Does anyone here even play SWG anymore? (POLL)

zide56zide56 Member Posts: 356

Besides TookyG, En1Gma, and thegravyboat, is there anyone here who is even playing this "game" anymore?  I would absolutely love to know how many people are actually playing this game total.  I bet it's dangerously low.  They'll probably cancel the expansion because no one wants to buy more bugs and hollow content.

SWG has gone down the tubes--and it's barely even a year old.  How sad.  Can't say I care, though.  image

Zide56 is way way way off base in his assessment of the game. People looking for impartial reviews of the game should look elsewhere as he is on some sort of vendetta against SOE.

There's an old saying - "You can't please everyone"

With Star Wars Galaxies, it seems SOE went out on a limb and developed a mmorpg that was different enough from Everquest and the rest so that players could enjoy a new experience with a mmorpg.

Well, I have.  I thoroughly enjoy it.  I have played since release and although I have taken time away, it was really only to try out other new mmorpgs, not because I am not satisfied by SWG.

I think SWG does have it's problems, however, but not so much that it deserves the bad rap it gets here.  The thing that always makes me feel better is this:

Star Wars Galaxies is a roleplayers game.  it looks as if it was designed with roleplayers in mind.  I enjoy roleplying and it's the major feature I look for in a mmorpg.  If Everquest had the roleplaying opportunities that SWG has, I would have never left it.  I think SWG lets anyone jump right into the Star Wars Universe and experience an immersive galaxy while enjoying combat, crafting, exploration, and socialization.  To me, SWG has it all (although it may not have done it all as well as could be).

I am proud to be a player and I have no intention of ever leaving for good, at least until I try Everquest II   :)

Yeah, delete my post.  See if I care.  The fact is, Hrnac made a completely off the wall statement, and he's just being presumptuous.  He obviously has never read anything I've written about this game.  I've written some huge reviews about SWG, explaining why I hate it.  And yet he still feels he has the right to refer to my opinions as "partial".

In the future, Hrnac, do some research before making stupid comments.

  • LuRaviLuRavi Member UncommonPosts: 239

Dood they are not going to cancel the expansion.

Lets not talk about who is making outlandish statements with that comment.

I am not subscirbed to SWG but I was in beta 3, got fooled went and bought it on release day didn't last my 30 free days actually fooled the guy at EB to give me full refund, and never uninstalled it on my HDD after I returned it and was fool enough to pay for a month around last December for one month, and quit again.

I used the word "impartial" and was referring to your recent string of negative posts. It is fine to bash SOE and SWG, but continuing on and on and on after you have quit the game serves little purpose. I think most people know how you feel by now and most probably could care less since your opinions are yours and yours alone.

I think everyone agrees that SWG needs some work, but the main difference between most of us and you is how we go about communicating our viewpoints. Well thought out rational posts detailing the games deficiencies along with proposed solutions will always get better results versus some insignificant poll and some off the wall statements. Do you really think SOE is going to cancel their planned expansion just because YOU dislike the game? I highly doubt it, so what purpose does it server to make such statements? Why not leave things alone or write a post about what YOU feel the space expansion should include. That alone would provide some interesting reading.

Role playing game ? Are you for real ? There's nobody role playing this game (with a very small exception). The majority are afk macro farming something or afk spamming at Coronet. The last reported subscriptions was 220k, taking into account that many players have 2-3 accounts, means the actual number of players is around 100k. Going further, with 10 servers (dont recall exactly) and also considering most nights one can expect 20-40% of player base to be on (even less if you're counting live). Divide them up amongst player cities (stupid mistake adding them), and 10 planets leaves you very lucky to even see anyone outside of Coronet. I doubt that I ever saw more than 200 total players on Eclipse on a saturday evening before I quit in April. Used to be that many in Mos Espa back in the day.

Thats pretty pathetic when they once had 300k in October (and most were likely single subscribers then). The few remaining will leave once the space pack reveals itself to be a piece of junk eye candy upgrade.

