How soon do you join a Guild?

I have a theory but I might be totally off base so I am hoping to get some 'guidance' from others.

How soon do you wait to join a Guild when you start a new MMO?

Me? Well if its a PVP Server I join day #1 (whether it be WoW, Asian MMO, EVE, etc). maybe im the biggest coward on the planet but the more 'danger' I perceive I am in the more likely I am to cooperate with others. Plus I love to receive free gifts like armor and weapons from crafters. Plus if I get ganked I want to have friends I can call on to help me get revenge if I got done real wrong

Okay, if its a PVE Based MMO well I try to find a Guild ASAP. Why? WEll MMORPG is so boring too me solo haha. Much more interesting to have a Guild with high levels that can help ya level. Plus it just so nice to be connected and share loot you know. even in WoW was always touching when a guildmate shared an Epic piece of gear they knew I wanted

Well, in time I learned to search for a Guild day #1. In EVE I really hated the newbie corp so much with all the spam. Was so glad when I found a corp and they escourted me to 0.0 where I made a living

I fall into the "other" category. The last two guilds I was in were pre-launch guilds that I joined about 1 year before launch. In both cases, the group became close and active on the boards with over 40K in posts generated by a few hundred registrants and about 50 members. Unfortunately, in both cases the high-water mark was achieved right before launch (Horizons and Vanguard, need I say more).

As for a game that I am already playing, I just let the chips fall where they may. Some games such as UO and Earth & Beyond, I stumbled onto exceptional guilds after a month or two of playing while other games such as Asherons Call and EQ2 I played unguilded.

On average I start looking within a day or two. In some games it obviously more important to get guilded then others. For example in L2 / FFXI its of paramont importance to get into a good guild ASAP while in WoW, unless you are interested in raiding it pretty much doesn't matter.

But as a whole I feel MMOs are pretty damn rotten RPGs and the only redeeming quality they have is the communities. You sure don't play them for the quest and content becasue generally speaking, they suck compared to actual RPG's. I don't play them for the grind, thats for sure. MMO AI's are about as challenging as throwing rocks at the wall so skill or difficulty are gone. They are combat centric so diversity of gameplay is out the window... the technical quality of most western made MMOs is pretty much unfinished and buggy crap... Doesn't leave them with a whole lot...

I'm always looking for a friendly guild to join but they can be very hard to find.

Most guilds that I have come into contact with are run like a company with the guild leader being the CEO and you being the newly employed pushover.
