Not the worst kind of publicity, but what is Aion really ? A game with two races which look both like elves (one light, one dark) and PvP each other.

    A very limited concept, IMHO.

But is that the kind of game you want to play for years ? Personally, I would ask for a little more diversity.

You can't get more concept than that unless you dig, and that applies to every single game.

    For example.

WoW: A game where good guys fight bad guys and kill giant mobs to get items. It sure looks dumb this way, but then, you dig, the concept grows.

If you're interested in Lore, Aion team said to be working in texts with it, tho you can get a lot by checking aionsource.com wiki, if you're interested in game concepts, just feel free to ask here, I will probably answer.

Aion is on the top of my list of MMORPGs though I'm not really sure if it will best WoW...  Wow already had a large fanbase of before the MMORPG because of Warcraft of course... Which then multiplied that fanbase even more. Which even led to me trying WoW and by the time my trial expired regretting every penny I'd spent on it... Aion doesn't have the fanbase in place yet and though it should be a great game. I doubt it will get as popular as WoW.

I think Aion has the potential to become a big mmo. I've read a lot about it, seen videos, and so far it looks very impressive. Beta reports have been generally positive and it's still months from release.  Looks like NCsoft is on the right track with the game.

The only reason I had even heard of Aion was Nihilum's preview of the game. They are currently the best, and arguably most well known guild currently in WoW. If they leave WoW for aion, people will take notice.

I think Aion's biggest obstacle is releasing around the same time as WoW's expansion. AoC is going to get  a lot of people trying the game because people are sick of WoW. Aion might lose potential customers to WoW's expansion.

At any rate, if the game is really good, subscribers will come. Word of mouth is very powerful.

IMO, I believe that Aion will do very well for itself . Stating the obvious WoW, L2 (Just picking two top MMORPG's) keep feeding us the same old crap over and over >>IMO<< BC for WoW was a horrible experience and really killed the game for me , i had such a more enjoyable time Pre:BC then i ever did playing BC. There were a lot of elements missing from L2 that really hurt the game. I really think they were heading in the right direction with the game but , didn't put enough time into fully understanding the players needs. I'm not gonna go into it  just gonna point out that not being able to jump in this game really took a lot of respect out of this game for me and im sure a lot of other players , but don't get me wrong the graphics/details in this game are extraordinary just the sence of not being able jump on a rock. or jump over a small log really hurts the game , but what really did it for me on this game was the "Grind"

if you have ever played L2 you would know what I'm talking about.

But the Videos , Feedback , Clips, Forums Feedback from Aion has really gotta me pretty excited to finally move on to another game worth taking the time to play this game i still don't know everything about this game , and thats what keeps it exciting for me

Honestly, AoC is another vanguard in my eyes. I played it and it was meh. Aion has a good chance at being my next mmo, it looks great but still seems to lack the creativity im looking for. Aion imo will be the #1 mmo this year. The combat looks fun from the vids at lvl 20, cant wait to see max lvl combat.

I personally think Aion will be THE next great mmo. Like everything apars awesome. ok, ppls are keep saying "there isnt anything new about it" so what? do there always need to be something totally new to be good? i dont think so. Beside i wanted to mention, someone wrote that there are just 2 elven like figures light/dark and thats it. Well, tell me im wrong but.... did for example WOW start at the point it is now? i dont think so either. They keept working on WoW. And im deadly sure that they also will keep on the good work on Aion.

so my last words are: Aion ftw!

btw, i told a few friends about Aion, and they all where like: O_o omfg! tell me when it starts! and yes, they were also WoW players ^^

Aion is just another game that may or may not suffer from this infestation

And to answer the Original Question Yes it will be there is not as much hype going with this title and that is a good thing it is gonna hit like a stealth missile and blow the competitions mind.

I'm trying to keep myself under control. Avoiding videos and more info as much as possible but it's almost impossible!

I need to crawl under a rock until it launches here hehe.

I loved how at around 0:50 & 1:00 of the video that it's made into slow motion with added noise that'll trip out any weed/acid/coke user, it added dramatic effect lol.

As for the fighting in general, for FFXI players, the video might remind of a character constantly using those near end-game/end-game Weapon Skills, especially the Great Sword Weapon Skill, don't you think? It just makes me more attracted to this game, to me Aion is like an upgrade that FFXI should've had before.

