Dominant classes?

mangarmangar Member UncommonPosts: 296

I am giving this game another try and am curious if those of you at higher levels have noticed a trend of dominant classes emerging from the pack?

I have invested time in other games building a toon just to find out that it is basically useless or considered inferior to another class.  and really do not want to make the same mistake here.  I currently have a War, DK, and monk all arround level 20 and feel that I need to focus on only one as my main toon and at level 20 it is not to late to re-roll so if there is a class that I missed please let me know.

I prefer to tank or meele DPS and have found so fat that a warior with crafted +STR gear seels to be a healty ballance but I have no clue what later levels hold for me.

Please advise

    My 2 cents is that within the Tank archtype DKs and Pallys are superior to Warriors. (Lots of whining about Warrior balance on official forums), and personally I think DKs are the best getting into higher levels.

    As far as melee dps goes imo Bard's stand out as being the best at higher levels (sooooo much utility, personally I'm always wanting a Bard when forming a dungeon group), Rangers and Rogues are both strong and offer a lot to groups, and Monks stand out as being the weakest.

    I should mention though that if you find a particular class enjoyable, you should play that class. There is no class that is useless or obsolete 40+, just that some seem to have a harder time soloing and offer slightly less in group situations. I have NEVER witnessed a toon not being invited to a group because they were a 'weak' class within their archtype.

    DK and Pali for tanks ... that is odd.  Typically in these hybrid classes have issues since they need to spread their atributes among more abilities than the run of the mill warior.

    I guess I will run with my DK unless others have better suggestions.

    A warrior is absolutely the best tank that a group can ask for. Most of their problems come stem from the fact that they don't contribute as much to a group utility wise as one of the knight classes and that they are poor soloers in comparison.

    Why?

    What makes a Warior dominant?

    As a bloodmage (healer), I have found that DK's seem to take damage very well, yet, don't seem to hold aggro as well as a warrior. So when I play with a DK I find myself healing other group members more often, with a warrior, I stick to the tank. I haven't played with many paladins, but it seems their big skill is in rescues, so they may not hold aggro as well as a warrior, but they can get the mob back quickly. This should make them excellent off-tanks too.

    This is just observation though, I can't promise that every tank I played with knew their class and was playing it optimally. But there does seem to be a trend.

    And as others have said, there seem to be some remaining balancing issues, so all of this could change, depending on how things are 'fixed'.

    DK is the best tank.

    BM is the best healer.

    Cleric is the best class.

    All IMO of course, but coming from the FFA server you quickly learn which classes can do what :P

    It's all very situational and depends so much on equipment and how the individual plays their character.  But, I'd want a warrior in my group all else being equal.

    I play a lvl 43 Paladin and my wife is a Lvl 41 Warrior.  We have duoed most of the way to where we are now.

    That being said....The warrior class by far out performs the Paladin when it comes to strait out tanking the mob and does very good at dealing damage.  However, the Warrior class can NOT solo very well and must have a support class (healer) in order to advance in the higher levels.

    Paladins are the kings of snap aggro though.  I have 3 resuces with a 10 second refresh timer (Warriors have 2 rescues with a 1 min refresh).  All 3 of these allow me to pull aggro instantly from my defensive target at any point during the fight.  If the warrior does loose aggro then they can always count on the Paladin to pick it up and hold it until they can regain it.  Paladins are a very solid solo plate class as well.  I have the ability to heal/buff myself.....when it comes to survivabilty Paladins are king again.  If I do get into trouble, I can make myself immune to damage for up to 10 seconds, snare the mob and slow their movement by 75% and then leash the mob.  It is very hard to Kill a paladin if there is an escape route around.

    Paladins are very much an "Oh Sh**" class.  Meaning when things go wrong we have alot of utilties and abilities to keep everyone alive and control the mobs until it can be righted.  And in the time of need we can spend saved up Virtue points to be an absolute MONSTER for a 5 min period.  These virtue abilites increase the base of all stats for the entire group and allow the paladin to go into a Enrage mode...but with virtue points be regened at 1 per hour......and a cost of 15-20 points to Enrage....you don't see it very often.

    Honestly, if you plan to group mostly (and groups are easy to get these days since the servers merged), any of the 3 tank classes will do fine. They each bring something to a group. If you like to solo though, go with a pally of DK. Warriors have no way to heal themselves in combat or snare/root etc. a mob so they struggle badly in solo situations. They shine in groups though.

    But since groups are so easy to get these days, play the class you like most. Or since the 3 you have are all around level 20 now, play them up to around 26, that's really when you start to get a feel for what they can do.

    DK -> Pally -> Warrior -> Monk

    Bard->Ranger->Rogue

    Cleric ->Shaman->Druid->Dirt->Disciple

    There are no dominant classes, just dominant players. Play what you want to play and get to know the character's class strength and weaknesses. With time and getting good gear you'll be lethal. Now I'm not the best pvper, but I have gotten my @ss handed to me by all classes within my lvl range and vice versa. Don't worry about what's better? Cas' a update can change all of that, that's what mmos do. From what I gathered, you would fit a DK nicely.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone it is really appreciated.

    While I agree that all classes have value provided they are played well I am more concerned with the social stigma that class A is better then class B and I do believe that I have gotten my answer from your posts.

    Thanks all!
