Hey that does look good! Much better than the drabness that is CoX.

6 action keys  if you include the mouse buttons

Every character has a fast low damage attack activated with the left mouse button and a slower, higher damage attack with the right mouse button. Plus they have the aforementioned four slots for special attacks activated with the 1-4 number keys.

And yeah I quit pre-Invention my guild had totally quit so I left with them.

Guild Wars is hugely successful, there's nothing to be surprised about if it's performing better than CoH. It's got a much wider base of appeal to begin with.

And the quarterly reports show that CoH is remarkably stable in it's playerbase for it's age compared with most MMOs. It's still in the top 5 of North American MMO subscription numbers.

We would need more info on the power sets to judge wether or not 4 action keys is too little or not. If you have some basic commands like pick up/throw, attack, jump, etc and a good amount of passive abilities that would be fine. 4 action keys could stream line the gameplay so it plays like an actual action game.
CoH/CoV was one of my favorite MMOs but I cant play it anymore. There have been a lot of changes but too little too late. The comment about Cryptic focusing on endgame lately is hilarious. The only thing more pathetic than CoHs endgame is CoHs PvP.

Cryptic no longer developers the game. NCsoft has been developing it for the past year and a half. Shows how little you know.

And NCsoft has put a lot more emphasis on end game content and is currently pushing through huge changes to SG based PvP with base improvements.

Honestly I think DCU looks like crap based on the videos, with the jerky animations, lame powers, and arcade level of gameplay - But it's only an E3 preview so I have to cut them some slack, but even then I don't see any reason to suspect they'll have a wealth of content and features that will be able to give CoX a run for it's money right out of the box.

I also looked at some videos of Champsions online, and at this point in it's development it actually looks worse than CoX in terms of graphics. While the polycount may be higher, the animations and effects aren't nearly as good, but again it's too early to make definitive judgements.

Still, I don't see anything about either of these games that has me worried CoX is going to die after their release. If anything it might bolster people's appreciation for all that CoX has to offer at this stage in it's lifespan.

It's worth noting that rather than abandoning the game to the whims of the market competition, NCsoft has actually been ramping up development of CoX to make it more competitive by the time DCU and Champions Online are released. CoX still looks pretty good considering it's age (especially on villainside), and it's going to have a wealth of content and features that the other two won't be able to match at release.

Cryptic frankly didn't do a very good job initially with CoH, and it was a slow road over the next year or two to bring CoX up to the standard where I wanted to play it... I don't see that they're improving much in the videos of Champions Online, which is probably why Marvel bailed on them.

In truth, the best development period for CoX has been in the last year and half, first with Positron taking over as lead dev, and then with NCsoft taking over development from Cryptic - They've got more experience, and more resources.

Okay Trenchgun we get the idea. You're a CoX fan. I think that must be skewing your judgement. It's early days yet, but I suspect DCU will have far more mass appeal and outsell CoX.
