One class question

The game was recommended to me by a person on the forums. I would like to try a bard. Is troubador or defiler the better choice?

Well, it would be a choice between Troubadour and Dirge....If my memory serves me correctly, the Troubadour is more defensive with buffs and Dirge is more offensive. Other than that, I don't know much about the scout classes, as I've only played priests. I'm sure others on here can steer you in the right direction.....

both bard classes are mainly buff classes, troubadour is more oriented at buffing mages, dirge is better for buffing melee dps and tanks. Dirge also has better defensive buffs so they usually end up in maintank group in raids. troubs are usually in mage dps groups in raids.

the better melee buffs help the dirges also to be a bit easier to solo, and do a bit more dps than troubs.

so it mainly depends on the question  if you prefer to please mages, or melee classes.

If you're going to roll onto a PVP server, be a troubador, they fair much better in PVP than dirges. Otherwise it doesn't matter as they're both good in their own way in PVE.  Defilers are healers but I assume you mixed dirge and defiler up.

Defilers can be really fun to play as though as they do quite a decent damage with ALOT of DOTs and they almost always hit their targets. Plus they're great healers.

Also, Troubadors can cast spell like attacks and do good at long range while Dirge are more close combat fighters.

I liked the troubadour better then the dirge. Not sure why.

I found the mystic a bit more fun playing than the Defiler.

Troubadour are buffing mages, while dirge buffs melee. As someone above said.

You can also switch between the two with just a few hours work so you are not locked in if you decide to change your mind.  All you have to do is betray your home city, and either work your way back in, or establish yourself in a new city.  Once your time in exile is done you will have the choice of retraining as either a troub or dirge.  All your spells will get reset to apprentice I in this process.

Just one word of warning, while they are both good classes and highly valued for raids neither bard class solo’s very well.  They can solo, just not as quickly as most other classes in the game.