Just stop with that afk macro bullshit (or bulljive if you prefer) I just logged on sunday night to only see about 100 people in naboo theed, tattoine, and coreilla running around looking for groups going on with their virtual lives. Okay, so there was about 1 to 4 people advertising, but the whole area was filled with people. I bashed SWG when i couldnt last the first month, came back and now i am loving this game. The potential is comming out and will soon be one of the top MMO's. image

Also I play on Lowca if you want to come on to see if people are still playing

1 moore thing let me clear up that was 100 people on each galaxy that I seen. and that was only on the main cities.

Just to correct your math.  20-40% of 10,000 is 2000 to 4000 players per server. Divide that evenly between 10 planets and you will have 200 to 400 players per planet. 2000 to 4000 players per server is not a bad number and that is what should be judged. EQ has a big player base, yet most of the game is empty because the majority of players are in the high level zones. I would not want to make any assumptions about EQ based on the players per zone ratio since they would most likely be incorrect.

I wonder if the lack of roleplaying is because most gamers simply do not care about it and only want to powergame their way to the top of the games they play. I have yet to see any roleplaying and when I try to stay in character, most players get freaked out by it and run away. I would blame the players more than the game when it comes to roleplaying. The opportunities to do so are certainly there.

True. Role Playing Game doesn't necessarily mean you have to role play, but  that the game itself sets you up as a whole new person, so in a way your in character when you ask someone about some armor or you want to go hunt some kaduus or get some imp. missions. Some people just may stereotype roleplaying (if that is possible) to were they think we all have to be sitting around a table eating cheetos and mountain dew and say " I cast though art tis dagger of blood which does +9 to orcs". But in reality SWG is a Scifi game and it is easier to talk regular than it would if you were in a mid-evil setting. 1 more thing, saying i need to go afk bio is the same as when you do in table top just there is no (ooc) tab, and who give a shiest about typing that

Likewise with your opinions.  I have not been continuing "on and on", as you say.  However, even if I was--what's it to you?

Isn't this the pot calling the kettle black?  Actually, if you would think for a second, you would realize that this thread is not intended to bash SWG.  It's meant to find out how many people on this board actually play this game.  I snuck some SWG-bashing in there, because it's always fun to do--but that was not the main reason for this thread.

Why should I waste my time doing that?  If my suggestions are ignored even in the offical forums, then why would they matter here?

Besides, people "most probably could care less since my opinions are mine and mine alone."  Although, I should mention that when you say "I could care less", that means that you actually care.  For if you didn't care, you couldn't care less, correct?

  • EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

    Zide,

the game has improved like 900% since I left in January.  I used to bash the game every chance I got because back then the game was a POS

Now that i have come back I am very glad I did come back.  I have been roleplaying every day since I "reactiviated" my account (had to buy a new game as I sold my original account)

If I were you, I would try the 14 day free trial before you continue the game "bashing" (like I did before)

Also, the AFKers are dieing out as the after the Publishes come out, grinding will no longer be an issue to becoming a Jedi.

    My opinions are these:

    1. I'm glad I came back

    2. They still have issues to work out

    3.  Im excited for the first time in my mmorpg life about SWG future.

P.S. lol why do half of all the negative polls have the same ISP address? :oP

    En1Gma,

I did go back a little while ago.  I was not impressed.  First of all, I started in Mos Eisley against my will.  That pissed me off because I don't like Tatooine.  And then, as I started to go out and shoot demonic rats, I began to think, "This is the same sh*t that I left the game over before.  I'm going to be killing a lot of these evil rats before I ever get anywhere."  No thank you.

  • HrnacHrnac Member Posts: 44

    En1gma,

I agree with your assessments 100%. The game has evolved in a very positive way and while not being completely where it should be, the dev team appears to have turned the corner. I am very eager to see what lies ahead. What is your chars name on Chalistra (SP?). I would love to say hello since I also play on that server. My char goes by the name of Tarsus.

