Whether people have been using MMPORPG's to test and develop AI's capable of passing the Turin Test?
I was just thinking it would be the perfect place to try them out. Maybe that's what half the uBar-l33t kiddies really are!!
I suppose if they're any good then we wouldn't know. Does anyone (seriously or in jest) reckon they might have bumped into and spoken with one? I don't just mean bog-standard levelling/gathering Bots but attempts at proper AI's.

"Because he's only got one eye."

well lets think about this, if you did bump into a really good AI then you should never know it. The AI should be able to carry on a conversation that would never lead you to believe that it is indeed just a machine. Now if you bumped into a poor AI then you might know it but if people really are attempting to perfect AI on a MMORPG then you shouldn't know it at all. One of us could be an AI and you would never know it if the AI was done well enough...
Just some food for thought

True, but if you met one that was just in the testing/development phase it should be fairly obvious, although you'd probably assume that they were real people who weren't speaking their first language or were just plain wierd.
Would that count as passing the Turin Test? It shouldn't do, really. I know that it does in the sense that you haven't realised you're talking to an AI, but it's only because of your pre-conceptions, not because of the conversational abilities of the AI itself.
I still feel there must be some, it's just too fertile a testing ground to miss out on. Almost makes me wish I really knew what I was talking about
You know man, thank-you. Thank-you for an interesting post, instead of one of the "WoW is better then EQ2" or "reccomend an MMORPG please!" This one sparks interest in my brain and makes me think. Awesome job, maybe your right too. There are some people in MMORPGs who claim themselves as "Role Players" and they speak in such a proper language its rediculuous. Maybe you are right man, maybe. But if you are, then AI is alreayd too smart, and they win and we'll never figure it out!
