Need help for a pvp set up.

mercadermercader Member Posts: 81

I am a new player, currently working my way to a covetor, and I am using mining as a way to earn money.

Also going to be getting my learning skills and cybernetics up first.

After that what ship do you think I should specialise into for pvp (I am gallente).

Also what support skills for that ship? Obviously I will go for MWD+cloaking and maybe some navigation+my chosen gunnery specialisiation but was wondering If I could get tips as to what is the best and quickest to go for to be useful.

Does not have to be a massive ship either, have read that small ships can be very useful.

I wouldn't worry about cloaking until you play the game long enough to understand its advantages and disadvantages. Interceptors are a very solid Low skill point High use ship, you need good Navigation skills, Propulsion Jamming skills, as well as the obvious fitting skills. After that T1 Electronic warfare ships can be easily skilled into and are fairly cheap to replace. The Celestis is a very useful ship as long as you use the proper scripts for the gang type your with.

The biggest thing is that early on you probably don't want to try to go the Damage/tank route till you get a bit older and you get more skill points stacked up in your weapon and tanking skills.

Interceptors arn't the easiest ship to get into as a noob and takes a long time to train. Most people these days seem to get straight into a battlecruiser which is basically just cruiser skills.

To fly a Battlecruiser effectively takes far longer than an interceptor and a battlecruiser is an easy kill with out the skills to back up the fittings. Interceptor takes about a month to learn and you can fly it effectively almost as soon as you can actually get into it. Battlecruisers require very good fitting skills as well as very good tanking/Cap skills in order to not lose it to a frigate. it may be a bit tougher then a Cruiser but it takes far more damage from battleships due to their large sig radius.

Eve is deceptive like that... I first got into a BC in under a month from starting, and a Battleship within 2.5 months.  I found out with both of them that while you can PVE with them with low skills (watch out for level 4's though) you can't really fly them well without many more months of training in other skills.  PVP requires that you fly a ship well, thats what your opponents will be spec'd for so if you focus on smaller ships first you'll be better off.

I have a friend who after a year of playing still only flies interceptors for the most part...and gets tons of kills all the time.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

That's a fact. After almost three years, my preferred PVP platform is without doubt the tackling interceptor or assault ship (assault ships are worse tacklers, but stay alive just a bit better). And it's about the first t2 ship I learned to fly well, which I did while I was still learning skills to fly my mission/ratting battleship well enough to do 0.0 ratting safely.

An inty uses a speed tank, which requires some skills from the player, mainly in controlling the ship at high speeds while under the lag problem, but it can be so satisfying to do. A Battlecruiser in PVP is also a support role ship, really, but it's more likely to either be locked in with the snipers (if in a fleet) to protect them, or, when used with high skills, as a damage dealer in small gang PVP.

I suggest going for the intys or for the new EW frigates, for first tastes of PVP. Other option is to use cheap t1 frigates and cruisers, because what you lose in ability you save in ISK. A well-fitted cruiser can do a lot of damage if it's handled well, even to t2-fitted ships, and you can fit a t1 frigate to tackle as well as an inty. You'll only lose a bit of speed and agility there.

Problem with interceptors is if you ever need to play alone because you can't group all the time then you're going to be completly useless as they don't do enough damage so really they're only used in groups to pin them down first. You'll have far more success training for BC's and they wont be a complete waste of time seeing as you'll need alot of the skills you trained for other ships too but not so much with interceptors.

For a short term ship Id suggest the Vexor (cruiser class). Its a very versatile ship in many aspects. Make sure u train drones/mechanics aside from the normal skills like gunnery, navigation etc that would aid your ship over all.

A bit further id look into the Myrmidon (battlecruiser class). Its basically the Vexor's bigger brother and its quite a great ship to use for pvp (yes even after the nerf....it trully was overpowered). Same skills would apply as above.

Further down id definatively look into Heavy assault ships (ishtar in particular). They are basically upgraded Vexors but with much more suvivability. HACs (while expensive) are very great choices to use in low sec and 0.0 due their agility and firepower.

Looks like some people didn't take in account what YOU mentioned you wanted to fly. There is no one way to pvp. There are tons of ships in every size.

If you like being sneaky when fighting, if you like cloaks, and MWD  then look into a Recon ship (Cruiser size), or a Covert op ship (smaller frigate size). Each race has a Combat model, and a sneaker squishier model. Like Cov Op have "Stealth bombers" and "Cov Op". The ships that are NOT the combat focused models can even WARP cloaked.

Don't worry so much about what race you are as to what ship you like best. Any race can fly any race.

Like others posted get interceptors for your first pvp ship, they are fast and great fun and gangs always need tacklers. plus they need a lot less SP than other ships to be effective and depending on the specific inty you could buy and fit 5+ of them for the cost of a properly equipped and rigged battle cruiser.

    Currently playing:

EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)

    Gravity Rush,
    Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

    (Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
    Company of Heroes II.

For a newer player who is still only learning the game I would say Thorax. It is cheap, has a great damage output and a huge potential for growth (and is arguably the best T1 cruiser in the game).

Like a lot of others said that there is a difference being able to fly a ship and being able to fly ship effectivly. So start small and work your way up, and Thorax is great starting point.
