Anyone going to give AoC a whirl?

GarfunkelGarfunkel Member UncommonPosts: 224

I'm really only playing WoW as there's no real alternative atm.

I played LOTRO for a while but that's really not all there and the absence of PvP kind of takes the war out of the ring wars. Monster play is pretty atrocious.

But with Open beta starting on 1st May, I was just wondering if anyone is going to give Age of Conan a go? I'm not sure what I think of it at the mo - maybe a little too dark and serious for my tastes but I'm ready for a new game.

Nope, got plenty to do in WoW. Maybe the SOE players can finally have a good game to play, the whole SOE lineup is pretty poor. That would give the 600k SOE players a good game instead of the sorry crappolla they have now,. WoWs 10 Million are here to stay.

If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)

I gave it a wirl but promtly uninstalled the beta... coming form WoW the PvP and PvE was slow and boring.  There is only 1 game that looks to drag me away from Wow and thats TCoS.

Not Warhammer? That's the one I'm really waiting on. Age of Conan would just be a stepping stone to it even if I did get in to it.

Hardest part about AoC is if the system can handle it

Mate almost all of 3years+ playing wow guys have already trying aoc,as for me im from the launch there..its more diferent and far more challenging than wow, graficks are next gen, making wow's graficks look funny ,combat is kinda awesome..

Only bad thing i can think off from what ive seen so far is that u need a reallly strong computer to survive all the cruel  loading, and enjoy the fantastic graphics...pvp is great at least from some battles i gave 10 lvl vs 12 or 11 vs 14 ,the combat's result its skill based and not gear based like it happens in wow in most occasions and ofc manual combat system =].

    Am playing it currently.

My guidance, and it is my own opinion only, to fellow wow players:

If EQ2, lotro or Vg was not for you, chances are that AoC will be the same. Its a good game and a very smooth launch but it does not stray from the generic formula that these other games have.

It is a different model to WOW in that it has a technical spec that can be quite demanding rather than the miid spec WOW has for accessability. the class types are fun and diverse but the game feels a little souless and bland so far. The game is hugely instanced which may be quite unerving to many but it does not offer anything innovative to grab and keep you.

Its early days but the graphics are good, the launch is smooth and it will be interesting to see how they are going to make this one stand out from the pack.

I'm playing AoC as well; just started yesterday in fact. What's bothering me mostly is that players seem to be blowing through content already. My intent with adopting the game so early was to enjoy that 'new' feeling, but if that only lasts the week ... lol oy.

Now I say this as a fan of WoW, but cripes I'd love to a unique MMO once in a while (Eve being the sole exception).

I'm playing AoC and WoW currently, and AoC is strictly ok to me. Laggy game, some people with monster systems still run it with shitty fps. Its instanced a lot. The combat system is cool, especially the fatalities. I still can't really get into it though, I think I'm going to stick with WoW still.

I cant play aoc anymore...really..impossible...but now that i have an upgrated rig ill play vanguard...

Gigantic world no loadings, imba graphics, 16 races, player houses, player boats, fly mounts, 16 starting areas...and the unplayable bugs are gonne..Vanguard starts now..aoc players now have a rig to play vanguard so you will see...

I'm playing AoC now but will probably be done with it long before WOTLK hits the stores.  My opinion may change if Battlekeeps and City building turn out to be what I dare to hope they could be.  The heavily-instanced nature of AoC is probably the biggest downfall of what otherwise is a pretty good game.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

I have a new computer so AoC > WoW for me.

If you can run it, you won't be baggin on it.  It's a better game.

My current PC can't handle it, but I plan to give it a try eventualy. From what I hear, I'll probably do the initial areas, see those animated quests and the shiny, but I don't plan on subscribing because of overinstancing and zoning.

I'm loving AOC so far.Very nice to play something that is not following the popular setup with mmo's.

Ive never played WoW because it just didnt excite me at all. just couldnt see myself getting into it.

However, i am going to give AoC a try in about a month after the hype dies down and the Devs polish it up a bit after the usual launch day massacres of most MMOs.

the thing that really excites me is created my own city for my guild. Being the lord of my own city, suddenly i think of the scene from BraveHeart where the English king threw that guy out of the castle window....................kickass

but yeah, definitely gonna give it a try

It's a matter of opinion at this point.  I'm probably enjoying AoC more because it's new.  WoW will most likely have a better replay value, but I'm just burnt out on that game.

When I think back to WoW I think of standing in line at the battlemasters for gear that will become obsolete in the near future.  No thanks.
