Why do I feel alone?

When I play AoC, I feel alone. People never talk, except on OOC and then its just to get help. I wont compare this game to any others, or put it down. Thats because I kinda like it. It has so much potential, I just wish people would talk more. Maybe its the fault of instances. If you see someone, theres a good chance you will never run into them again.

For me what makes an MMO is the people. It's like eating in a restaurant. Of course you want a pretty place with a view and good service. However if it's quiet and  you have no one to share a good conversation with, it gets dull.

Yes I could join a guild, but why should I have too? I'm only lvl 17 and just want to chat. Oh well, I will keep playing and enjoying the game, hopefully I will run into people with whom to share it with. Just my thoughts, don't get angry if you like the game. I like it too

1st 20 levels is a single player game. Once you get intot he real world you Join a guild, thats what you do in MMO's, make friends and you will always have people to play with and talk with, And why you you whine about being alone if you dont want to join a guild

Just an FYI to the original poster...

I was toying around with posting a similar topic. Before I did, I realized that I am only lvl 13 and maybe I should give it a bit more time. This is indeed moslty a single player game until past 20. Give it some time.

I really don't see how they've gotten away with instancing like this.  Real estate in an mmo should be shared by everyone and there as a referrence point.  Seems like it would be like playing Hellgate.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the ASORPG. That would be, the Anti-Social Online Role Playing Game. It rewards independence and anti-social behavior.

Don't talk to me! unless you need me for a quest that I can't do alone either.

I'd prefer to play alone, and only have to put up with people in a key city location...and thenI only wanna show off my Uber gear

Where it's ok to talk about pwning people even though combat doesn't depend on how skilled I am as a player, but how long I've sat on my ass in front of a computer monitor.

Please join our guild, but don't actually talk unless its game-related. If you can't raid, you can't hang.

...seriously, wtf is happening to the genre. Lets be honest, gameplay in mmorpg's typically suck, because they are subject to the limits of network technology (latency is a major factor in what can and cannot be done in a mmorpg game). The original hook for the genre was community. actually playing with that many people was incredible!

Now, we're seeing gameplay that discourages social interaction. So, we're stuck with games that lack in gameplay AND community.  So we're stuck watching our games play themselves with no one to talk to while it happens.

The game will need to reward players who team up a bit more, and the chat windows isn't any help either. Hopefully it is just a balancing question with the loot and there is many complains about the chat so we hope they fix it up soon.

But join a guild as soon as you hit 20, it helps a lot.

People always cry about not being able to Solo , so now MMOs are solo friendly.

You might as well play a single player game.

Games like EQ1 were amazing because you HAD to group and you needed other classes ( like healers tanks, wizards for teleports

Casters needed Enchanters mana bluffs etc

    Tanks needed Clerics heals

Clerics needed Tanks to tank etc etc etc

    Everyone was needed .

NOW YOU NEED NO ONE .

Heh, to be fair, the game that you did models for seems to promote this as well.  I went 1-35 in that game without ever teaming up with another person.  And I honestly tried to find groups but noone was interested since I wasn't high enough for the red circles(tm).

I'd say the gameplay is more engaging than past MMO's, particularly the combat, however it has to be said that the chat and Guild UI's don't exactly facilitate communication atm. To their credit, Funcom have make rectifying this a priority. I hope we see improved chat and guild functons very soon. Funcom also need ot consider more group content. Perhaps too, the implementation of drunken brawling will help facilitate commmunity. I could see this being used as a tool.

AoC's biggest weakness at the moment is that more effort needs to be put into encouraging grouping at a lower level.

I agree with the trend of MMO being anti group....thats why FFXI and COH (never played EQ or DAOC) will remain in my heart.  What i love about mmos are failing.  MMO's, despite the misconceptions, are truly a social game that involves teamwork and communication.....now i dunno i just dont see it anymore. I hope one day this will change....

    playing: Dragon Age
    Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect
    Want to try: Fallen Earth

Truth to that, I miss the golden age of MMO's where the social hierarchy was sometimes even more complicated than in real life.  Most of the MMO's now days, you might as well be playing a cooperative single player game.

Not only that but the minimap places a marker for people in your group so small it is basically the size of 1 pixel. This makes being in a group bad cause ur always waiting for people to catch up or even find you. For the game being in the beginning stages i would say its fine, but there is much room for interface/grouping/strategy to be improved.

Join a guild, especially on a pvp server. It's so much more of an experience when you at any given time have a band of fellow guild mates to travel with and adventure with. Right now I'm working with my fellow Cimmerians to build a guild city.

When you see the line above ( highlighted in RED,)  it means the game was released too early.  Steer clear.

On the Contrary, what we were served is quite the dish. However, potential means we will get to see the game evolve and grow and what better way to appreciate all the things to come than to have been there at the beginning of it all?

Keep in mind the game just released.  People that often play the game at release are more of the hardcore gamers that are trying to quickly do everything they can because they've been waiting for the game for so many years.  Once the waters settle people will be more likely to roleplay and communicate with eachother.  People typically like to feel the game out on their own at the beginning though, well atleast that's how I feel.  If you still feel alone after 3-4 months then there's some issues that need to be addressed.

So true it hurts. The genre becoming popular was also the death of it. FPS and fighting game-players are all over the MMORPG-genre by now and they didn't adapt at all - the games did. Sad. The major crook here is WoW, casual/FPS/Tekken-player-pleaser #1.

It's terribly nice that these games can now please a lot of people, but the price was that there's now not a lot of games being made that encourages teamplay, rewards dedication etc. There's an element of FPS/Tekken in all the upcoming MMORPGs, the genre has been changed to a bunch of hybrid games.

Because they are or were interested in the game.

Some people are looking for informed opinions before they spend on a game.

It's like saying that you have no right to comment on a political situation overseas because it's not happening right on your doorstep.

    lol antisocial

Usually If I see a player in trouble like too much aggro on him or his hp is too low I rush to help him out or divert the aggro .He doesn’t have to be my friend or guild member .

But unfortunately , I rolled on a Bear Shaman and its difficult to roll him to lvl 20 in the beginning

Many a times too much of a mob aggros on me and its difficult to handle them at a lower lvl Bear Shaman .People will just be standing next to me and they wont help.Never.Just wait till I die

Exactly. I was going to say that the OP's problem is now in every MMORPG.

    And that's pretty sad.
