Stat Cap from Items...

Sorry for not knowing the exact mechanics of WoW, but in DAoC the stats worked with a "stat cap". That is, you could only hit a certain cap from your items (+101 str, +30% resist, etc) , and then to go over that you had Realm Abilities.

From what i hear in WoW, the problem was that there was NO stat cap from items, and thus someone with rediculous +s on items could have some rediculous amount of a stat.

Any word on the system of WAR?

What do you like better? Personally i thought the DAoC system was awesome, it allowed you to create templates based on utility and you could mix in all sorts of armors.

Wow is a pve game based on endless gear progression, it can't be emdless if there are stat caps, thus no caps. Which of course destroys any balance in pvp due to the fact there is never an equal playing field to even compare classes (ie, mage with 600+ damage vs mage with 1200+ damage, not really even the same class as far as balance goes)

Daoc had stat caps, which assured that there is a lvl playing field, it also limited advantage one could get from a super template compared to an alright one (super templates were still better, but you would never lose and think you lost because of gear.. well, arti timer dumps but that's a different topic)

War, sadyl, is going with no hard caps like daoc, but will be using soft stat caps. It remans to be seen how that pands out, however, theoretically soft stat caps can work just as well as hard caps, just as long as they are reasonably easy to reach, and not something that matters only when you get the uber equipment.

I would prefer if war went with hard caps like daoc (because hard caps work) but going with soft caps can still work, but would need to see how easy it is to reach those caps and how steep diminishing returns are to decide if it would work as well as daoc's system or if gear would be more important.
