Buying New Ram HELP!!!

G_RavenorG_Ravenor Member Posts: 108

Ok I am totally confused by the different figures and numbers all I can understand is the amount of ram, which would be 2 GiG per slot, at 4GB total, now thw following are my options, from the crucial website and used their scanner to see what would work on my system....

1st Up..

Module Size: 4GB kit (2GBx2)

Package: 240-pin DIMM

Feature: DDR2 PC2-4200

Specs: DDR2 PC2-4200 • CL=4 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-533 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64

2nd option

Module Size: 4GB kit (2GBx2)

Package: 240-pin DIMM

Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300

Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

3rd option

Module Size: 4GB kit (2GBx2)

Package: 240-pin DIMM

Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400

Specs: DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

Now ok these 3 are listed as the same price, which is why I am confused not being very computer savvy, if it helps, I need the RAM to play WAR and prenium Graphics on EVE, I do understand that there are different speeds, if that is the difference, which is the higher speed ans how do you tell (I do listen so would learn and not feel the need to make posts like this again)...

Thanks

shhh... you might wake the trolls

Bottom is the best because it has the bigger transfer rate.  800mhz.  CL is CAS Latency.  Lower is better but that is secondary to the transfer rate.

definitely 3rd option. pc 6400 is still widely used in alot of sweet systems. the first 2 are mediocre at best IMO.

The third option is best out of the ones you listed. However, memory prices are droping rapidly at the moment so I recommend, if you have the money, go jump a step up and get the DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500). Your motherboard needs to be able to support it as well, but it more than likely will.

Again, these aren't going to be the same prices in a couple of months...
