Ex-EVE addicted need your help finding another MMO

WITWICSWITWICS Member Posts: 8

Hi guys and gals, greetings.

I spent the last 2 years and half playing EVE, 3 accounts at the same time (Alt-Tab a lot) and I really love that game but, unfortunately, got bored and found myself without goals to continue playing it.

1. Games I love:

1.1. Solo (in order of Love ):

- Jagged Alliance (all) - you will have to google it cuz is an old game that I will never forget and always love... sadly, it's long ago.

- Baldur's Gate II (both SoA and ToB)

- SW KOTOR

1.2. MMO

- EVE Online

2. Games I've played:

2.1. Solo

- Most of the bestselling ones since 1993, be it FPS, RPG, Strategy, whatever genre, some I finished, others, well, just installed and realized I lost some cash in the deal.

2.2. MMO

- Mu Online - got something like a LV 120 toon whem the Global server was, yet, in Korea;

- Anarchy Online - played the trial but could not pass the LV 5 Agent - 3 years ago - or L1 Soldier last week, yeah, I've tried it again but the graphics...

- Saga of Ryzom - played for 2 months, was in a guild with nice ppl, but was not the game for me, I was feeling like a child playing it.

- Tabula Rasa - played the 5 days trial just some days ago and was not interested enough to pay for it, got 3 Chars (LV 23 Commando, LV 16 Ranger and a LV 7 Specialist) and that in only 5 days playing, OFC not 24 hours/day cuz I work and have family and RL.

- Some others MMO that I can't even tell the name cuz I simple forgot it.

3. What I want:

- Mature playerbase

- Complexity (I don't like easy stuff, in fact, the harder the better)

- Sandbox

- Some content for solo playing when breaking from the parties stress and to be able to get the game stuff (coin, equipment etc)

- NO item/cash shop or any other way to get game stuff without, actually, playing the game. I'm ready to pay for multiple accounts but I don't think it's fair to get the goodies with my RL cash, neither for me or anyone else - that is one of the things that made me quit EVE (GTC Selling System).

- If possible: acceptable graphics to 2008 standards.

I will, really, appreciate any directions or hints, I've being looking for other MMO to play in the last 2 months, spending a lot of time in downloading the trial clients and reading all the forum threads (at least till page 10 - my limit).

Thanks in advance and best regards.

Personaly speaking as a EVE player,id recommend AoC if your rig can handle it.

AoC has complexity ,a nice and helpfull playerbase,The border kingdom pvp can be compared abit to the EVE's 0.0 territory wars, there is alot of solo content and some dungeons are soloable,it has no item/cash shops,it's graphics are 2008 tho they still havent enabled directX10.The only problem I see in your requests is sandbox,no MMOG curently on the market except EVE can be called a sandbox.

Also do not listen to any of the posts about AoC made here or on any site by people with less than 30 posts, curently on this site there are afew WoW kids that spend 24/7 at home and make multiple accounts to spam the same crap about AoC.

You will just have to try it out for yourself,I suggest getting a buddy key.

Sadly I don't think you're going to find much in the Sandbox arena...for some reason developers think we just don't want that anymore, its why I'm still playing UO.  If someone could make a decent MMO that was a sandbox I would jump on it.  However things promised to us (Darkfall) are probably never going to come, so I'll stick with UO.  Unless someone has found such a great game that actually takes advantage of the sandbox idea, and I've missed it.

Vanguard however its very slow going solo.

Sandbox style complex enough to keep the WOW kids away.

    Massive visually stunning world.

Currently experiencing a nice upturn in players many people have upgraded there machines for AOC then realised its crap and are now trying VG.

    I suggest you try Vendetta-Online

Space MMO that has twitch-based controls. Try the free trial.

Vangaurd is not even close to a sandbox type game.

True but it's the closest you will get outside Eve and UO.  For some reason the pressure to level up in VG is not there, loads of stuff other than adventuring to do.  Beautiful world to explore, deep complex clases to play.  Non instance player housing, a large array of mounts which you get at the early levels, Flying mounts and ships to control and hundreds of dungeons to explore.

You won't find a game that will compare to EVE.  Sorry man, I have looked and scraped and have yet to find one.

I think I have found the game I am waiting for .  It is classless and no levels.  100% skill based.  Its called EarthRise so totally looking forward to this

Yeah Earthrise is shaping up to be the spiritual home of the Pre-CU  SWG and EVE player's

  • apellaapella Member Posts: 8

If Earthrise can make it's statements true, they have a new player and I'm leaving AoC immediatly.

As to the OP: I'm sorry, but  I can't think of any game that gives an experience like EVE online or the old SWG.

After reading this post, I went away and read about Earthrise... I believe it may have a second new player

After reading all this, it makes be think i'm in the same boat as the Op.  I've been playing for 3 1/2 years in EvE, and the only reason I'm still there is because nothing else compares.  It is really the only sandbox around that isn't dying or dead.  I personally am a big crafter, and no one really supports that in their games.  As of late, it is making me wonder why companies keep making the same crap rather then going into a new field, like the field it seems alot of us want.  I do hope though Earthrise turns out good.  They may have another person joining the ranks if it is done well.  It is ashame there is no other games we can play.

As an AoC player, i WOULD NOT recommend AoC...

As of right now, there are whole guilds that exploit, for example Hordes of Goonheim on Deathwhisper.  Some of them have more than two level 80's, and they gold dupe all the time.  Crafting is BROKEN!!!  City building is broken as well.  Combat is alright if you're melee.  Casting is boring.  It is a grind, no matter how you look at it.

There is no incentive to get lvl 80 because PvP has no meaning.  Blood money isnt in the game.  Cities are instanced.  Every zone except cities are instanced.

And AoC is not a sandbox game at all, and has a weak community, largely due to total instancing.  Zones arent seamless.

In my opinion, go back to EVE til something better comes around.  It will be a while.
