What Do You Get Without the Subscription?

I was wondering what you get if you play the game for free. I noticed that you could pay a subscription and for the game itself, but what difference does this make (with expansions, content, etc.)? Also, when you play for free, do you need to buy the game or is it free along with the subscription?

The game can be downloaded for free as well as played for free, no need to even flash a credit card in registration.  You essentially get the game as it was prior to the Shadowlands expansions, though recent patches have started to add nifty content to the free section of the game.  Without expansions there are some playfields you cannot enter and areas of growth and development your characters cannot partake in.  But the planet of Rubi-Ka, as a whole, as available.  Just last patch they added in a bunch of new tradeskill weapons that substantially improve on what fr00bs (free players) can wield (they are essentially watered -down Kyr'Ozch weapons in various classical weapons meshes).
