Sunscreen on crops?

ZindaihasZindaihas Member UncommonPosts: 3,662

It turns out various fruits and vegetables can also be damaged by the suns rays just as human skin can.   To combat this, some farmers have started treating their crops with sunscreen.  One farmer is even putting it on his nuts.   Believe it or not, it works.  But would you really want to eat food that has been treated with sunscreen?  The thought seems kind of gross to me, if not potentially unhealthy.

they use microcrystalline calcium carbonate as the UV barrier, you could eat it by the spoonfull.

i am concerned about the other additives like things to keep it suspended before spraying, but otherwise it seems like a great product. easily safer than most insecticides.

I put sunscreen on my nuts. It feels good and they don't get burnt.