From nearly the moment I turned SWG on, I wanted to quit. I played for a good 3 days. After that, my 3 month subscription was wasted. SWG might be excellent in some aspects, such as being awful and making players want to quit. Other than that, I say it as dry, BORING, reptitive, and generally obnoxious to even play. Suggestion to anyone considering to even touch this game: cut off your hands.

You quit during the free 30 day period yet wasted a 3 month subscription? Did you prepay for it and if so, why? You seem to have formed an opinion of the game before you even started it which is fine, but why then would you sign up for more than a month? That didn't seem like a wise thing to do.

Out of curiosity, what MMORPGS do you like?

Well, I know I for one don't play Star Wars Galaxies anymore! I played it for about 5-6 months, really loved it at first but over time it got quite boring in my opinion, and it just took them too long to add new content and more interesting quests, and becoming a Jedi was just such a tedious grind that it wasn't really that enjoyable.  Great graphics but I wasn't wild about the randomly generated terrain which really lacked a lot of character.  Plus I wasn't too wild about the skill based system, I personally think that class based systems work a lot better.

came back 2 weeks ago to see the changes. However i was out of town for 1 week of it.

Now they have made some good changes and fixed a lot of bugs. However my main reason for leaving was because everyone wanted to be a jedi and i can imagine in 2 years time there be no other class but jedi(how boring and plain would that be).coming back the same fever still gripes the community.

So based solely on this i would not go past my remaining 14 days.

The "proof of the pudding" will come with the release of WoW and others...

Lets face it there is very little competition at the moment with the old favourites like AO, DAoC, and EQ in a repetitive cycle of adding new content to keep the die hard community playing. NO attempts are made to make the entry level (noob) into any of these games easier.

Your character is never permamently moulded into a paladin/cleric and dabbling when bored is where SWG appeal lies.

I think in all honesty we all are waiting for the new releases!

I dont know.  I remember that comment being said like 6 months ago but instead of WoW and EQ it was FFXI, CoH, and Lineage 2

When FFXI was in beta, that game was suppose to kill off SWG

I played SWG from its first release to about a month ago. I would of left sooner but had some RL friends playing it that were new to the mmorpg world and they ended up getting way to obsessed with the game and the whole player city thing so I was finally able to quit after a stupid fight over a vendor lol....

The game was enjoyable for awhile but then it got boring. I tried different professions but nothing held my interest that long. Then everyone got so into grinding for jedi which was annoying in some places due to afk macroing.

I wouldn't bash this game it had some good points to it and soe did good with this one allowing people that only had a small amount of time the ability to log on and get exp in just a few minutes instead of having to play hours to get it.

Actually the last reported number of subscribers was 375K.  I would venture that after things have settled down, and those that don't like it have left they're, at a stable 300K and enjoying a steady growth of subscribers.

When started looking at WoW I kinda thought it was gonna be a king, but now I've changed my opnion I think it will be just another aveerage JOE for those who appreciate the Warcraft Universe. It won't be the one to seperate itself based on new revoluntionary concepts. It might set itself apart based upon enthusiam of gameplay, but not on its new ideas brought to the genre.

So I am a little bummed out now on WoW. As well some of the tactics the Dev Team are employing I am not a fan of. The way they have admitted beta testers is very shifty, and their ease of allowing 3rd party macros really scares me i do not believe their words to counteract them in the future.

However this is a SWG board and I'll say again I was fooled by the Dev team, and by SoE so now I hold a grudge against. Ralph Koster is the person who I hold grudge against the most, his words upon the beta boards were far different and he should have known better I think he mislead  a lot of people on the grand scale of what SWG was going to be. I specifically will call him a liar about Jedi.

Oh Koster and the Dev Team might have had grand ideas about how to create SWG but they never did and they never warned us they werent' as grand there is the lie. Fool am I for not seeing thru before they got me to pay for one month of pay time. Bane will they be forever as I will not forgive them.
