That sucks! I actually ventured to the new zone, very snowy, lol. I'm a level 50 Hunter, so far all quests are green to me. Very nice landscape so far.
I'm only 36 and everything is purple to me, so I really have no business running around there.. .but I couldn't resist. Besides, being grossly under-level for an area has never stopped me before. It's my adventurous spirit!
I made it as far as a small out-post place in the NW corner, right near the sea (or what I assume is the sea).
Any doubts I had about Forochel looking sufficiently "Arctic" have been vanquished. My god that place is frigid looking when you get farther N. It was daylight, and to look around you wouldn't know it with all the heavy weather in the air. Didn't pass any spots that caused cold DoT, though... and didn't jump in the water.
The ride in there is beautiful... I was riding over the mountain pass from Evendim when it was still dark out - pre-sunrise. One of the first sights I got was a big lake reflecting high mountain peaks and the aurora borealis overhead. Beautiful sight. I now have a new Windows desktop
And how about that new Quest interface? Quite a nice layout. I love all the toggles.
I also like the new horse summoning animation... the whistling and all. Some people on the official forums were complaining about it - I guess it might be a bit shrill on the ears if you have it loud or are wearing earphones.. or both. I think it's a great touch. Speaking of horses... I noticed, too, that the mobs were pretty thin along the roads, making horseback riding alot easier - though through the dense foggy air, it can be easy to lose the trail at some points.
Noticed a bug though... rather funny one. After almost dying to an "Ancient Evil" mob that looked something like an ice elemental, I realized I'd probably seen all I really safely could in Forochel. I ported back to Evendim (Hunter "Guide" abilities ftw!) and it was still that heavy thick fog... Wierd. Travelled to Bree... Same thing.
At this point I began to despair thinking that I'd inadverdently brought darkness upon the whole world (an Elf?! Say it isn't so!) Then I logged out and back in... and all was fine. Went ahead and submitted a ticket. for it. Phew... That was a close one. Weird bug nonetheless.
All in all... very very nice update so far. Can't wait 'til I'm actually high enough level to quest up there.

I am hung up at 12% (513/2900) been like that for 10 or 15 minutes... wish more companies would offer optional patch download locations... never had any issues getting world of warcraft updated by downloading from fileplanet.

That's all well and good Mike, but how are the fog effects?

So far so good in book 13 for me. Must say though looks like Turbine borrowed AoC's look to the mammoths, shame cant ride them though... yet
... were both taken outdoors, in daylight. Morning to be exact. In fact, in the shot with the Mammoths, you can see the sun trying to poke through behind them.
Foggy enough for ya?
Now it's not like that *everywhere* nor all the time as I understand. But it's quite the impressive effect. It wasn't even particularly snowing heavily when I was going through, so I can't really say I witnessed any full-on blizzard like conditions. Look forward to that, though. The visibility is far enough that you can see mobs well before you come up on them. That's the only way I managed to get as far as I did with hardly any aggro.
I don't have my settings on high and am only on DX9, so it might look better yet for those who have DX10 and/or higher settings.
By the way, Die_Scream... Have I mentioned that your avatar is oddly disturbing? lol

The Horse whistling is great, reminds me of Gandalf when he summoned Shadowfax in the second movie.
Yeah, I'm having a blast in Forochel thus far...working on Book 13 atm...so far mostly solo, except for a few chapters are easier with help!

Turbine did put up a torrent of Book 13 (NA/AU/NZ only, not EU) last night, which I used so I'd be ready to roll when the servers came back up today.
Might not matter today, but if you guys are still having problems, give it a shot...

Nice pics, looks good. Does your breath mist realistically?
Wow, what else is great about the book?
*edit* nevermind I don't want to hijack your thread I will make my own
Turbine had mammoths long before Forochel, they were introduced at Misty Mountains. Plus, how different can one mammoth look from another mammoth:P
I love the fact that Lossoth remind me of Sami people from Scandinavia.
the fog is a bug
log out and back in to see the normal sky
