Inspired by another thread that was mostly tongue in cheek, here's my REAL top 10 things Mythic should have done to make War better:
1) Tome of Knowledge should have worked as advertised. Nuff said.
*Note: After being informed that the Tome is working as intended, I'll change #1 above to read
1) All "Kill X of Y" quests should work like the Kill collector quests. Nuff said.
2) Classes should not have been race or gender specific - maybe limited to 2 races and maybe limited to 1 gender within one of the races, but never a single race nor a single gender only. There's not enough variety or uniqueness that way.
3) Influence rewards should have been much greater and influence should have been much harder to come by so more people would participate in the PQ's. I can get all the influence I need for a chapter by participating in 1 PQ all the way to the end, give or take a bit. Since there are several PQ's for a chapter, you should have to participate in at least all the ones for the chapter from beginning to end to get all the influence you need. If you want to run the same one 3 or 4 times in a row that's fine too, but it should take more than 1 PQ run for a chapter.
4) Scenario "warmup" time should have been increased to allow people enough time to finish up what they are doing when the message comes up before the scenario starts. I think it's like 2 mins now, it should be at least double that to allow people time to zone in and get ready for the scenario. I wait sometimes 20 or 30 minutes to get into a scenario, I can wait another 2 minutes to get it going with a full team and not 1/2 the people still zoning in.
5) Either have a lot fewer champions or make killing a champion a lot more lucrative. I don't believe I've gotten anything of value from a champion and I'm risking my life everytime I fight one. This encourages people to avoid them and since they are everywhere, this turns questing into a game of hide and seek with the champions rather than what it should be. A few well placed champions with really nice drops would be fine.
6) Anything that can be modified in the user interface should be saved to a setting and stay that way till I change it. Why on earth I have to zoom out on the mini-map everytime I play is beyond me. When I choose Skirmish stance as a Shadow Warrior, I should stay in Skirmish stance until I choose a different one. If I die, I should still be in Skirmish stance. It's annoying as hell to have to put myself back into the stance I want everytime I die.
7) Auction House filters should work as expected. When I say I only want to see Shadow Warrior stuff, then damn it don't show me anything that can only be used by the Empire. I'm a Shadow Warrior and because of #2 above you know that I'm a freakin' High Elf.
8) Altdor being the only major city for the Order should show up on ALL the races flightmaster maps as a place to go to, not just the Empire map. I'm a High Elf, I shouldn't have to look on the Empire map to fly there. I realize this was probably caused by the fact that there were going to be multiple major cities, but damn it, if you are going to remove them, then put the 1 that's left on the freakin' flightmaster map.
9) Add target of target at least for your allies. I should be able to easily see who my fellow teammates are
targeting without having to setup my own little macro to /assist them. Most newbies have no clue how to setup a macro or use slash commands, do them a favor and do it for them.
10) Use more than just color to distinguish between quests that are available, completed or in-progress. I'm color blind and have a hard time distinguishing between green/yellow/orange on the minimap. Put a green square, a yellow circle or a orange diamond at the very least.
Comments
I agree with some, but some are just nitpicky. Most are things that could be small tweaks as the kinks get ironed out and some are small bugs that will get fixed in time again as the kinks get ironed out. This is launch. I remember WoW at launch had entire days where the AH wouldn't even work. This kind of stuff happens.
I would add though some things I think that would make the game better and some bugs I have found:
1) When disabling the hat showing and you zone it still says it isn't shown but it is.
2) Animations get out of order and your character can take funny default poses.
3) The rear ends of empire horses could use some polish animation wise.
4) More drops on set gear. I went through all of Tier 2 and only had one set item drop for my class around that Tier. I participated in everything to get drops, but I don't see anyone completing a Tier 2 set unless they use the AH and even then the items are few and far between.
5) There are some freakishly amazing AI interactions in PQ's, but not near enough. One I saw was two dark elves trying to move this runed stone and one was an idiot and they were talking about how to lift it and the other one snapped at him and grabbed it and turned into a horse. The other one said that it served him right for trying to pick up the stones and it was pretty funny. They should add more of this to PQ's haha.
6) This one is huge, and I would like to see in an expansion: Add an entirely seperate rank called Army rank or something similar where no matter your level you can have a level 1 army. They start weak but you can grow them in experience, etc. and you control them on strategic maps like an RTS with your character as the hero. You can do this as groups or solo and they can be instanced RvR areas that add to the control of a zone. Players should be able to raise their army to the max level even if their rank is low, or not use this system at all if they don't want. It would just add something more RTS and Warhammer TT to the game. If they added this correctly they would see huge success.
This is not up to mythic. And GW made them come up with the heli freak thing for dwarves
1. be original and not copy WoW
2. make a skill based system not preset classes
3. offer a large seamless world without any instancing
4. include a significant death penalty so players respect the environment
5. offer meaningful PvP with consequences and rewards for losing/winning in battle like looting
6. design real quests that require problemsolving and exploring, not kill 10 x this tasks
7. have challenging and meaningful harvesting/crafting with quality player made items
8. reward most experience from combat to avoid linear quest treadmill
9. build on a realistic living breathing world thru realistic travel times, realistic character weight capacity, realistic weather conditions, realistic day and night cycles and restricted vision in darkness, etc.
