Will Ferrel is without a doubt one of the most overhyped type-casted actors out there. His early stuff was amazing funny and was original... This is however no longer the truth. He plays the same goddamn goofy guy over and over and over and over. He simply as far as i can tell has no acting ability and instead just uses the same material continuosly. Not unlike Adam Sandler, although Adam was considerably better at being the same. Will Ferrel just can cut it anymore, every movie he makes is increasingly cheesy and ill-concieved. There is just no substance to it. Now i am admittedly not an expert on movies or acting but i believe i can say that Will is just not up to snuff anymore.

it is what it is.
Taken at face value the guy is funny .Remember"frank the tank"?Best character in a frat movie since Belushi in animal house.
Id like to see him team up with Judd Apatow.
For good stupid comedy he is funny no oscar here but i dont think he is looking for 1.
What is your physical limit?
I think that most of America is sick of Will Ferrel, much like you are...his last movie completely tanked and I would wager that this new one is going to go down in flames as well.
As was said earlier, his early stuff was brilliant, but it has run its course...he was great on Saturday night live when he played different and varying characters, but that's not really the case anymore, and I just sorta feel bad for the guy for some reason (yeah, 30 mil a movie and i feel bad for him)

I totally agree with the comment that hank the tank was a great character but again hank had his day and his ghost haunts will ferrel and pervades every role. Belushi was better tho by far, nobody can top him (see the lunch room scene in Animal House)
I saw Will Ferrel in an interview once with I Am Ninja, it was than that I realised that he is an RL douche, you shoulda seen how unfunny he was without any material, he constantly tried to hijack the interview by being a jackass, good thing was I Am Ninja came out on top and shut him down. The interview was about that Blades of Glory movie and the guy from Napoleon Dynamite was there.
I agree with the above sentiments, Will Ferrel stopped bing funny after Anchorman, he acts the exact same way over and over again and it's simply no longer amusing.

I must admit i wrote this post originally assuming a large back lash by people who were outraged that i would ever say that about Mr. Ferrel. The result however has been totally awesome. Not a ton of responses yet but i will try to keep this post going for as long as i can. Btw i totally agree, i think i saw the same interveiw and it was indeed a sad thing to see.
There is yet hope for the taste of the modern world.
Anyone here saw Stranger than Fiction ? Guess not :P
I did in fact watch that movie. To my great displeasure it was an utter flop. Here i was thinking that wow will ferrel is doing something new and he is going to be a different character that we all can appreciate. This was however only slightly the case. He was different but there was still this overtone like despite what the movie was attempting to make him act out he was still trying to fight it at every turn. Again he just cant act... He is what he is

"Stranger Than Fiction" was an incredible movie, and a stunning performance by Will Ferrel. I'm not sure he could pull it off again, but I totally bought his performance in that role (and seeing Will Ferrel without thinking 'cowbell' is incredibly hard for me).
I agree the comedy template he seems to follow (much like Adam Sandler) is wasted film.
Id like to see Will Ferrell try to do some more dramatic roles.
Robin Williams is a truly funny guy but a fantastic dramatic actor.
Go and rent "What dreams may come" or "Bicentennial man" and you will see what i mean.
What is your physical limit?
I am seeing Step Brothers more for John C. Riley. I have loved everything he has done so hopefully Ferrel holds up his end of the movie.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Check out Bill Murray's "The Razors Edge" if you want to see how bad it can be when a comic actor tries his hand at drama. "Bicentennial Man" was good but Williams had proved before that movie that he could do serious drama. I honestly don't think Ferrel has it in him. He can barely do comedy. In a year or two Ferrel will end up like Jim Carey...a has-been due to over-exposure and too many flops.
Bill Murray hasn't had a leading role in ages. He has been stuck doing cameo's as far as I can tell. Although he may have a major part in City of Ember.
While I wouldn't say that Will Ferrel sucks, I would have to agree that his acting and brand of comedy is getting repetitive. Much like Adam Sandler, as mentioned above. I would also add Mike Meyers into this list. They just seem to have the same routine even though they are supposed to be portraying different characters.
Bill Murray is awesome compared to Will Ferrel. BTW- Razor's Edge was a good movie, as was one of my all time favorites Lost in Translation(this one made me cry). Groundhog day was awesome, too.
Will Ferrel was never funny. Only people that are missing chromosomes and have really bad head injuries ever thought so.

He's funny AND dramatic, plus it has the always brilliant Edward Norton.

Maybe. But Will Ferrel never being funny has some truth to it.

I really don't think that there is any truth to that at all
The SNL days? Cowbell? Cheerleaders? The Fashion snobs? Come on, Will Ferrel did have his days

I thought he did a few good skits on SNL and that was about it........I cant remember ever liking any of his movies.......
No not a single college ty[e movie has EVER come close to Animal House. That movie is a classic. I doubt any movie Ferrel has made could be counted as a classic.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Old School is already considered a classic in many circles...Of course, it did take a great deal from Animal House, as did all of the other college aged sex comedies...but it was still a clever movie.

There is nothing of Will Ferrel that I have seen that I have found to be funny. Nothing.
