WOTLK - Info Encyclopedia (update 3rd august)

coffeecoffee Member Posts: 2,007

Well I've been active in bringing the Wrath news to us.. some one has too and and MMORPG wont .  So I'll use this thread to add new info to about wrath.

Could I please ask the flamers to keep it light, discussion is good but out-right flaming achieves nothing.  Thankyou.

30st July 2008

New Zone - Northrend

I'll start with the obvious, WOTLK brings us a new contient to explore, with 9 huge zones (each zone about 20% larger than in TBC) 1 zone is dedicated to world PvP.  I wont go into the story of Northrend. It will feature over a dozen 5man dungeons and a number of 10/25man raids.  The new land is accesable from 2 points 1 is via the new harbour being build in stormwind (see below)/

New Class - Death night

As we're all aware WoW gets it first new class in 4 years.  The death knight role is caster tank, it uses a new resource system called runes, so no mana, rage, focus etc.  It starts at lvl 55 in ebon hold which is designed to teach players how to use all the skills it comes with and ends in a big event which tells the story of how the DK's join the Allaince or horde against Arthus.

DK Intro video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgurfPf0qEs

DK quests: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv7854mxkBA

New Graphics - Dynamic shadows

WoW gets its first real gfx improvment since launch in the gise of true world/character dynamic shadows.  It has 6 levels of effect so players of all specs can choose what works best.  Below is a video showing off the new shadows.

Hi-res world shadows: http://www.ia-gaming.net/vids/shadows2.avi

New Mounts - 2 and 3 player mounts

We now get mounts that can carry more than 1 person, there are land/air mounts that will carry 2 people and other mounts that are assumed will be used as seige mounts, these can carry 3 people.  Its not clear as to wether passangers on the mounts can use attacks.

Achievements

We now have an achievement system, at present there are 664 achievements (should keep us busy) to unlock in 9 categories including PvP, Raid & Dungeons, Quests and so on.  The points earned from achievments are used to buy vanity items such as pets, mounts, dances/emotes .. not much info on this just yet.

List of all 664 achievements in beta: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?achievements

Customisation - Barbar shop

We can now change the appearance of our characters in game, works just like the creation screen, pick your hair style, colour and so on. we get more styles in wotlk too (unlockable through the achievment system).  This has only just gone live in beta so not much info as of yet.

Emotes

We have loads of emotes in WoW today but Wotlk adds 81 new emotes, many of which are animated.  Again emotes are unlocked via the achievment system.

Video of the /cower emote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPpSHehD4OU

PVP - Seige weapons

Seige vehicals are in, currently we know of 5 vechials all very different, from Anti-Air, to people carrier.  Some vechicals are for 1 person other can carry upto 3 people plus the driver.  All vechicals are 100% player controlled and operated.

PVP - Lake wintergrasp

Blizzard are to bring back world PvP with Wotlk, in Wotlk player get a massive PvP zone called lake wintergrasp.  According to a fixed schedule, one Faction will always be defending the main Keep from the opposing Faction. The zone's other buildings are neutral and up for grabs to either Faction, giving varying bonuses when captured.

Siege weaponry will play a large part in this zone, as all of its buildings and landmarks are destructible.

A variety of new daily quests will involve action in and around Wintergrasp, including new styles of aerial combat and mounted NPC escort quests that make use of the new multi-passenger mounts.

Info is light on the ground so far amd the zone is still Under construction.

PvP - Sand of Uldran ( Battle ground )

We get a new battleground in Wotlk with a new gameplay style.. info still light on the ground but we do know Siege weapons will be used throughout the battleground. Offensive weapons will be used by the attacking force to break through the defenses around each tier of the map, while the defending side will have their own weapons available. Each team progresses via controlling capture points on each tier. Some capture points allow access to different types of siege weaponry.

New Profession - Inscription

As usual we get another profession, its call inscription and can be used to allow enchanters to sell their spells on the auction house.  An inscriptor can make parchments that enchanters buy and use to inscribe a spell on such as "+20 agi on 1hander" this can then be sold on the auction house.

But it also has 1 other major addition, inscribers can sell spells to add effects to our attacks, called glyps

Each player can add up to 6 Glyphs to their interface: 2 Greater Glyphs, 2 Lesser Glyphs, and 2 Minor Glyphs.