10. call your game Darkfall
They are all pretty much nitpicky, but on the other hand I think they are pretty much common sense things that should have been done. That was the purpose of the thread. I'm in no way suggesting these are the top 10 things that need to be fixed. That's a completely different list.
Heh. If you're thinking Darkfall will be something new and groundbreaking, I'm sorry you're going to be sorely disappointed. Darkfall will simply be more of the same except with PvP with a harsh death penalty and graphics that are already behind the times.
Warhammer is what it is. You either like it or you don't. Trying to bash it in favor of /your/ favorite game is meaningless, because the people playing this game will mostly disagree.
THis is in response to Pappy's post, some of which should simply be sent to Mythic themselves through the in game Feed Back button.
1. What doesn't it do you think it should? Honestly what do you know aren't you a WoW Fanatic? Have you actually followed this game? The TOME does everything lists everything opens quests etc
2. YOu obviously know nothing about Warhammer Lore. WoW had no real lore on what races could be what classes the same with Everquest and a few other games but Warhammer does. Warhammer has had this existing lore for 25 years. To dwindlign it down to a, b, and c would be utter destruction..it would not be WAR it would be something else. I'v enever bought a miniature for any game where Race A's tank is the same as Race B's tank and they're both called a Warrior. It seems cheap and lame to only offer a small set of classes and to basically do away with Lore.
3. Influence is supposed to be easy for the first 2 Tiers they are not supposed to be Grind Mechanics. The best gear will never come from Influence it'll come from doing Dungeons & PvP. This is a PvP game if you want to grind WoW is ----> that way. Personally if they made it anymore grindy I'd be really pissed off. btw if you actually got past Chapter 2 or 3 then you'd know that there's Multiple PQ's and by doing them all 1 or 2 times you max out your bar but by Chapter 5 you have to start doing the pq's 4 or 5 times or more since the influence rewards start becoming Blues.
4. I agree it needs a slightly longer count down IN the scenario. As for the queue entrance message I think it should be shorter its really annoying to start with people showing up 2 to 4 mins in.
5. Hmm Im on the fence with this one...the champions atleast in PQ's are just supposed to make Stage 2 harder they're not really meant to drop alot of loot thats what Heros do. (some champions are Tome unlocks etc so they open up things you can get at the Library).
6. I agree use the Feedback button its like the UI interface from any game sometimes they don't think of everything.
7. I agree its annoying I can't even filter out stuff by crafting type like I really want to just see cultivation items but I can't and its frustrating when you dont know all the possible names of items. I'm sure with enough complaints through the Feed back someone will fix it.
8. Its nitpicky but I agree...adn I honestly think they should have City Only Flight masters available in every other chapter hub or atleast more than just the Warcamp..its a pain in the ass to go to the bank.
9. Man I never thought of that..it'd be so much better than having to macro /assist. They duel target system is there they should let you choose on the UI interface who to simply assist so you always see their target if you target them (you obviously don't want to as a healer target someone while fighting another person and lose your target).
10. I'd call it a nitpick but there are alot of color blind people out there. You should suggest this to them in the feedback or atleast WarhammerAlliance.com. BUT seeing as the UI is 100 percent customizable with LUA / XML you can probably just create a new texture yourself and script it in. The scrips are in the interface file. (Or have someone make you the script).
Things I'd like to see .... and have been working on an intelligent way to suggest it through the feedback button...
11. Being able to right click / fast insert objects into the crafting slots for cultivation, talisman making etc. There's only certain places the items can go there's no reason this option can't be available.
12. Being able to drag and drop ietms onto the Cultivation's home page instead of opening up each plot..its a pain in the ass to open each plot its like a mad clicking game.
13. Sending Mail to yourself...if they wont add more flight masters to the city they should atleast have a 'parcel' service that costs a little more than regular mail and lets you ship multiple items (probably a max of 4) only to yourself. I hate going back to empty out my bags of ingredients all the time.
14. Would be nice if the ToK would keep a list of what seeds grow what and a possiblity of which extracts...its obvious what potions can be made out of what but its NOT at all with cultivation.
15. A noob Tutorial that simply walks people through how to use the public group system and other little things that most of us are tired of answering for the x millions who dont' seem to research anything. Or they have no idea that Public Grouping even exists!!
I love how your requests make it some random X Game instead of a Warhammer game..I've never bought or made a Warhammer character that I have to grind out skills in order to make them a front line fighter or a caster. Its utterly ridiculous to make these comments about an IP game...IP / Lore games will always be Class based because people who love that world want to be the elite classes they don't want to be Farmer John who beats up squigs so he can become a Squig herder.
This is a fast & furious RvR game not the old school proven to fail grind your life away to get anywhere game.
i actually caught myself laughing out loud, wondering about what you might be thinking when riding your horse
This is not up to mythic. And GW made them come up with the heli freak thing for dwarves
I don't know, there are ways around the lore. Maybe they wanted to stay as true to the lore as possible, but I think sometimes you got to do what's best for the game even if it's not 100% true to the lore. Others may disagree.
OP, you should send Mythic feedback, if you didnt. I agree with some of your points but I think all of them are good ones.
In WAR's website, in the herald, you can send feedback.
You had me reading every point, but when I reached #10, I wish I had just ignored you. Darkfall praising forums are -----> that way.

