WW2 Online updates...

Hi. A few motnhs back, probably towards te start of the year, i downlaoded the trail of WW2 online.

Now im a big fan of WW2 based agmes, unfortunately there has yet to be a game to do this subject justice. BF1942 is good, but is way too arcady, with the maps being unrealistically small. Ive tried all the games, and none were done satisfactory. I tried this thinking that it would be a proper war, like those two parts..WW2..and online, shoulsd create some magic.

However, i went straight into offline mdoe to try it out, and i was disappointed. The graphics seemed to be so out of date, i cant actually remember playing a 3D game with graphics similar, i mean, your perhaps looking at graphics thats around 8 years old at least. So this was surprising as its nowhere near that age. Hmm i thought, well i can look past that, and try the game play, however, the player and gun models again put me off, they seemed not to resemble guns at all, but just grey blocks, and the way they fired and the way you moved was highly unrealistic, especially for a game of this type. There is a chance that i had in game graphics settings turned way down as i never checked, but i was hoping for somehting a bit better in this department.

Im not hooked on good graphics, but at least graphics that is at least representive of the last decade.

I write this cos that was at the beginning of the year, and i heard that there has been numerous updates, including a graphics update of sorts. I would like to hear off anyone who plays if this area has improved, cos im sure it would be a game i liked, if the game and physics actually looked 1/10th realistic, as thats what a game like this needs to be. No good shooting a gun and not even seeing bullets fire, or even the gun hardly (which is what i experienced)

This is not a flame, as you can tell by the way im writing this, and i know the developers are kinda under financial pressure and lack of resources. So whats the current shape of the game?

Thanks

The graphics have been completely redone.  They have taken 95% of the foilage out and replaced it and they are working on the final touches of the rest.  The ground has been retextured and they have a new employee who is rebuilding every building in game to give them a better floor plan and make them 3D.

They also have technology otw to make the terrain be close to an axact replica of Europe using satelite technology.  They are also adding a more detailed texture to all units, the textures are done, they just need to finish some back end work.

I'm not sure about what you are saying in regards to the physics engine.  The physics in the game are the best I have ever seen.  Yes, some things can be greatly improved and they are.  The makers post updates in the forums every Friday and things are getting better and better.

Bable covered most of it. The graphics have indeed been updated over the last few months. multi-textire ground textures, entirely new tree models, a big change to terrain deformation and it'll only continue to get better. The next patch adds new immersive radial clutter and the unpdate after that will replace the Grass objects and add new grass terrain all over.

I don't know if you're familiar with the old unenterable "hard Forests" WWIIOL had, but they're all gone. All those forest areas are fully enterable and very cool to fight in! :)

I have to concur with Bable here, I'm not sure what You mean by teh physics model. There is not another game out there with a physics model as complex as the one we have in WWIIOL. I'd hazard to guess you didn't try it for very long due to the graphics and such, as you'd be hard pressed to find a better one on the market.  ;)

In any case, I hope when you give it a try again, it's more to your liking. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Also, if you actually play on the Main Server, try to hook up with an organized squad. It makes all the difference in the world when playing this game. The learning curve is huge and working with otheres is essential to success. If you play Axis and need a group to play with, give my squad a holler. We're on Text Channel 11 on teh Axis side. Just ask where the Iron Wolves are on Channel 11 and join in on the fun. You can click my sig for more information on us if you'd like.  :)

    In any case, Have Fun!

    Thanks.

I subscribed maybe an our ago, and like the usual me, i went straight online.

This was because offline mode lets you test vehicles and such, but doesnt tell you how to play. Since this is the downloaded version, it has no manual. I usual dont bother with manuals, even with the most complicated of games that requires dozens and dozens of button combinations,..trial and error, or in game help off peopl i feel is always the best and easiest way.

However when i logged on, i knew so little about anything in the game that doing this would be impossible, i saw maybe one person in game cos i didnt know what misions to choose or which area on the map to click, etc. Im currently printing off the online manual atm, hopefully that will shed some light on the game.

The graphics do seem to have improved alot. Still basic, but they are technically years ahead of what they were when i last checked. Although im having this problem where all flags appear yellow, and far away trees are yellow/red (change colour as you move) think thats just a texture problem as i have all settings on max.

I checked the website and they even do triaing sessions with ingame players as trainers, which i thoguht was fantistic, and showed jsut how deep and 'real to life' this game is. Therefore im going to try my best to learn how to play, however verticle the learning curve it :)

If you need help text channel 99 is the help channel.  Also type ".help" in text and that will explain some stuff like .m'ing people in game.  To add a channel open the chat box and click on one of the square boxes and type in the channel number.

As for the trees, if you have an ATI card you should go to the settings and make sure the trees arent rendered in enhanced mode (the nvidea one).  If that doesn't work you need to get the latest drivers for your card, that worked for me.  You can also customize your settings to only include certain things like muzzle smoke and stuff.

Here are some good videos that might answer a lot of your questions also. http://www.snoopstuff.com

I think for most of us that have played this game for almost three years it's the player/player cooperation in game that keeps us coming back. When you've sat in a treeline with 20 other tanks for 30 min waiting for the go signal from the commander to roll into an enemy town and suppress it, no other game will give you that rush you feel.

Plus when you realize there are other units in the area, infantry, bombers, fighters, AT guns, AA guns and more infantry all converging on the same objective it's worth the money to me. At the same time you see the axis players reactions to an attack like a Panzer Tank coloum spotted coming from behind the lines to reinforce the town under attck. The allies ajust and sent ethier tanks or bombs to try and stop them.

    Downsides

huge learning curve. Not so much the controls but once your in game where to go and what to do. Also the underbelly of the game like Research & Development and supply rules.

Example on supply. Each town hold a certain number of equipment, tanks, ATs, AAs, rifles, SMGs, trucks etc. Player A takes out a tank and gets killed. That tank will resupply to the Armybase it was taken from 3hrs after it left. The result is a huge attack on a town can attrit it down to nothing.

The flip side, players can take equipment from a town behind the lines and drive them to a frontline town. So we drive tanks and stock them up for attacks. This give the ability to have those 20 tanks hit a town.

The high commands is interesting too. Each side has one run by players/humans. As with humans nothing is perfect. :) The high commands to conrtol the research & development. At the beginning of each map we have a 1940 equipment starter set. Each side researchs equipment to add to the list. Example the FRench Army usually RDPs the stuart take first. The in game link is in the factories. Player flown BOmbers wings fly deep into enemy territoy and bomb thosec factories, delaying the RDP cycle. enemy air scrambles to try and get the bombers.

When you start following all the other stuf in the game, grafics aren't that bad. :)

Start there, there's an axis site too but dont have the link handy.

Ethier way I highly sugest a newcomer to join a good established squad. They will basicly train you and help to know where to go. After a few months you'll know where to go.