  • Greater Glyphs provide major upgrades to spells. Examples that have been given are the addition of stuns or DoTs to spells, increased damage, or knockbacks.
  • Lesser Glyphs provide upgrades to spells similar to Greater Glyphs, but are not as powerful.
  • Minor Glyphs provide small upgrades, or cosmetic improvements. Examples that have been given are the removal of reagent requirements from spells, lowering spell costs, or changing spell graphics

Buffs - Professions buff

Professions can now give buffs, for example miners get a stam buff based on their level and skinners get a crit buff.  for example lvl 5 = +3 stamina , lvl 50 = +20 stamina.

UI - Tokens

We get a new Tokens UI, this is used to store the various tokens we collect, such as marks of honor, Heroic badges, event tokens and so on.. again we dont have to use bag space or to keep them at the bank.

Talents

With the extra 10 levels players all get new talents and reworked talent trees, some of the most notible talents are the warriors titan grip, this allows a warrior to duel weild 2 2hander weapons, Hunter pets get their own pet tree split into Tank,DPS,Survial and Warlocks get a melee demon form.

Offical Wotlk talent calculators: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents2.html

Calender

Blizzard have now added a full featured calander into WoW (no need for a mod anymore) not much info on this but its expected to be a guild calander as well as personal calender.

Pet/Mount storage

At last you dont need to carry pet/mounts in your backpack.  All vanity pets and mount are now spells so you can carry all your mounts and pets with you without taking up a bag slot.  Its all accessed via a new UI.

 PvE - Raids and dunegons

Blizzard are continuing with the 5man Heroic modes but have made 1 big change to raiding, all raids are now 25man or 10man, the 10man raid will feature lesser loot than the 25man raid and blizzard have hibted on some different bosses. Its not clear if a 10man raid will fight Arthus.  Many achievments will be unlocked in dungeons/raids such as completing a 5man heroic with 4 players or a 10man with 8 players.

WoWradio go to Nexus(normal 5man):  http://files.filefront.com/WoW+Radio+Runs+The+Nexus/;11237800;/fileinfo.html

City - Dalaran city

Dalaran is the main city in Wotlk, It was once located in Azeroth but has uprooted and flown to northrend to face the threat of Arthus and dragons.  Its stull under contruction.  But is floating city and has left a huge crator in azeroth.

31st July 2008

Airships over Icecrown

There is a horde and allaince airship/base over Icecrown glacier.  Its not clear what these are used for but we can guess it has somthing to do with the event to unlock the endgame raid dungeon.  Blizzard confirmed over a year ago that Arthus wont be in the game at launch as a raid boss but will patched in sometme later along with a world event that all players participate in.  How the world event will playout is 100% speculation at this point but it likly will invloive taking down the 4 walls around icecrown before the raid dungeon is unlocked.  Some pics.. as you can see still under contruction with missing textures.

1st August 2008

Customisation - Gylphs

Some more info on the type of glyphs we can expect have been released for druids, the glyphs/Inscription system is a new way for players to augment/buff their abilities, a small sample below (currently around 30 for druid).

Glyph of Rejuvenation  - While your rejuvenation targets are below 50% health, you will heal them for an additional 50% health.

Glyph of Shred - Increases the damage dealt by Shred to stunned and incapacitated targets by 20%.

Glyph of Thorns - Empowers a Minor Glyph to reduce the mana cost of your Thorns spells by %s1%.

Glyph of Rebirth  - Increases the amount of health on a character brought back to life via Rebirth by 100%.

Gun'Drak - Instance

Gun'Drak will be an instance which contains the final boss for the Ice Trolls. It is a 5-man instance meant for mid-level players.

Barber shop

Some more info on the barber shop has been release with some of the new hair styles/horns/scares/tattoos etc players can earn though the achievement system.

3rd August 2008

UI - Threat meter

Blizzard has decided to incorporate a Threat meter into the lastest Wrath beta build, as raiders know a threat meter is a must and we have relied on some mods to do that, Blizzard has listened to its raiders and are given them a basic threat meter and improved scripting support to mods makers.

