what is one thing that is in almost every single mmo? Besides all the grinding, go from point a to point b, read lots of dialogue, what is one thing you do most of the time? What is that one thing that progesses you further in the game? The answer is simple, combat. Combat makes you go further in the mmo for the most part. Now i have to ask, why are we trying to focus on things like how much crap we can put into the game just to waste your time and money. Why cant we make the basics of the game fun like how you fight fun? I think this is why people are turned away by most mmo's. Wow's combat is a bunch of rabbits hoppin around swinging swords and whatever. warhammer is the same only without the jumping. conan actually tried something different and put in combos and actually gets you involved in the fighting. they tried to focus on what you do most of the time in the game, combat. and despite of all the people who fear change, it is indeed fun. most people are just into the how much time you put into the game to get all the cool stuff just to brag in the game. they arnt into the basics like is it fun playing? this i believe is why so many people are mad at conan. now everyone please stop taking these games seriously and just play it for fun.

That is the thing, you can add all the options and skills you want in a game but if the core game is boring then I will not play it.
Things like raids, PvP, city building, skill trees etc. are icing and what should be a delicious cake but if the cake is bad you can't just gob icing on it to cover it up.
Think about this, choose a MMOG and now hypothetically if that game were magically turned into a single player game would you still play it, if the answer is no then the gameplay, and most likely the combat is flawed.
I have yet to play an MMOG that had good combat they all range from tolerable to awful, and really I think MMOGs rely too much on extra features and the fact that the game is a social game to make up for their lack of core gameplay.
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
Hm, I kind of think that's backwards. If you want a single player game, play a single player game. If you're playing an mmo, it should stand or fall on its merits as a multiplayer, social environment. They need completely different features to be successful.
Still, I agree. Most games have lousy combat systems. There's no player skill involved, just stats. Even if they can''t make it twitch based, they could at least add some elements of strategy.
I also don't think combat needs to be the focus. I think the economy makes the most sense as the centerpoint. It's the one area where all playstyles can come together.

I agree with OP 100% except the conan part, I thought the new combat system would be good like mount and blade, but its horrible all it did was add more buttons to macro/mash.
This is also why i think Fps/Tps mmos will be the majority in the next few years. Most of my favorite mmo's are fps 10six endlessages wwiionline planetside neocron and just look at a few titles on the way.
Huxley, The agency, Earthrise, Fallen earth, APB, Darkfall, Jumpgate evolution and a million korean games.
