Not sure if this was mentioned on this forum or not the site had a news article announcing the commencement of open beta a while back.
You absolutely must check this out if you played Pirates! or Pirates! Gold.
Its a ton of fun and free in open beta in the moment.
Its a bit tough getting started but its not too bad with all the nice guys who are playing too.
Try Joining the English.

Yes it has been mentioned. And after a week of trying to connect to the uber full servers (read: worse than Lineage 2) I unininstalled and have no regrets.

I dont know...Ive seen MUDs with better graphics. Sure hope the gameplay and character emmersion makes up for it lol

Well i have no problems connecting at all to the servers... maybe you should give it another try.
The graphics are definitly not all that in fact theyre remarkbly similiar to pirates! gold which is alright by me.
In fact so is the gameplay, thats what makes it so fun and addictive.
Check this game out im playing it right now i know its not the servers.

Aye, I was playing the game in closed beta, graphics aren't great granted, but the game is definitely fun. A prime example of how good gameplay can more than make up for shitty graphics.

It's one of the games in discussion to replace UXO or Warhammer Online in the forums section, we only have so much room over there, plus we're not keen on putting forums which aren't going to be used. But it could be there soon, it's in the Game List tho.

It's not a bad game, per se. It's just irriitating getting started. And then there's the mature conversations revolving around people running away after killing newbs, or accusations of cheating.

I checked it out, and I loved it. If you ever played "Pirate Hunter" (single player game), it's almost just like it.... note the almost in that statement. I think the nationality system adds a nice twist to it too, allowing for basically 4 huge teams. In my opinion, good game, not the greatest, but worth a shot.

I agree. Good game. Looks almost exactly like Pirates Gold did and gameplay is very similar. I just love Pirates Gold.
Still has some bugs but it's beta so that is to be exptected. Just a quick hint: Don't buy more cargo then your ship can carry and then set sails or you will drown over and over again until you delete your character

I downloaded this today and got right on the server, no wait time at all. The graphics aren't that bad, it has really nice animations for the ship trail, etc. Sound is decent. I like the eerie sounds given off when sailing. But I do agree about the converstations. I started a British player and in the vicinity channel, all I read was "Hey let's go kill some British NEWBS! and You F'ing cheater, there's not way you beat me unless you were cheating!"
This leads to my theory that newbs should be protected until they reach a certain level, not only for the players sake, but for the company's sake as well. I mean how many people are going to want to continue a game when they constantly get griefed? Lost revenues to the company, possibly a loss of a decent game for a player. Now I am totally for PvP, but their is a difference between being a jerk and attacking newbs who can't defend themselves and taking on someone your own level and your equal. It's like saying "dam, i'm a big adult, I think i'll go kick the shit out of some baby and take his candy."

Well im still playing and loving this game. Noobs are protected until they reach Navigation 6 but only from boarding parties cannons still cause damage and hopefully this will be changed as there are a number of griefing noob killers out there who slaughter the young ones with their huge fleets.
If yer playing this game or are gonna try it join english and get on nation chat im on pretty much every night and would love to help you out or team up to kill spanish or whoever else messes with us.
