LF Perfect Class (Mage Knight?)

nytlemgrnytlemgr Member Posts: 50

I'm looking for recommendations on any games that are currently available (or will be soon) which include a class that can be described as such...

Looking for a heavily armored, single or dual wielding class that also can learn magic of some sort (dark or good), preferably elemental magic (fire, ice).

I know I'm asking for a lot in one class but it would be my dream class. So educate me my fellow gamers. Thanks!!

On paper that sounds like a Red Mage or Dark Knight from FFXI or a Shaman from WoW. The sad reality is though Red Mages and Shaman spend the end game of their respective games as healer/support classes, and Dark Knights rarely cast their elemental spells since the damage is subpar. Maybe something like Blue Mage from FFXI, but it could take awhile to unlock it and learn all the spells you want.

PS. The "Mage Knight" kind of archetype is my preferred class too.

CoX - Champion (Hero) - Guardian (Villain)
    FFXI - Diabolos
WoW - Trollbane (Horde) - Misha (Ally)

Thanks for the info. I just got of the phone with my friend who also suggested the Dark Knight in FFXI.

SK from Lineage 2 works there, so does the blade dancer.  Shammy from WoW almost fits that, it lacks the armor and does nature damage (thats elemental, sorta).  and of course in Guild wars you could make exactly that, it just may be very gimp.

also the new deathknight fits that pretty well, or perfectly.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

I don't play Wow but I was looking at the DeathKnight. My only problem is I perfer realistic armor like in GW/L2. Maybe Aion will have this class type, anyone know?

Dark Templar in AoC was also suggested to me. I quit AoC many months ago due to the plauge of problems. But at least I have a few more options to consider.

Guild Wars (buy once, free/no subscription) has an Open 2 class system - Warrior/Necro is what I played. You could do a Warrior/Mage instead

Runes of Magic (F2P in Closed Beta, due for release in December) has a 2 class system where you could be a Knight/Mage as well.

Runes of Magic looks to be a good choice when released, I will be sure to check it out.

I see and inherent problem with the OP's request of a tank, with high damage weapons and also buffing abilities/nuke spells.

Hes asking for a "god" class i think, and there is a reason they dont put such classes in games, unless its the sole class in game.

I do know that in Runes of Magic that you can choose a fighter main class and mage seconday class, and some games offer spell sword classes and such, but youll find that the more fighter the class is the less magic class they are.

Also i know that in Ryzom you can be both, in fact everyone does.

Cabal also offers cross class skills that can be leveld, although you wont be a very good mage fighting with a sword as you wont have to skills for it. They do offer a force blader which is like a rogue type that uses magic based fighting skills.

Theres a lot more games that offer a type of hybrid character, but usualy you wont find a plate wearing, sword/shield toteing mage running around nuking and tanking in any mmo.  Why else have any other class choices if you could?

I think I should elaborate on my opening post. I may have not conveyed my interests clearly.

I would prefer a melee DPS class with secondary magic skills (not healing like Paladins) that isn't restricted to light/cloth armor. Essentially an evil Paladin. A shield in my opinion would not be required nor would access the heaviest armor available (mainly I hate the look of light armor).
