Can I be Different?

Alright this probably sounds kinda odd perhaps a little fruity, but i was just wondering is there a fairly decent amount of depth to character development in this game? 'Cuz i am just kinda tired of being the same as everybody else in MMO's like umm idk WoW for instance. Running around looking at all the high level toons i just got tired of seeing all the other Warlocks with the same gear and all the other people with all the same crap that i had worked so hard and grinded (ouch  brutaly coined verb there...) so long for. Anyways just looking for some input here. Is this another sad game where i have to be the same as everyone else to be a decent gamer? Or have i finally found something that i can be interested in and good at?

Thanks so much for whatever help you can contribute.

There is alot of different gear to get. I am shure that there is one set that is the best of them all. I don't really know about that. What I do know is that there is gear around that is good and nice and so that is not that apperant to get and not so obvious that they are around.

I mean not everyone actually knows about it.

The armor and weapons is not as spaced out as they are in WoW. So people looks abit from the same mill and they don't. Don't know how to describe it but armor looks more polished and well made when it is a better one.

Gear can last from level 20 up until 35,40. And there is also alot effort behind a person that can make you a really nice sword. And from my experience a weapon with the double DPS on it really doesn't make it feel like a 100% difference.

I don't think Vanguard is so much in the variety in armor and weapons, the biggest difference is in the extra things that you can do besides questing/adventuring. A quest is a quest is a quest. So for character development there is alot of other things to do besides raid for gear.

Thanks i guess my first post was a little bit to constraining in what i meant by being different i just get tired of trying to accomplish the same things as everybody else and fighting for every second of it. I simply had problems with the games being so unoriginal in their options and just following the masses. This post was really helpful. Thanks for reading into what i asked and giving a highly appropriate response.

another thing that might be helpful is to remember that vg has a lot of classes and races.  You will find some diversity in that different classes have different special armors that don't look the same.

There is no talent/traits/AA system in Vanguard yet.  So everyone that is your class will get the same skills you get.  There are different paths you can take for some characters like Bear Shaman, or Drunken Monk, Harmonious Monk and such.   Gear is the main difference.

You also get to distribute your stat points. They increase every level from level 10. This allows a few different builds for the classes. But yes, I would really like a talent/AA system to be introduced.

I hate the talent tree in WoW now. It makes you different, but also you need completely different gear for each talent tree and you can't play certain parts of the game well with one talent. There's really only ONE talent tree for what you are doing. One is for raiding, one is for solo/level, and one is for PvP. How do people like that? You can't make a mix of three trees and be good. You can barely make a nice mix of 2 and be good, so what's the point? The OP wants to be different, not have to pick a certain way to be good.

Sadly OP, Vanguard is more or less the same way. You can allocate your points different every 20% a level, but really theres only 1 way to do it. And gear, theres different gear to be good but there's more or less a set that helps a lot more than others. But a lot of it comes from very hard working crafters.

Hmm, to be more clear on what I think is needed. Perhaps not a talent tree system, but more along the lines of the AA-xp in EQ1, that was a great system that did not change your class fundamentally but instead let you personalize your class and become unique!

It seems the OP is trying to say that we all end up in the same gear.  We all end up looking just like the next guy.  How can everyone have Poppa Smurf's Septre of Ultimate Smurfiness when there is and was only one.  Then we run of to get the Fabled Tome of the Gummi's.  Then one day we're standing on the corner and you feel as if you are standing in a room of funhouse mirrors.

Basically I would like to be able to recognize people by sight instead of having to have names floating above their heads.

It will take a lot to accomplish though I know.  A living world for one.  A world in that you kill the boss of this dungeon and that guy is dead.  He's never coming back and he'll never drop his uber Pointy Hat of Turds.  Only one person will have said item and only one group will have the rights to having killed him.  Then the world moves on and a new group of baddies or what have you take over that dungeon.

Well stated sinsa... I definentally agree with what you have to say and you basically hit on what i wanted to ask here. Now i realize that nobody having the same crap is nigh unto impossible so im over it, but i just want to see enough stuff (balanced stuff) to the point where i might actually have to look for what i want and not just go into the nearest major town and scream does anybody have Jimbos Jangles of Jazzersizing, and instead i would prefer to have to go questing or find a master craftsmen of some sort. Which would be a very difficult rank to attain. All i am saying is make lots of stuff, and for gods sake make it balanced please.

You can explore vanguard, searching areas for what you need.  It isn't just "Go to x and beat up y to get z" type of thing.  There are several possible ways to get equipment, including asking a crarfter to make it for you, hunting for it yourself, becoming a crafter, etc.

So yeah, you can play different ...nothing is stopping you in vanguard.

A quick question. Do you know the guy that bougth the Levi Strauss pants?

The way you recognize people is not only what they look like it is (amongst others) how they look when wearing it, miving, body language and so on. You can place two you think look the same besides each other and there will be others that don't think they look the same.

I mean there is alot into recognizing different people than about have different kind of loot. Recognizing people without nameplates have very little to do with that NPC can die only once.

How many do I know and recognise by name, without hesitation, not that many. Then there is people that I recognise and can name. Then I have people I have seen before. Alot of times I don't even recognize friends until they are within speaking range.

So far my experience in VG is that this is what you'll get in VG.  Most characters of the same class will be wearing the same armor, or at least people will be trying to get it if they know about it.

I finished the URT armor and weapon quest line (after much blood shed) only to discover a day or two later about HL armor.  Thankfully, the people on my server have been just fantastic in their willingness to give assistance, so gathering the armor hasn't been a big chore.

You could always do diplomacy.  It'll suck you in in spite of how incredibly frustrating it can be at times.  There are multiple groups (soldiers, nobles, crafters, domestic, maybe others?) and certain clothing needs to be worn to gain presence with a certain group.  This results in changing cloths frequently, as well as hitting the inevitable wall when you can't afford the cloths you need to finish a given job.

Aside from that, there are four areas of activities that your character can do, and each has its own set of clothing:  Adventuring, Crafting, Harvesting, and Diplomacy.  Characters focusing on a certain area will generally look the same, but you can change between them at the click of a button.

I prefer my character's diplo appearance over adventuring.
