To the new Vanguard players.

I wanted to ask a favour to the new VG players.

Could you please post your first impressions of the game. You do not have to go into great detail if you do not want to. I would like to know how you are faring.  Do you like the game, dislike the game.  What do you find fun etc.  Post even if you hate the game. No one will flame you if you are constructive, people may disagree with you, but most of us are mature enough to realise not every game is for everybody.

Another reason is I think it would help people who are undecided about playing VG.  There hear from us old hands what a great game it is, but if they see new blood posting there likes and dislikes you never know it may help them decide.

Enough with my rambling. See ya all in game.

Peace

Bought the game few hours ago, installing a bunch of patches now. First impression (not ingame) was abit trouble getting the subscription to work. Apparently the 30 day free doesnt apply directly. First I had to do a subscription with a credit card. To activate my 30 day free time. Luckily it only took 15min of surfing the support forums to figure out.

Now with all that aside. I'm looking very much forward to the game itself. Aaah, being a clueless noob once again. All the exploration that awaits :)

    Will do another reply later

Agree the game has a huge feel.  A horse has a lot more meaning than just to get you from point A to point B faster.  I mean you NEED one, which is why you can get one at level 10 (2 or 3 hours into the game).

One thing you really need to know is it's a lot different than other games.  It just has a different feel.  It's more about the journey to end game than just powerleveling to max level and raiding.  Vanguard has a LOT of nooks and crannys to explore, and since they don't hold you hand you WILL miss them if you don't slow down and maybe explore a bit!

If you like exploring and amazing dungeons, Vanguard is a lot of fun.  I won't say it's completely bug free, but it's definitely not game-breakingly bugged anymore.  If you have the PC to play AoC, you can play VG as well.

Always good to add some negatives to balance it out...hmm:

    - Sometimes when you cross server boundaries you lag a bit while it moves you over.  This is called chunking.  It's not completely smooth in my experience, but I chunk so little in the game anyway, who cares.

    - There are still a couple of graphical bugs that crop up quite often - One that happens enough to be obvious is where a mob will be dead, but not go through the death animation, so it will still look alive - At least it says 'Corpse of blah blah' still and is lootable - Only the death animation is missing.

I just got the game a couple of days ago and I like it so far. I am coming from Guild Wars which I've been playing for three years so it's great to be back in an open world. The parts of the world I've been in look pretty cool and I can't wait to explore more when I get more levels under my belt.

I'm only level 7 but so far there have been plenty of quests to keep me busy. I've probably only seen six or seven other people so far but I was pretty much expecting that from what I've read about the starting areas. There are times though when the chat has been busy so I know there are plenty of people out there once I leave the starter area.

The only negatives I have are some graphic glitches here and there but that probably stems from the fact that I need to upgrade my memory some more. Also sometimes the vendor items can be buggy. I was trying to buy some arrows one time and throwing stars kept showing up in my inventory. This has happened twice so I hope it won't be a huge problem later because I have money problems in these games as it is and I don't want to lose more by buying something I didn't want or need.

Also character customization is kind of weak. It's not game breaking for me but I was expecting more.

So thats my brief first impression. I'm glad I waited for a while before I tried the game out because it is for the most part stable and fun.

PS. Is it me or is it night time more than it is day time in the game? Just asking because that what it seems like to me.

Thank you for the responses.  Nice to see people enjoying themselves.

I agree the game still has a few graphical problems and bugs.  We just had a new game update go live.  Seems after every update we get alot of thing fixed and a few things broken in the mix.

    @Mageric

Grab a couple of harvesting skills and your money issues will be over. There should be a trainer near the starter area to train your skills and get your harvesting tools.  I would advice anyone new to the game to do it. A stack of low level harvest resources can sell up to a gold. Once you hit tier 2 harvesting some of the nice crafting dusts drop, some sell upto 8 gold+ (Dust of Striking if you are lucky).

Agreed... once out of the starter area you'll see many more people.  In fact, some of the middle-level zones are so over-crowded it can be difficult to find a living mob anywhere or a harvestable resource.  However, there are multiple questing paths and leveling areas.... this world is massive.

I think the vendor bug was fixed in yesterday's patch.

Customization was largely removed in GU4 and is hopefully put back in with the new models in GU6.  That is a massive project and has taken awhile, but I think when the new models are put in and character customization is re-introduced it will be well worth the wait.

Yes, some areas are darker or lighter throughout the day.  It's location based.  You'll find a place like Plains of Anguish darker longer and places like Razad lighter.  Not that I think of it, it could be related to latitude.  The farther away from the equator you are the more variability in daylight one sees.... hmmmm....

Okay so first impression now ingame after about 5 hours gameplay. I think it has a very cozy feeling to it. At least for me when I started as gnome (tried some chars to lvl 2 just to see how things roll). Decided  to stick with gnome. This is the first time I also choose an mmo without PvP. I just want a casual approach to it for once. No more skip sleep/school just to able to compete with others. Mobs wont gain better items/skills, mobs will be mobs :)

Gameplay is smooth, entertaining. I'm actually reading quests etc, just taking my time. I don't wanna rush. This game is too huge anyways. So after i reached lvl 5 i got to the first big city, which i btw liked very much. Decided to kick back and relax. Learn the crafting system. Spent a good 2 hours just crafting, reached lvl 5 in that too.

Have seen only one other player so far, altho chat is somewhat busy.

Noticed one graphical glitch, no biggie.

I also read that people with nVIDIA 8800gtx can bump into some random crashes. I got that one, didn't happen once for me. Hope it stays that way.

So far I enjoy Vanguard very much, don't have anything negative to say really. Altho I have minimal ingame experience.

I really loved the Goblin starting area in Kojan.  The game runs really smooth compared to it's early days, and I am enjoying myself.  I still lag at chunks... which always pisses me off, but that is not hindering my enjoyment too much :)

Yeah this game is massive, and after getting pissed off at Age of Conan (what a horrible MMORPG, er I can't even call that a MMORPG, more like a OG), Vanguard made me realize what I really enjoy about MMORPGs.  Immersion in awesome content.  There is so much of it.  So much writing just for the Diplomacy alone, let alone the quests.

If only this game would the attention it deserves from the Devs, by hiring alot more Devs, this game would have been the best game of all time IMHO.  As it stands now, they have been SLOWLY fixing all the probs.  It's been almost 1.5 years now, and I feel its finally worth playing now.  At least it is so far, my Goblin Bloodmage is only 14.

I recently got a station pass... yeah, something I never thought I'd do.  it was to try out planetside again.  however now whenever I open up my launcher I see vanguard and PoTBS, and both tempt me.

However, my computer is old.  I got it when I applied for closed beta in EVE, so I made sure it was godly enough to handle that new and amazing looking game.   with its amazing 512ram and 2.1Gh it served me well... till i added another 512.... and reached the limit of what my computer can handle.  I'm getting a new one mid-june, 3.2gh with twice the ram (up to 8gigs, hopefully will last as long as this one has) and a better graphics card.  my question is, should I put off getting VG till I have my new computer?

If i try it out now, I'll end up patching the whole thing... twice.  and any frustration caused by my not-so-great computer might put me off from the game.  however, I could just be making things too complex.  Should I get it now, try and play it on this old thing and then patch it up again when i get my new computer in around 2 weeks, or wait? any suggestions?
