Jagex: Ban happy?

SimiswimmSimiswimm Member Posts: 127

I have 8.1 black marks on my account. The problem is, none of them were even logical, never mind the fact they weren't true.

Let me give an example:

I was talking to someone. I asked what country he lived in, and he responded: Russia, then reported me. Mmkay, yes, I'm going to search through the largest country in the world and find him and stalk him. Very logical. I would probably die from old age before I found him. My appeal was denied.

So my question is: Is Jagex trying to kill their game and company on purpose? They have been making the crappiest updates and banning everyone they get a report on. Their average number of players has been cut from 300,000 to 160,000. way to go Jagex, you've effectively cut your population in half. That's a loss of... oh... somewhere around... 5 million dollars a month?

Aka 60 million a year!

Ownd.

Edit: For those of you that wish to disprove my math, My calculation is this:

Jagex stated they have 1,000,000 member accounts. Assuming half quit, 500,000x5 dollars a month is 2.5 million dollars. That leaves us with the approximately 5 million non-member accounts. assuming they make 50¢ per player, from ad revenue, that's another 2.5 million dollars a month. Though the price of members is stable, this works. But the ad revenue is based on the number of clicks on an ad and is also limited to a certain IP to prevent click bombing to gain more revenue. In addition, there's an unknown amount of stable pay to Jagex for the people that don't click the ad, but the ad still is viewed, so they are paid for just that.

This makes ad revenue more unstable, so my calculation could be very far off in this case. Then again, maybe not.

-----

If you're going to ban every player that appeals, why allow them to appeal at all?

alot of people tend to forget that the main reason that alot of the popultaion is gone is bacause alot of the gold framers have left. I do beleive that they are slacking a bit but i dont beleive there 'trying' to kill there game. It has to do more with there custimer support being to small for such a large population. They dont respond to any ban appeals becuase they feel that things like tech support are more important. Most things how ever are just respawned to with automated messages that dont really help much. Jagex has expanded so fast that they are unable to manage there game properly anymore.

Also, they have been focusing hard on removing goldfarmers from the game. The gold selling companies have been making almost double the amount of money as jagex.

"alot of people tend to forget that the main reason that alot of the popultaion is gone is bacause alot of the gold framers have left."

I can tell you this: There may have been many gold farmers, but I doubt 140,000 were on every day. I know this because all but 17 of my friends have quit. They are all over level 90 so the only ones left on my list are a couple of lvl 20-60's and only one lvl 97. He is planning to quit next month.

I had 200 friends, and after the update, 17.

I was formerly a Runescape Player Moderator, and was kicked out due to these bogus reports. I report everyone that was a macro to this day, so I can assure you, my other 183 friends were not macros.

They haven't cut their members in half. It's more like 20%.

And no, they are NOT trying to kill the game on purpose. The "evidence" you listed is due to bad customer support and bad quality assurance.

Sooo... tell me this: If it's not cut in half, why are only approximately half as many players playing as before? Besides, how do you contest to the fact that only 17 of my friends are left? And yes, they were all active except for maybe 5-10.

Real great, but why ruin the second most popular MMORPG online?

A good percentage of my posts are sarcastic, and I was just saying they are stupid for ruining for whatever reason they may have. Weather it is mechscape or freemoneyscape i don't care. It's just dumb.

    That made me chuckle.

Just because you like the game. Does not mean that it's "the most popular". In fact, it is quite unpopular. The fact the player base is so high is because its free to play (unless you were talking about the people who actually pay for that game, heaven help them).

That's true. It isn't the second most popular, only the second most accounts. My mistake.

LOL.  this is incorrect the majority of the population decrease is because of  POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Gold farmers actually made up a very small percentage of the paying members, they were more prevelant in f2p. The loss in members is in law abiding players  because of the poor decisions made by JAGEX. They alienated clans, families,  pures, and pkrs with the recent updates and we all left. They lost 10 memberships from my family alone, and I know of hundreds of players that were my friends that left over the bad updates. We are playing better games now where we can trade with each other, help each other, and if i want to run and get a drink and come back i am still logged in and nothing killed me.

