Everyone knows there is alot of hate on this site for conan. I have come up with a theory to why they did not deliver what they have promised and not finish the game as you all claim. It is to get rid of all the immature people who just complain and whine all day and do not actually play the game. Think about this for a second before judging. If you read all the posts you see people complaining called funcom failcom and say things like this game should die and other kinds of a response a 12 year old will give you. Now how many of you actually play the game? probably most of you dont i assume. Now how many people on here actually do play the game? The ones that arnt all big babies about this im guessing. You see what they did? They want mature people playing so they did all this on purpose. Now we all know some people are still gonna play it and act like a 12 year old but hey funcom is making money off of it so they could probably put up with it. It was their secret plan all along.

what's really disturbing is part of me thinks you are not being sarcastic
If that's true then they screwed up, because I have been a Funcom customer since 2001-2002 or so and I have recently canceled my Age of Conan account and my two Anarchy Online accounts. I was served infractions on their forum by Cabe and Lufkins for discussing what I felt were serious concerns with the game and how they manage their community, topics which are apparently not to be discussed with fellow subscribers. I never really flamed or trolled them either.
The secret plan is this. . .
FunCom creates AoC at the start of a five year development period (I think thats what it was). They work on AoC sparingly and divert most of the attention to "The Secret World". Running out of money FunCom decides that they need to offload one of their games to make some cash for the other (this would be AoC). Now that FunCom has money from those that bought AoC they can continue developing The Secret World.
See we can all pull things out of our rears, its just who can make the more believable scenario.

You wouldn't understand
I think I must fall under the big baby label.
Tho I never posted on their forums.. I just hit cancel and let it go.
Or I cried myself out on SWG... that could be it.
Altho lol to be honest general chat was so bad at times I was hoping a lot of people would quit.. then the patches came so I figured it was easier to quit myself.
/big baby signing off
That OR:
The plan was to take all the annoying people away so WAR wont have a bunch of Dummies playing it?
Sounds like somthing Europeans would do in any case
Here it is.
The funcom scam
Have you ever seen the Mel Brooks movie The Producers? I think Funcom used their formula for AOC.
Leo explains. "The IRS isn't interested in the show that flopped." "You could've raised a million dollars, put on your $100,000 flop, and kept the rest!" Max proposes the ultimate scheme:
Step 1: We find the worst play ever written. Step 2: We hire the worst director in town. Step 3: We raise two million dollars...One for me, one for you. There's a lot of little old ladies out there! Step 4: We hire the worst actors in New York and open on Broadway and before you can say Step 5, we close on Broadway, take our two million, and go to Rio.
OP, this isn't the X-files, it's good old-fashioned nerdy MMO gaming business.
Funcom just overlooked key areas that could have made AOC a success.
Considering the huge potential of the game pre-launch, they screwed up big time in what is quite possibly the most spectacularly mismanaged MMO ever released
Shareholders would be well advised to push for a new management team who could clean out the entire place and bring in a new team that could actually turn around this Titanic of a company
Failcom is the right word: GG, EE and Co. should never be allowed near a game that has any potential to succeed, ever again.
Sadly this was a game i was interested in trying at one point after initial bugs were worked out.
But since then, I've decided i will not be trying this game. I believe I am not the only person to have reach a conclusion like this based on the sheer amount of horror stories associated with this game.
Biggest one that stands out to me that ruins a game before playing, Exploitation.
If this was their secret agenda (plan), then congratulations to them. I think they maybe succeeding.
"The public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius."
-Oscar Wilde
The secret plan is to test the magnitude of incompetence a company has to reach in order to achieve zero tolerance from its customers.
I think the OP is actually being serious... Yikes...
Tecmo Bowl.
I think the OP might actually be right. Just look at AO, for example. They released a piece of crap, made some changes to make it worse than it already was, and then waited for everyone to jump ship before trying to fix it. This may actually be their plan of action.
Funcom may have lost some players who act immaturely and have the loudest voices on forums but they are also retaining a terrible and immature community.
I played up until the end of the second month, when numbers were starting to significantly drop off and guilds disapear, and I can tell you now that I came across the most dispicable, hatemongering social misfits I've ever seen in my life.
This was also the first online game where I had to mute players because of personal threats and downright atrocious manners.
I got sucked in on this one. There is no way the op is for real. Right?
I can't even begin to comprehend the kind of person that would believe that rubbish.
I'm...speechless.........

Well if they close it down they do get to keep a huge chunk of change in I'm not mistaken
To the OP, this is a pretty weeksauce attempt at trolling me thinks. Im not sure you could generate this much hate for a game if people havent forked over their own hard earnt money and experienced it first hand.
There are valid and point blank reasons why there is so much frustration which tends to lead to hate towards Funcom here and in their own boards.
I guess it all boils down to if you want to pay good money for broken games continue to do so. If you dont like it quit and move on.
The only problem here is the fact that the drama this gaming company has created is more entertaining than the game itself in my opinion.
I cant wait to see the bloodcurdling screams from their own forums each patch day aftermath, its hilarious!
But in the same note i do feel sorry for the hangers on, the game did have a lot of potential such a sad shame so many people have left the game with such resentment. Its almost in many cases as being taken personally.
I really beleive most if not all the hatred stems from the outright lies and sheer pompass nature of the senior developers and Gaute himself. They really give me the impression that they could care less, theyve made their quota and who cares.
Their marketing team delivers much better than their product, these forums along with other independents, are the only place you may hear any truth about what is really going on out there.
Thankyou MMORPG.com!
I don't foresee it being shut down, there are games with much lower populations out there still around. Could it be bought out? That's certainly a possibility. Regardless, Funcom's reputation was sketchy to begin with and now it has been severely damaged... no chunk of change can repair that.
Oh and yeah, their marketing team is briliant. I'm sure its only a matter of time before they implement billboards with Toyota ads in the game ala Anarchy Online. LOL
Read hobo9766's link. It's hilarious. Post after post trashing the original blog detailing the problems with Funcom, well prior to the game's release. Any defense of them at this point has no credibility. I didn't make the connection before, but did anyone play Dreamfall? Not a terrible game, actually very interesting in its own way, but I had a minor problem with getting it to run when I first got it, and contacted their email support, and was treated worse than I have ever been treated by a company, with the exception of Sprint (who acticely defrauded me of 250-ish dollars, and then threatened me when I called them on it).
Hard to understand how they think they can do this BEFORE becoming truly successful. As far as the financial scam angle is concerned... I wouldn't be surprised - in my experience defensive, out-of-proportion anger goes hand in hand with business fraud. And with the right bookkeeping, and some investors with deep pockets and little expertise, an mmo would be a great vehicle for fraud. Mind you, I'm not saying that's what's going on here... but it wouldn't shock me.
Did Frank Zappa try this at a concert once?
The legend goes something like Frank told his band to play in different keys, different beats and wait for him to stop them. After he watched lots of people get up and leave he announced "now that all the ***holes are gone lets get down to it."
I have a hard time believing this is what FC is doing but then again some people still think any press is good press. The devs for SWG might differ.