Most companies value their lore pretty highly and don't like to butcher it as Blizzard does.
Also, your complaint about the influence and PQs, it will take more as you get higher in Chapters. I can only guess that you must be a lower level still. Chapters 6,7 and 8 so far (and I am only level 16) were not close to being finished while completing an entire PQ from start to finish. Maybe 2 PQs from Start to Finish but that is even questionable.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

There are not 'ways' around lore. You can't go around lore if your making an IP game and you want the game to Be Warhammer or Star Wars etc. When SW aborted Lore people got rather pissed off don't kid yourself here. Some Games are Set and tahts just the way it is.
Anyone thats been following this game thats a warhammer fan would pretty much tell Mythic to go to hell and I'm sure Games Workshop wouldn't allow them to make the game if they simply aborted the lore. They don't own it there for they can not butcher it. I can tell you right now that if you went to any of the Warhammer dedicated websites and spoke with fans of the Warhammer Lore and told them this suggestion of aborting the lore and making it EZ mode Kiddy choices on classes they'd laugh in your face and if Mythic had done this their game would of never got off the ground.
People want to play WAR because they get to be The Chosen or The Bright Wizard etc thats what makes Warhammer Warhammer.

As you get higher into the chapters PQs become progressively harder and take more time to max influence. PQs at rank 20 start giving you blue rewards for max inf and I believe 30+ begins giving out epic rewards for max inf. This does not include the items that can be won in loot sacks for participating.

You are talking about Freaking GAMES WORKSHOP!
This is the giant that watches companies, writers, and trends rise and fall.
This is the judge that sits through the ages.
The Black Library is the host through which all their thoughts and dreams become reality!
You can't freaking touch anthing with a Games Workshop logo without seeing truth unveiled!
We are only a spec of dust in the world that GW has made!
Amen.
Thx for the information. I'll do that.
11. Wait for said game as it will never be released.
Truly amazing how naive some people are.
I can understand why you don't understand the wait comment. The game is 'building you up' its 'progression you' to bigger and better and badder things over time. Instead of the tride and vicous 'boom' the game is completely different at the End mechanic that SO many games including WoW are guilty of.
This is a good thing for say people who are 'new' to MMOs or atleast 'new' to playing something outside of Lineage 2 or Everquest or insert game of choice here. The 40 pve levels are essentially a 'tutorial' you'll notice as you go through the Tiers that the challenge of the areas etc 'progressively' get harder and require you to do more.
In Tier 2 if you want renown training and gear you have to participate or atleast attempt to reach a Keep this is a new 'layer' adding 'depth' over time instead of over loading a persons senses.
The PvE works the same way. At Tier 2 you get your first 'dungeon' experience in the cities. Its 3 wings you must complete in order to open a main boss. By Tier 3 you get your first public dungeon its 'harder' requires more of a 'realm' effort to a point and it requires you to do all 3 wings.
PQs also get harder and depending on which area your at they get alot more complicated.
Well in my opinion that is not how the guy described it in the video I watched. The way he described it was very exciting to me, being able to complete quests when I had already done the work. The way you just described it working is not nearly as good or exciting. If they always intended it to work as you have just described it, then they missed the mark. And if your right that it keeps tracks of all my kills, then why NOT complete the quest for me? Why force me to kill 10 MORE boars when I have already killed 10 and you clearly only wanted 10 dead ones.
I'm sorry, but I think the way it works and the way they originally intended it to work are not one in the same thing. Perhaps there was a technical issue or perhaps it didn't work well in testing or caused some other issue, but whatever the case I wanted what was described, not what was given.
Ah now I see where your coming from..yea that part does suck .. Its not 100 percent like the video but I can see where this would caused problems from a programmetic stand point. Sometimes what sounds good on paper doesn't actually work well when you go to program it. I've dealt with this stuff all the time at my job.
I'd use the this is a PvP game blabbity excuse but it really is just the fact there was design flaws in how that'd work. There are quests that work this way but they're rather rare they're not meant to be a major focus...it'd probably been better if Paul hadn't of yapped on it in their design videos (not Promises NONE of those videos were promises just explinations of the current design at the time their only promises were pvp and sieging cities).
There are however quests you don't have to take to complete and they appear in your tome sometimes you won't even know it until you've killed a creature and it goes "you've unlocked a reward at the library" or whatever the message is. There are Tome Quests..but Paul DID exaggerate how the system works alot.

Wait... Wait wait...
You mean Kill quests? The Paul Barnett video where he talks about killing bears? and bear paws?
The video states that these are one of the types of quests available...
Not that all kill quests were like this, just some.
I went back during beta and watched many of the videos, this one in particular, after doing some of the quests. He does say some of the quests are like this, not all.
I was surprised too and sure all quests were supposed to be that... but nope, he refers to them as only some.
This is a flamebait thread and has been reported. Pappy is a well known Blizzard shill.
