably skip the expansion such awful memories. I only miss my real life friends that still play; not the game. Just them
