The Xbox 360 Sux

Cpt.StubbingCpt.Stubbing Member Posts: 269

The Xbox 360 is a piece of crap. I asked the man at the store, will this play regular Xbox games? He said yes if you download the  updates. I said "Thats ok we will just get 360 games then." Guess what, you have to have updates to PLAY 360 GAMES. Some of them anyway. Lego Star Wars is at least one. This is fine if you can readily attach the damn thing to the internet, but if you cant, its gonna make you wanna jump off a bridge.

SO for people out there like me who want NOTHING to do with the internet on your GAME FREAKIN CONSOLE dont get one.

Its almost 2008. If all you have is dial up, you cant consider yourself a true gamer.

Well every next generation console now has something to do with the web, even the ps3 has to connect to the net to play some games I think ( or it may be just to patch somethings) , and the wii  I have no clue about. besides I thought every household had Internet currently, but I guess I was wrong.

You COULD jump off a bridge, or subscribe to xbox magazine which has pretty much all the major updates on the demo discs that come with it.  Just an idea that might be a little more practical.  $25 Magazine Subscription sounds much better than dealing with hospital bills and insurance companies.

P.S. don't play Lego Star Wars its not worth it, go out and get Oblivion or Mass Effect.

It's the same for ps3. There are a few updates for it that vastly improves the 6 axis controls etc.

    Thread moved.

(Also no xbox360-game requires an update, only xbox-games for backwards-compatibility update).

SO you CAN get the updates on a disk? THATS not so bad I guess. It just makes me mad that the updates for the game do not come on the disk you pay so much for.

I have cable, I just didnt get one of them there WIRELESS connectors. (In my home the cord is impractical+I got it almost brand new from a friend and he didnt put that back in the box I guess cause I dont have one) I see your point I just dont think I should have to pay for internet access on my NINTENDO or PLAYSTATION. Lemme emphasis HAVE TO. I like the fact you would have the choice to do so, I just dont think it should be mandatory. BUT THEN I dont think to get the updates you would have to pay extra do you? I mean beyond your own access to the net.

But its not a PC. Its a console. I didnt buy a console to get on the internet thats why I have a PC. What really makes me mad about it isn't the updating its the fact that my kids have like 3 NEW 60 dollar games they can't play. What if if some poor kid saved all his nickels and dimes to get one of these things but has NO way of EVER getting on the net. Im just saying I pay 400 bucks for a console and 180 bucks for games kids should be able to play it NP. I pay that much for a PC I expect that sorta thing I understand it. Especially building it myself. Doe that make more sense to yall? You get what Im saying?

ALTHOUGH, Superman Returns works just fine and it KICKS BUTT. My kids were good at Mortal Kombat so they are are WAY better than I am but still...

I totally get what your saying Captain Stubbing.  Also I appreciate how you broke the quotes into seperate posts, it really helps read-ability.

Personally, I think this generation of Consoles is trying too hard.  The Wii is the only console that got it right.  The consoles tried to be Media Centers, but in reality it upped the price tag and doesn't really have the hardware in it for what you would want out of a Media Center.  Not to mention all the extra costs packed into the XBox360 like XBox Live or forced to subscribe to XBox Magazine.

I have an Xbox 360. I love it

    I have a Wii. I love it.

I have both connected to the internet.

The one main thing that people use their consoles for is online gaming now. I play plenty of online games on my consoles, but also just as many single player games that are just as fun. The other reason for having your console connected to the internet is to not only receive updates for the system, but also patches for the games. Same thing w/ a computer when you DL new drivers or a patch. A console is a computer inside a different case. That's all. Granted it's not worth it to try to use your console as a PC 'cuz they make bad ones, but still. So ya, having your console connected to the Internet is pretty handy becuase those updates they have you DL in order to play the game are fixes and changes to make the gameplay better and more enjoyable for the user.

    Some suggestions:

-Move your modem/router closer to the Xbox

-Move your Xbox closer to the modem/router

-Run a long ethernet cable to your Xbox

I have a 50ft ethernet cable running across my basement to the my Xbox. Of course it's only like 20 ft so I have plenty of slack and it's in my basement so no one really cares ^_^

I'd really suggest against buying the $100 wireless receiver b/c 1) it's $100 and 2)having a wired connection provides better speeds of course

    Jeff Dunham: So you're Muslim?
Achmed the Dead Terrorist: I don't think so.
Jeff Dunham: You don't think you're Muslim?
    Achmed the Dead Terrorist: No.
    Jeff Dunham: Why not?
Achmed the Dead Terrorist: Look at my ass. It says: "Made in China".

Thank You so much. I break them into seperate posts so that everyone knows Im responding to them personally. This is the BEST community of gaming in general I think. Most everyone is helpful and funny. I really enjoy this site.

I dont mind consoles connecting to internet, I dont mind big corps. makin money. I happen to be a capitalist PIG-DOG myself. Im just saying dont force it on me or others who don't want that. And I think your absolutly right. I hadn't really thought of that but before the PS2 consoles were a measly 100 bucks and the games just plain worked when you put them in. So much for the simplicity of the game console.

I get that. Dont get me wrong. In reality I Like the Xbox 360. It has games I could not otherwise play and my kids love the thing. And your right , we saw the price of the wireless thingy and Nooooooooo Waaaaay. So we got a 50 ft ethernet cord and problem solved. I just dont wanna be downloading pathes and updates all the time.

BUT answer me this- Can you get those patches and updates on disks that come with the magazine?

But there again I would still be forced to buy something or subscribe to something i do not really want. But I'll take it cause I actually like some gaming mags.

I wish I had a basement now tho LOL.

Also my friend brings his Wii over to play every now and then. He does ALL of his interneting on it and uses my wireless router while he here. Everyone seems to happy with them I just miss the simplicity is all.

While I understand and do respect what you are saying, you should try to understand that half of the reason to own an Xbox 360 is for the online playability and content (via XBox Live).

Many titles require updates to their code, to address issues that could not be fixed prior to the title going gold and manufactured/distributed - This is what makes the Xbox Live service so very valuable (among other significant reasons, such as downloading new and free content for your games, etc). Not that this is an excuse, I'm just explaining what you probably already know yourself.

All of this being said, however, I would agree that ANY game for ANY console should work right-out-of-the-package, without any downloads, updates, or internet connectivity. Is this ideal? Clearly, no. However, it should not be required in order to enjoy a title.

    Edit:

Also, as I saw above, yes, you can get updates, content, and downloads, for free, off the official Xbox magazine disk that is included - I used to get these monthly for my old Xbox and loved it (debating it for my 360 Elite). It may not address your personal issue, however, they do push out a good amount of content monthly on those disks.

why would anyone want to not hook a 360 to the internet?  xbox live and patches for games are two of the reasons i hooked it up.  talk to anyone about mass effect.  we are all waiting for a patch to fix the disc unreadable errors.

I dont wanna play MMOs on my console. I play them on my CPU. But I am glad people can, it seems the MMO genre in general is coming within reach of everyone when you think about it tho. Consoles, though not cheap, are certainly less expensive than a top of the line CPU. And the consoles real purpose is to play games. I choose not to go online with mine. And I dont think I should have to.
