Does gaming qualify as a sport?  It would make the next olympics more interesting than previous years.

Supposedly not a whole lot.  Most of the money goes back into Vivendi's coffers.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Blizzard today very much reminds me of Nintendo in the 90-ies. Back then when it came to adventure gaming, nothing could touch The Legend of Zelda, when it came to platform action, nothing could touch Mario and even spin offs like Mario Kart dominated their respective genres.

I remembering many game companies tried to compete.  Sonic had its own style and fast furious action but overall its depth didn't come near that of Mario World/64.

Many action adventure games where also created, sometimes it seemed Sega launched a new Zelda clone every month, but none of them touched the level of quality and perfection that Nintendo achieved.

WoTLK and frankly the entire WoW series is pretty much like that. The next generation "Zelda" if you will (not in terms of gameplay, but certainly in terms of being ahead of competitors).

The new expansion is once again on a level of quality that is so high that you already know that no competitors will get near it the following couple of years.

I think the big difference here is volume.  Blizz has had the same 1 game out since 2004-ish and still going very strong.  Still selling, still monthly subscriptions.  Nintendo had to keep cranking out new and different games (and consoles) to renew interests.  I don't have satistical comparison, but they're the biggest boatload of monthly income I know of historically.
