Recomendations if starting FFXI.

I recently just came back to this game, I have a bunch of friends so i fell into it smoothly but just reading the forums it looks like alot of people are having some problem.

First off, one of the best tools for this game is windower  http://www.windower.net

It pretty much sets itself up, but if you want  you can look into the options more to change many things. I recomend this to everyone playing the game.

Controls:

The keyboard is your friend, get rid of the mouse you will never use it. If you like the gamepad then you can just ignore this.

You have to take a step back if your used to other mmos, this game will handle very differently so it will take a bit to get used to.

The NUMPAB

This is what you will use almost exclusivly. Your right had should always be here unless your typing or using arrow keys.

here is they key breakdown

/  = toggle Walk/run

* = lock/unlock target, if nothing is targeted you will heal(sit/rest)

- = Main menu (get used to this you will use it alot)

7 = combind with 8 which moves you forward this will make you auto run.

8 4 6 2 = movement keys, its pretty simple

+ = chat window enlarge key.

Enter = its the enter key, use it to select anything.

5 = zoom to first person or zoom out.

9 3 = zoom camera in and out.

ARROW KEYS:

These are your menu keys, use them to scroll through menus that you have open. If you are not in a menu it will move the camera around.

KEYBOARD:

If your not on compact setting you will only use these to type to people.

TAB: IMPORTANT, this is your targeting button learn to use it to cycle through targets, it can take a second somtimes but you will get good at it.

ESC: Exit any UI menu or w/e you are in at the moment, I use this often

Fkeys: These are your macro keys, You will use a combination or ctrl F1-F10 or Alt, these can be complicated to setup so here is some help with it.
