Anyone else having trouble signing up for EVE?

Cephus404Cephus404 Member CommonPosts: 3,675

I went ahead and downloaded the software and I'm trying to sign up for an account and it's refusing to let me.  I first tried to sign up for the 14-day trial and it keeps telling me "Invalid email address" no matter what I put in.  I then tried to sign up for the paid account, same problem.  I've tried it with 4 different e-mail accounts, it rejects all of them.  I tried asking for help, nobody seems to know how to reply.

Ideas?  Thanks.

I've never heard of this problem before but that's definitely not to say it isn't happening. Try emailing [email protected] maybe they will be able to help you out.

I just did, thanks.  I tried searching for anything of this sort and couldn't find any, but of course, you can't post questions on the EVE forums unless you have an account and I can't get an account...

So I came here, hoping someone here might know.

Apparently they figured out they have a problem, now when I go to any of their sign-up pages, you get a runtime error.

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

    Hopefully they get it fixed.

Ah well, finally got it to work (EVE's tech support is no help at all) and it wasn't worth the time I wasted on it.  It's about 180-degrees from what I want in  a game.  Everything I could do there that I might have found enjoyable, I could do in an offline game without paying a monthly fee.  I also noticed that the help system there really sucks, their tutorials are very badly written, their FAQs don't actually ANSWER the question and their help staff doesn't bother to actually do anything like... oh... STOP PEOPLE FROM SPAMMING THE CHAT CHANNELS!  I sat there last night watching the same person post porn spam over and over and over and over and over... and nobody did a thing about it.

Ah well, I tried at least...

Out of curiosity what is it you wanted to do in Eve ?

The help system in Eve is really good. They have help channels in game. They have a complete guide on their website www.eve-online.com/guide/en/. The tutorials are not that bad considering how complex the game is.

As far as chat spam goes did you know you could just right click their name and block them ?

Your little tantrum post here sounds more like "Wahhh no one is holding my hand in game and I am too lazy to read something myself."

You didn't try very hard by the sounds of it.

Sure, I know I *COULD* block them, the point is that I shouldn't have to.  If they can't figure out that someone posting the same spam every 30 seconds shouldn't be allowed to do so, then screw 'em.

As far as the help system, it wasn't helpful at all.  Most of their FAQ was just copies of the in-game non-helpful crap, word for word.  Besides, how helpful is a help system that you have to get out of the game to go look at?

It's much easier for you to right click and block someone then it is for CCP to hire and pay people to sit in the starter corp channels.

As far as the help system goes I will go so far as saying that it is the best in the industry. If you took the time to actually understand how complex the game is you would realize this. I do not know if this is still being done by CCP but they actually have a volunteer program for players to donate their time in helping new players out in the newbie help channels as well as actually taking the time to convo new players to help them out with any questions they might have. How many other games have this ?

I ask you again though, what was it that you were expecting from the game that you feel you could just as easily do in a single player offline game ? Judging by your posts here from when you finally were able to get the trial going and this latest post today you tried the game for a day at most. Believe me when I tell you that 1 day is no where near enough time to even begin to scratch the surface of what this game has to offer.

Hell I'll go as far as to say at this point that you are beginning to sound like some guy from some other mmo company paid to start this thread and to try and bad mouth Eve or something.

Yeah, I must be doing really well since I'll badmouth just about every other MMO out there too.

And CCP already has people in the newbie channel, they're just not doing anything.  Ask for help, they're there.  They just seem to be blind to people advertising viagra.

As far as the game is concerned, I understand the complexity, I just don't care for the game mechanics.  I can do all of the flying around and agent missions and PvE just fine without being online, in fact that's exactly where offline games shine.  The only other part to EVE seems to be PvP which seriously doesn't interest me much.

So tell me, oh wise one, what does EVE have to offer other than PvP?

To the likes of you? Nothing. You are better off searching for another mmo or perhaps a single player game

  • I've used the help, recruitment, region, system and racial channels plus others.  I generally have three to five chats open at a time depending on my mood.  I've never seen a porn or viagra advertisement in my three years in the game.  The only spammers I've seen are isk sellers.  I've played other MMO's that have the same problem.  If you don't like spammers, just block them.

As far as the game content (what Eve offers), Eve is a sandbox MMO.  It's not like WoW's or EQ2's questing system which you can also find in a good single player RPG.  Quests (missions) are solely a tool for making money.  If missions don't interest you, you can always do exploration sites, go into manufacturing or perform research.   Eve does have a great economy; the best I have ever seen in a MMO.  Manipulating the market can be a game in itself.  If you really want to get a feel for the game, join a guild.  One of the best ways to immerse yourself in a MMO is make friends that show you the ropes.

But I think you've already made of your mind.  Which is just fine with me.
