No, no player-owned structures that are disputed at release, unless they are keeping a massive secret from us, something I very much doubt.

Could it happen in the future in an expansion? Maybe. I doubt it, though.

Each capital city will be able to be sieged and captured, but only for a short while, then things will, for all intents and purposes, reset and the battle begins anew.

edit: RvR areas will apparently have areas one can control for bonuses, though. Not exactly the same as taking something over an owning it, but I guess it is close enough.

yeah, people much prefer to fight like hell to gain something in the game and then have the game itself reset everything, taking away everything you worked for. Oh wait, thats essentialy what you said. So why did they make a game the slaps players with futility? At least if it were all player controlled you'd have a fighting chance to keep what you've earned.

Hmm, not sure about that one. I'd personally think it'd pretty awesome to fight for you home (your home doesn't have to be a highly maintained home... just something extra in the conquerable cities/towns), and would also be nice to destroy other people's homes.

"Attacking <player name>'s home!" -and on the flip-side- "Your home is being attacked by <player/guild name>" "Your home has been destroyed by <player/guild name>" muahahahaha.

The question would then become what function those player homes serve. If the answer is none (but fun to have one and have enemies attack it or attack someone else's ) then after the novelty wears off  no one will use it, thus makign it a waste of resources and dev time. If on the other hand those houses server some more or less important purpose, then people will whine when their house gets destroyed when they weren't even logged on.

It's not a bad idea per say, it's just a bad idea given the direction mythic is taking war. That being an easy to get into rvr for your realm with some personal bonuses, but no personal loss (though realm loss. Kind of the same thing as daoc.

If WAR had guild keeps like AoC, I'd be on it like white on rice.

Funny thing is they are going to be 2 completely diffrent games, so if  WAR was like AoC everyone would just buy what comes out first, or what IP they prefer. Personally I dont know the lore to either, and did as much research as is out on each, and I am going to prefer the WAR style over the AoC style. That said there are likes and dislikes in both games for me....

O yeah and you love it when youre on the lossing end out #.  If one side has more people then the other they could easily hold the capital for ever.  That would deture alot of people from playing the game and thoes that still play would switch fractions or move servers making that one unbalanced and pointless to PvP on.  You obviously dont know much about this game or any MMO.

I could have sworn I saw a post by a dev on the Warhammer Alliance forums were a dev said the next podcast will deal with Guild housing/halls. That very same podcast is the one that was not done on time or whatever excuse they used and it ended up being Paul talking for some length of time about something.

Maybe they got canned, no approved by marketing, or whatever. I also thought I heard something about displaying your guild flags and symbols on gaurds of captured objectives.

The problem with defending your home was shown in SWG in the old days with trying to defend your base. People would just make a toon of your faction sit around and find out when no one was around and trash it.

People like to ruin other peoples fun, plain and simple. Unless I can hire level 80 (and yes I know pc's can't get that high, and thats my point) to guard my house, then I want no part of it. That would be a major downside to any game. Why should I work my ass off, so some kid in China can break into my house and steal my stuff just so he can sell it to another guy?

I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.

In AoC u are not require to attack anyone just b/c u own a keep and ppl will just sit at their own keeps doing nothing for hours b/c keeps have a certain time that can be attacked.  But in WAR u must take over certain objects to gain pts so u are force to fight for them even if they are heavily defended.  Tell me which one will be more fun?

I like the idea of disputed structures or areas, but, since WAR is a EA Mythic RvR(tm)-based game and if DAoC is a model of that, then I would hardly expect to see player or guild-owned property to fight over.

I believe that you will see that AoC is approaching PvP in a guild-based way, but WAR comes at it from a realm-based way.

Realm pride, realm defense, realm competition.  That will be the focus.

And also a special focus on killing Greenskins who will die like suffering pig-dogs in Hell!

(Oh, crap.  I wasn't gonna say that again -- it just slipped out.  )

i like the way the have done PVP for WAR. making spits in the PVP zone that can be captured for bonuses and such its interesting

Two things to keep in mind:

    - While you most likely can't hold a city captured forever, you can prolong the time you have control over it. The game won't "reset" the capital as soon as you sacked it, it will just make it harder and harder for you to keep it until you're finally driven out, only then will the game reset. This will still need player participation from the side that got its capital sacked.

    - Sacking a capital rewards the attackers with some of the best loot the game has to offer, therefore people will want to sack a city (the fun is another thing) the longer you can hold the city, after you sacked it the better the loot. Likewise getting your capital sacking will have a negative impact on its economy (venders etc.) which will increase the longer the city remains in your emeies hands, so you will not only want to avoid its sacking but, should it be sacked, want to retake it as fast as possible.

And no, they have said nothing about player/faction owned castles and I don't believe we will see them, at least not at release. As for areas, your faction can gain control over zones (that's the whole point of WAR's RvR). We don't know how this will be reflected in the zone itself though.

The has not been much on guilds, even less on guild houses/halls, and individual player housing will most certainly not be in coming release.

I think there will be guild controled areas .. which doesn't mean a whole lot believe me.