Hunters - Pets

Blizzard have given hunters 2 addition stable slots (at a price) and some more info about the 51pt BM talent, Exotic pets are confirmed to be about x2 the size of normal pets, not decided wether they will do more dmg but will have unique skills. The first exotic pet family confirmed are the devilsaurs.

Thanks for the compile of info mate! Some stuff there I didn't know about.

That list of achievements, some of the PvP ones are giving me a little bit of hope. The idea of killing a city leader is a great one, as long as it provides a decent enough reward as to give players incentive to do it.

Update 31st July 2008 - added "airships over icecrown" (see first post)

I vote for sticky - would be shame if this post set sail to the message history bin

Nice post, thanks for all the info.

Just to nitpick though, his name is Arthas

Great post. Needs to be made a sticky!

Typo correction: Death knight and not night

  • f1sebf1seb Member UncommonPosts: 194

    Yeah, more typos include:

    Customisation Barbar shop.

It's supposed to be Customization Barber shop.

Thanks for the info Coffee.  One thing I'd like to know is what is required to make a Glyph?  Does it require enchanting materials, gems or something else?  Seems to me that there's a synergy between Enchanting and Inscriptions, so it would make sense for Glyphs to be created from enchanting materials.

some info here - more than I posted

    wotlkwiki.info/index.php/Inscription

Inscription relies primarily on Herbalism as its gathering Profession counterpart.

In order to produce Inks, a player uses the Inscription ability Milling, which consumes 5 herbs and creates various Inks depending on which sort of herbs were Milled. (Similar to a Jewelcrafter's Prospecting ability.) Herbs now show the Inscription skill level needed to mill that particular herb (Example: Constrictor Grass).

Any chance that you Americans are the only English speaking nation in the world to spell it like that? The British Commonwealth, and all other english speaking peoples on Earth, are correct.

    You sir, are not.

The OP could be from one of the areas listed you know..

LOL... yeah im from the UK so we use "english" not "american english" which in the case of the above we use "s" not "z".

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

These typos are minor, so it's no big deal:

customisation can be written both ways

barbAr should be changed to barbEr

night should be changed to Knight

    other than that, great post.

Why are we talking about spelling? It never mattered in the first place, except to trolls. The only reason I picked it up was to point out our American friends ignorance.

On topic: I'm interested as to see how deep the new barber shop will be. If it simply recycles the current options I will be very disappointed.. however, if we get a load of new customisation options..

ya it sems two bi hard 4 peps to c waht peps r rally sejing and if thay are complaning about spälling thay are gust plain staupid.

The thing is if all you can complain about is the spelling, then people shouldn´t write anythinng at all because they look even more stupid than they already are. And one of the reason why they do it on this post is the fact that they dont wanna see anything that has to do with WoW mmorpg.com is the place where the crap game Vanguard is King and all the post surrounding it is there to make you start playing it.

    To patrikd23:

I don't know if you realise that non native English speaking people are reading these forums (me being one of them). While your writing style may seem cool to you, it's making our communication (that's the primary function of a forum after all) harder than it can be.

These type errors are of course minor, just more noticeable being headings of the original post. The post was without a doubt a good one.

Ah, and before I forget about it, waving the forum troll flag is pointless if you don't have a clue about what constitutes a forum troll in the first place.

Looks like they are going to keep the hair styles race specific judging from those model pics. Looks interesting. Thanks for the update Coffee!

  • FlodgyFlodgy Member Posts: 108

I'm curious as to whether Blizzard will alter the lore to unleash all out conflict between the Horde and Alliance... meantingful PvP is something that has always lacked in the game, and if the devs intend to compete with upcoming games it is something that has to arrive sooner rather than later.

With those PvP talents a lot of them encourage world PvP quite a fair bit. Sounds pretty good to me.

I have no respect for European imperialism.  Europe is just a continent full of small men who steadfastly refuse to unite and are embittered toward a certain other country that was big enough put aside its differences and is much more powerful and prosperous today because of it.

WoW was developed in the aforementioned United States of America and therefore it is an American product and anyone writing articles about said game should use correct American English and Spelling.

I am sorry, but you obviously have no idea what the European Community is.. America is the most inward looking countries of the western world.  They only look outward to start fights over oil or to sell weapons.

But anyway thats way off topic.