If you didn't think it was for you thats fine. But that doesn't mean it won't be the next great one. The net response from the PvP Weekend was beyond good. And it's so very different and refreshing it really is the next 'something different from WoW clones' MMOG.

PvP weekend impressions would differ depending on who you asked to, I didn't see such unity in the kind of conclussions to group them into the "beyond good" term.

That being said, a battleground with hyping purposes set by devs is what, 1% of the game content? You can't state the game is going to be the next one from god just cause that 1% was appealing for 6 hours.

And about wow clones, I honestly fail to see how AoC is so different, but I also fail to care, since this is Aion's forum.

For their bad there is none "good" mmo except these too right now and i dont think  Aoc will make it happen.
But with warhammer and expansion of wow coming these players (and their are making a huge number) will just go to the game that will come out first and is "great" ofc.
I really hope that Aion will come faster than the rest warhammer and wotlk cause imo its a huge opportunity for a game to get many subscribers now that there are so many players frustrated from wow.
But i really believe that Aion will get the huge community as wow has right now.
Cause the community is the one that raises one's game prestige and makes a game appreciated and well known.

What exactly does the next "great" MMO mean? By the end of 2008 there will be a good handful of great games availble, I am not sure what determines its "greatness" though. Hopfully your not making reference to the amount of people playing a game because alot of the games with the most people playing them is what ruined them.

Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.

I think his point is valid, altho I wouldn't use those words to best describe this game.

The point is, anyone who played Lineage 2 knows that game is so hardcore about grinding it's not fun. If I remember correctly it took a year for the first guy to hit max lvl in lineage 2, and that was done by grinding because that game barely has quests to help leveling.

Lineage 2 is a game made by koreans for koreans, not trying to be biased but it seems koreans enjoy the kind of game with lots of grinding involved. Or at least the developers there seem to think that way.

Will this game be the same?

About the "shemale" commentary, I always hated the way characters looked in Lineage 2. Male characters looked gay and female characters just looked stupid like those schoolgirls from anime. I'd best describe characters in lineage 2 looking like they are tall children wearing awesome armor and weapons. Too "anime" for my taste.

Now I could care less about looks if the game had an awesome world, PvP and no mindless grinding.

If this game has these things I'm in.

The flaw in your point is you are talking about Lineage 2 not Aion. More over the reason that persons post was not greeted in a friendly manner is one, the games they play are guilty of grind and two if he had done any looking into the facts of Aion he would know just how wrong his statement was. Aion was made to appeal more to a western audience.

That sounds good to me (about the western audience).

All the comparison to Lineage 2 is because they are being made by the same guys... I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to Korean games, guess i'll have to wait for release to judge it myself.

The game being made by the same guys is a double edged argument, they could make a L2 copy out of Aion and take all their customers from L2 to this new game, and then release L3 (which is in the making) to kill Aion, or they could make a different concept and attract new players to their games, seems quite logical to me.

Anyways, beta testing can't lie, people reached level 34 (out of 50) in 15 days, 34 being the top level on this second stage of korean closed beta, with a game time limited to 10h per day or something like that. Devs stated that hardcore players would be able to reach top level in a month, 3 months for the casual players, which seems quite alright for me. Then, we know there is a lot of fluffy things in this game, and many ways to progress ingame which won't require you to be online 24/7.

About the shemale thing, its quite easy to go in youtube and type "aion customization" to realize that this game is next gen in that also, you might want to look like a drag queen in steroids, or look like the manliest macho ever, but that's cause the customization system is cool like that.

    Western style of leveling granted.

pvp? check this video, for example: aion.curse.com/videos/details/1447/

Awesome world? Two styles, a dark, cold one: youtube.com/watch and a vivid, brightful one: youtube.com/watch

Nah this won't be the next great MMO, might be a good game, but not a major player in the market place.

true.. aion is not bad.. but nor do they much much things thats really new to us.  yea.. flying system is cool.. but there are many game with that element..(eg. perfect world).  well atleast personally i have not found not even one element thats only exist in aion....(including the npc race, there are game which have had done that long ago)

WoW has not done anything that hasn't been done before. Large one piece map? Lineage 2 has done this before and much larger I might add. Skill's? They are typical mmorpg skills. Classes? Nothing new there. Labor skill? Done before.

    Very very true.
