Why I Did Not Like This Game

mike470mike470 General CorrespondentMember Posts: 2,396

I heard some pretty good things when I first started looking up information.  "The best PvP!" etc.

So I downloaded it and played for about a week, got to level 25, then I realized two things.

1.  The quests were bland.  All they would say is "kill this many of this", and this was mainly the quests for the game.  I found this very boring, and in no way what so ever did it make me interested in the game.

2. The game is mainly a grind, especially when you are a lower level.  Sure when you are level 45+, mabye you can enjoy PvP, but if you are lower than that, it is extremely hard to do PvP.  You have to train ALOT to get to that level as well.

So in the end, I found the game repetitive and just a plain grind.  They say the wars are fun, but I'm not going to grind forever just so I can do them.

I got over amonths enjoyment out of the game. I got to level 38 as a specialist and find it boring to level. It takes way to long. I may play it once every other week for maybe an hour then I move onto other games as the grinding gets very boring.

I played it until 22 when I figured out that I was still lvling and doing quests within viewing distance of where I started. The pvp sounded fun but I would have to get to grind to lvl 45 to even do it. Now don't get me wrong I think that grinds make for a better high lvl community but I'd like a little more to look forward to than just CW after all my hard work. I like pvp but I'd rather play something like GW which has a little more depth and no cash shop. I did like the fantasy/sci-fi theme though and wish that they made more games like it. It entertained me for a while but I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

it's not....I really hated this game. forget what level I got to....but yah...such an annoyance, even with the new content that was suppose to come out soon....I hated the leveling and skill set up....it made it so you would have afk level to do things, or to be any good you would have to do multiple skills, which you had to level up....bah. skill points are a better idea any day.

This game is so boring... Always same quests and at lvl 40- we only can grind grind and grind again...no lower lvl pvp or anything like that

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

Totally agree. It was a disappointment. My first shock was the graphics. Sure, they look nice in screenies, but when I played it felt like my character was flat, as well as the world. Nothing felt like it was modeled in 3D...

The combat is also pretty much lagged. The running around and confusing quest system for beginners didn't help at all.

To top it all off, do they even keep the game updated these days? I stopped playing the beginning of the year, but every month I run all my game clients so that they can update. Not once has RF had to download an update!

I thought it was fun. But the time i was playing it my friend was always hogging the computer so i couldn't play. Got to lvl 20 in one night. That was a hectic night. Another friend was being bitchi so we made a new account in a different server. Specialist and wanted to use those big machine. LOOKS HECTIC first but yeah. The quests are the same thingy and Chip war i mostly see those Casts winning. Chip war bad graphics to run my fraps wasnt good but was weak got killed mostly xD

i iike the game, if tyou find these quests repeditive, im guesing mmo's arent for you.

and lol grind at lvl 25, im lvl 37 and i am begining to find it to become alot more grind.

you could get up a lvl a day at lvl 25 ffs

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

    A level a day...that's what I call a grind...especially when there are so many levels x_X

  • jimbo833jimbo833 Member Posts: 158

lol theres only 56 and what other game is there when u get past like half way it hard to get up??

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

Guild Wars has 20 levels...you can get to maximum level in 2 days of playing...

  • jimbo833jimbo833 Member Posts: 158

that poop, 2 days, then what do you do after you reach max?

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

The point isn't to reach max...that's exactly the kind of mindset that causes so many games to fail. People shouldn't be playing games just to get to max level...they should be playing them because it's FUN.

  • jimbo833jimbo833 Member Posts: 158

ye ill agree that high max's are a let down but 2 days,

honestly what do you do after you reach max??

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

Continue playing the game...You don't seem to understand that the game goes on once you've reached max level. Reaching it means nothing really.

  • jimbo833jimbo833 Member Posts: 158

kk, guess i would need to play it to understand it, i tryed it but jst couldnt get into it :(

Actually enjoy the game.  It seems like that  almost every MMO (not MMORPG, none of them are role playing anymore) today is full of grind so they can cover up the fact that there's nothing amazing about there game.  Guild Wars has very good pvp and very enjoyable quests.  You have to realize you don't play a game to reach max, you play a game to have fun.

I have to agree with mostly everything that was said here. I have been trying to look for a decent free MMO for some reason just because I got a little bored of Guild Wars. In this game, there is literally no customization. Right off the bat I knew this was gonna be a grind fest because the first quest was to kill 10 of these, 15 of those, 5 of these and then like kill till you get to level 3. Boring, I got to like 4 and then just lost interest in it.

If you have the patience for it, great game... not bored after over 2 years playing, but I agree you have to be very, very patient for it!.

i got to lv50 as a cora mage or w/e

i was nothing more than fodder in the wars, it was so fustrating to run all the way to where my nation was only to die in a matter of 10, lag heavy seconds...it was a success, i considerd, if i was able to get off a full spell macro before death.

money was a huge problem as you burn through pots but have really no means of making the money to buy them.  for the first 35 levels everymobs drops tons of items, after that its super rare and when you do get a decent drop, its only a fraction of the money spent on pots to get it.

i needed to skill my defense, which required me to sit there and take it for a mob, as getting hit raises def skill xp....i mentioned how hard it was to make the money needed to pot myself....and now i had to sit there let a mob attack me, suck down pots, just to raise my def...

i did however like the ability to make spell combos, good animations and good skills, hast he potential to be really fun, it just....isnt

Cora caster classes aren't front liners... and tbh if you are nothng more than fodder that's down to your skill pt's and lack of decent armours!, I have a 45 Grazier and I certainly gain more kills in a chip war than I die.

The grind isn't for everyone I'll admit,  but the PvP is very rewarding once your toon is tough enough to compete. I have had 1 on 1 scraps last 5 minutes, whilst we try and out wit one another... and dropping an entire Accretian exp group is nothing but fun :)

Levelling is easy, keeping skill and ability pt's capped is the hard part!.

<Hope this post makes sense, I'm rather hung over as I sit here and write it>

grind game? u can make 40 lvl less than a week.. In other games like Lineage2 you have to play months if you whana be a good player..  try to play atleast till 30 lvl(first class) then you get stronger, and better.. hunt in party's, like me.. and you will need only 2 days to make that 30 lvl..    Then i tryed first time to play RFO, i thought the same as you guys.. grind, stupid, borring.. but I still played and found new friends, we hunted together.. and after a week, this game become my favorite... :)

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

A week consisting of how many hours sitting in front of your PC? Any game that requires me to kill mob after mob, whether for a quest or not, is what I consider to be a grind.

Let's take Guild Wars for example. Quests don't involve you having to kill X amount of Y. There are some very fun ones, such as participating in drinking contests, solving riddles and puzzles etc. And no, these aren't mini-games, these are actual quests...
