The Witcher in my opinion is a tad bit different from your standard rpg.  The controlls have been done a bit differently where you have to time your mouse clicks to properly execute the chains of attacks.  When I played it I found it interesting.  There seems like plenty to do but I only got into it a little bit partly because the computer I was running it on was somewhat lacking so the performance was a bit shoddy.

When I get a computer that's a bit better equiped to handle the newer crop of games comming out I'll definately pick it up again and play it.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Crysis - Run around and shoot in one of the laggiest experiences ever.
Witcher - Have sex with Vampires and save the world if you want to.

Hmm I might have to check that out!

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Everyone go try The Witcher...challenging, fun, and soon to have persistent world technology like NWN...and probably the most gorgeous PC based RPG this year...
It truly deserved it's award for being an underdog, coming from nowhere, and being a work of love...it shows..

QFT!  The Witcher is quite possibly the most fun I've had in any game in the last 2-3 years.  It does an excellent job of getting a person to really think about the consequences of their actions (unlike Oblivion where most of your choices don't have a significant impact on the world).

The way the story contains adapted versions of a lot of our modern day political, religious and social issues adds a sense of realism that you don't find in most fantasy games.

Thank God for patch 1.2 this week... loading and saving times are no longer an issue.

Agreed...Patch 1.2 made my day...and I have been playing this game on and off, alternating with my other passion..EQ2..and playing on my new 56" HD-Ila TV (this years Christmas present).

The games presentation, and various quests...like the Autopsy, or the Drunken Bar Fighting and playing dice...deciding to help humanity or the downtrodden elves and dwarves who are subjucated to racial slurs..awesome...now imagine that setting multiplayer style...with the persistent world addon coming...should be the best,,

It makes for a wonderful Christmas weekend

    Cheers

Witchers were monster slayers. You are Geralt, one of the few ones left.  You don't remember a thing... Your desicions shape the world that you are part of. It is a game of moral decisions and not only.

You gain powers through alchemy and magick. Alchemy knowledge is gained from reading books, you meditate and you acquire skills after you have reached a certain experience point.

You can fight in bars for money and play dice poker and get drunk. A nice rose or a diamond ring can take you to bed with many girls of the world. A nice loaf of bread can make a grandma tell you a nice fairy tale and the cool part about it is that most of them are not quest givers.

The game is also time based and if you are not in the right place the right time you may miss an event. Most of combat happens at night unless you are in one of the many dungeons. To use combat witcher skills you must use swords. There are to kinds of swords, Steel swords and silver swords. Each sword has 3 main skill categories. Strong Steel, Fast Steel and Group steel. Combining these skills adds strategy to the gameplay and every weapon can be enhanced through blade coatings and other ways...

In a few words it is a 50 you will not regret at all.

The Witcher, in my opinion, was a much NEEDED addition to my RPG library since my passion and interests of MMOs have been crashing in a spiral chaotic path of destruction (well...not that bad but you get my point).

This game is great. If you haven't gotten it, I would suggest getting it.  It's pretty funny, but this is a game that just wasn't advertised well. I never heard of it until ingame in EQ2.  I picked it up a couple days ago and I just love it.

A very different RPG, but well worth the 50 bucks.

Thanks OP. This sounds like an interesting game.

Doing a little research on it I noticed that the US version is censored while every other country's versions are not.

Even though the game is rated M and has a big age 18+ sticker on it, apparently the US version has blurred out the nipples and genitals of the creatures that appear in the game.

In a way the choice to blur out the sexual content of this game while not blurring out the violence, gore, murder and sadism is more perverse than leaving it in.

I mean really, what is the point?  It's some misguided attempt to stop kids from being exposed to sexual content, right?  Well then what kind of message are they getting when they see a game where sex is obscured but violence is not?  Violence is more acceptable than sex?

I would suggest checking the Witcher official website forums  for some links to buying the uncensored version... not because you are desperate to see some animated humping but because maybe you don't want a demented Puritan pre-screening the content you see.  Anyway I'll stop the rant here and keep the focus on the game which looks great by the way... you can buy the uncensored version from UK gaming sites and some people said that Fry's carries both the UK and US version.   I might have to check this one out as well.

Edit: Just FYI - The reason it was censored in the US version is because it would have received an AO rating, which in turn would have caused drastically lower sales since most major retailers here won't carry AO titles.

Americans are so boring. We hippies and sex fanatics over in Europe are much funnier. I mean what fun is Witcher if you remove the vampire sex thing?

I wish the Canadians went the way of Europe in regards to censorship.  Originally a European by birth I had to move here due to war.  As much as I enjoy life here there are a thing or two I'd change, censorship being one of them.  I mean we're still part of the English monarchy.  The queen is on our money.

I wish something ridiculous like Canada joining the European Union was possible but that's so far out of the way of possibility.  I hope in the future I have options of purchasing my games as European versions.  Maybe that will show the industry or the people censoring and rating things a thing or two.

Regarding the game itself, I think it's great.  It plays well and has features not found in other games that impact you quite vividly.  As soon as I upgrade my comp I'm gonna install it all over again and play it.  It should keep me occupied till Age of Conan drops

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