The reason why alot of lower levels do not notice the decrease in population of actual players is because they did not participate in high level clan events, they did not have friendships for years with other players, they did not spend most of their time in the wilderness . I was 122 on there and had a range mage pure as well. I was a clan leader, a pkr, and a friend to many players that had played since beta. That was where they lost players. the people who had stood by them through everything throughout the years. Those players are the ones that left over the nonsense. Those players were the ones most affected by the updates because high level players gave high level gifts. If i can't give my friend a santa i don't see the point in earning pixel gold  at all.  I am currently playing games where i can trade freely with my friends and family. I had enough of their nonsense.  Runescapes rules are one of the biggest downfalls of the game.  People play games to have fun and relax not be ruled to death. Other games are not as strict, I don't even think there is a chat filter on guild wars, but then you never see anyone spam.. it is amazing how that happens lol.

RuneScape is the second most popular MMO online, as it has been for many years.

And Jagex has not lost anywhere close to 50% of their members.

And Devilicious, the only reason you made money in the game was to give it to other players? I'm not going to make fun of you about it, but just to tell you, that's not something that the vast majority of the player base felt.

Strict rules are no fun, I agree. They would be a lot more lenient if the game wasn't so kid-friendly (and if Jagex didn't put the game on Miniclip). But there's a lot more to a game than its rules.

What you seem to fail to understand is that I played the game for years and had everything I wanted for myself on the game, so all there was left for me to do now was help other people get what they needed on the game. The majority of the players now have not played long enough to have already worked for  all the levels and items they wanted on the game, so I guess when they finally get there there will be nothing left for them to do either.  Runescape does not reward you for your levels, just more suffering. I could care less now though I am happy playing other games... and do not miss runescape =)

Most people think Runescape is good until they try another game.  For me, it was Knight online and then Kal online.  Both games are 100% free.. Play them if you havent and are lookin for an introduction into the MMO world.

If you know anything about "goldfarmers" then you will know that they use stolen credit cards to pay for membership (I'm not just talking about Runescape, most MMOs are plagued by them).  They get those card details from people who buy from them.

Jagex banning the goldfarmers wouldn't have effected subscriber numbers since those cards would have been refunded and most likely banned from their system anyway.

But the 300,000 part they deserved it. Did you read my "Runescape Holiday Events Getting Boring". WTF they gave us a cape for Easter this year.

So yeah i think Jagex is wrking really hard to bankrup the game.

I don't think they are intentionally killing their game. Why would anyone intnentionally kilk their game. But they do seem to be doing an excellent job of killing it. I agree that they are becoming more ban happy. I know about 12 people that got banned for no apparent reason. I myself got muted for typing "????"  I guess they thought it was spam. I just type question marks instead of asking " What are you talking about?"

But I don't see this game lasting another 4 years unless some major changes take place. Stop alienating all of your veteran players Jagex!!!!!!!!!!!!

has anyone ever actually been banned for a real reason?

  • ZtyXZtyX Member UncommonPosts: 367

I sure as hell haven't. I'm a veteran player myself. Lvl 119 and I have been thrown around in that game like nowhere else.. The game is really good, but the customer support is so goddamn evil! They don't care about the individual. They ban and mute and then permanent ban you... Anyone who has finally established themselves in that game and gotten through the grinding and reached a point where it is fun to play will get banned sooner or later. it's inevidable with the way they work. .. You can't meet people in there because you risk getting banned. So it's hard to get real friends... It is so frustrating.

No its a matter of Privacy Laws remember the player base are children and they have the game international

So yeah they dont have a choice they have to inforce non disclosurer of personal info and take measures againist players seeking personal info from their player base as they are mostly children

Again its a matter of laws

In the US you got the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and i dont know about the other countries but alot have them

    5. telling a guy to "go shave his back" after he follows you around for 30 min asking you to be his gf.

    6. for telling people to go look at rune hq for quest help.

    8. for being a clan leader and your clan always kills the other clan in battle.
