Melee or magic. Combat or non-combat. Charity-giver or scammer. These and more are ways you can play the game. What's your style?

I prefer non-combat skills like cooking and crafting. If I have to fight, I prefer melee, but I'd range if I had to.

@all POES: I don't want to hear anything like "I focus on melee but the combat is soooo predictable and boring", or any other random complaint. That's NOT what I'm asking! The topic is what do you focus on ingame (skills, combat, etc.), not "boy, all these skills sure suck". I could continue ranting, but I'll stop here.

I lost all my dignity a long time ago.

Since I had done every skill in the game as much as I could I did do a variety of things. I had done combat and noncombat related skills. Of course while I was skilling I often caught up with friends, because you have to do something to kill time while skilling. But what I actually enjoyed most in the game was either helping friends or even random players or pking. I loved randomly walking up to some noob in  lumby killing cows and giving him a mil and have them freak out.  When I wasn't helping friends I was usually in the wildreness. My favorite thing to do was take my litlest nooblet out and unleash barrage and dboltz into a luring clan, then take thier poorly drawn pixel junk and drop in in edge for people to run around and pick up.  I also did melee on my high lvl noob but usually only in clan wars and not that bs junk they call clan wars now wildy clan wars were tons better. The only good thing about the combat system in this game is the ability to switch in combat. You can range in mage gear melee in range gear or wear bits and pieces of anything and switch styles in the same battle. I maged with a bow, or a whip. I either barraged and whipped or barraged and  ranged. Either way it was the ability to do  all or any of the skills at any time in combat that made it fun. Too bad there is no place where you can solo pk an entire clan and it be profitable anymore. I miss that.

Well Tuss, I have to say I normally focused on getting my skills up( I never really was a high level). When I was in combat I would normally use melee. I never really liked ranging, but once in a while I would work on my mage. Luckly they haven't done anything to the combat system. I am pretty sure that if more online games used this kind of combat, not one where you had to chose a race and you could only do certain skills, people would like that. There would be more surprise in everything.

I did everything, but I was mostly melee when fighting.

    ?

  • Matt269Matt269 Member Posts: 124

Well I mostly did just about everything. I had all around well-balanced combat levels. So I typically used melee, magic, and range when I could. I also had decent non-combat stats. But I have to say that my favorite part about runescape was dueling and castle wars. I would just play those minigames with my friends and have lot's of fun.

While in combat I typically used ice bursts along with a crystal bow for long range dueling and pking. For close range I would switch between whip and dds. Occasionally I also used dragon scimitar if my opponent was using prayer.

well,my favourite non-combat skills are woodcutting, fletching, firemaking, cooking and fishing when i would fight i would use meele, but i do get mage up to teleport to places i needed to go,way better than running especially since the run energy limit,i use range sometimes just to raise my combat level since it takes long for 100k+ exp

    hmmmm

Yes this is who defends runescape.   A 13 yr old scammer is their biggest fan.  Not only did I barrage on my maxed character I barraged on my lvl 68 noob =), and I never scammed anyone in the game because that is what little kiddies do.  That is why little kids make for a poor community.

Lol he's prolly not 13, more like 70..

    Any way back on topic:

I'm either tanker or a zerker pure on all of my accounts. Scamming is for little children that cannot be bothered doing some fun mini-games for money, and instead sit in Lumbridge saying free gem cutting..

Ok bow down to me because I have 20 Billion Christmas crackers..

God stupid 6 year old liars..

I used to be a maniac on this game. I trained alot of my skills to the level 99 just to get the good old skillcape. But I wasn't that interested in money making, instead I was more into the fighting part. I was also a leader of several clans which you probably don't know. The last of the clans I administered was the best one so far. I just abandoned them, and sold my account to Ebay. Selling my account was HARD. I coudn't take just any good  offer. I had to find out if the person was a hardcore gamer. So I finally found someone. Im not going to mentioned who but, at least he's having fun.

I had tried everything in runescape, but I was mostly a pker and a staker. I would stake when I needed money for pking and would either stake or skill(mostly stake) when I was bored of pking(this only happened when their wasn’t that many people on to pk), but overall I only played runescape for pking in the wildy and high risk staking since those were the only things that were actually fun to me, theirs nothing like staking a few 100 mills and a p hat and hunting noobs in the wildy.

The wilderness is a legacy of the ages. It was what made runescape unique to an extent that you never got bored of it. I remember the first time I entered the wilderness. I was only level 26, the year was dec 2002, I got my full iron and iron 2h from a woman who was giving them for free at the armour shop in varrock. If still remember her name it was lianne verit. Anyway, I went into the wildy and I got the hang of it.

The wildy was so good that you could spend all day just going around the wildy. I always used to camp near fat tony's place. Then sometimes I see big groups of people passing by  having those real clan wars. I enjoyed watching these things as well as taking advantage of some stuff. Anyway, throught the years I leared how to merchant and I also learned to be honest and nice to people. I made alot of friends and enemies in that wilderness. Some people were  impressed with me, so I made friends with them and we got to know each other. Sometimes, I would escort people around the wilderness to make them happy. Anyways when runescape 2 beta came out in 2004, I was really impressed. For me, it was a whole new story. Alot of my first friends abandoned runescape during this time period because they needed to go to university and enter the life of studying. But I stayed..until last april. That's when I quit. I got into an affair with a girl who had been with me for such a long time. I knew her in real life, but we met on runescape. After all those years together, she ended up with my good friend on runescape. But I'm happy for her, because If I didn't recruit her into my clan, she would have never known my good friend, and they would have never been together. They're dating by the way. Anyway, that was the end of my story.

Hmm, my favorite skill was Magic, but I could not excel in it because I could never make enough cash to train it and still be able to afford the items I wanted. Oh well. In just about any other RPG I am always a mage. I prefer to be like a sniper, taking out my enemies from a distance before they see what's hittin' em. In FPS, I always go for the headshot, despite the fact a sniper rifle is often a one-hit kill anywhere on the body in many of these games. In one game I play, 19100 out of 19700 of my kills are headshots. I tried to play my friend's Socom game (Or something like that) but I ended up killing everyone... The enemy team and my own (oops) so he won't let me play anymore.

What I’m saying is those skills have about as much fun in them as watching paint dry. You don’t even do anything in those skills, you just click and watch your avatar do the same three things over and over again, theirs hardly any variety in the way you can train those skills and you don’t even need to think to train them; what exactly do you find fun in that?

Different people find different things fun. Some people like playing sports, others don't. The same can go with runescape skills. If a player has fun doing a skill and is willing to do the skill, it is not your place to try to make them see it isn't fun. If you don't have fun doing the same things, go do something else.

what if you did everything else already and the only things you found fun in the game they removed?

  • TussTuss Member Posts: 103

That means you don't have fun in the game anymore and should play something else.

No it means the game isn’t fun anymore and should be sold to a company that can actually make it fun.

  • BlisseyBlissey Member Posts: 515

Yeah the game is already a legacy. It's glory has past, and we did our parts in the legacy of this game. We are now veterans.

This is true. I respect and agree  your view, but tell us if you will, what do you do most of the time on runescape?

That is exactly what I have done. The thing is the game could be great, If the people who run it weren't Idiots.
