So I bought EoF two weeks ago from D2DRIVE hoping that I will have something to do between wow dungeon runs.I was interested in playing the game again since I recently bought a new, decent machine ...a intel 6600 ,gts 640mb and 2gb of 800mhz rams.

As soon as I updated the game ...I turned the video settings up to extreme quality to see what the peeps on these boards were bragging about. The game looked ok at best...

I started with a wizzard on AB(people here say it's the most populated server)Started in Faydwer. The art ,sound  and graphisc are ok.The queste are quite uninteresting.Ok ,so I got him to 17 with little to no grouping since people either ignore when I ask them to group.Got in a guild with mostly friendly people.Problem is I somehow feel this game has a lot to offer...but I can't just get to it . Explored some other zones like BB,SS,Lower faydark...again the areas seem a little pale so I decided to ask some peeps around and make a trip to Qeynos.I decided to take the long and dangerous way as a lowbie trought BB ...then to TS via a ship. When I reached TS I went woa. This looks just like Anarchy online (im exagerating..Im referring to the fact that theres a lot of nothing). So I reach qeynos, try to find a group almost each night, and I failed.Once I got a group for WC...whatever that is.So,being a newb ...I asked ..."How do I get there"  The only thing the peeps could answer was LOL.Such encounters are rare even on WoW ...and im playing that since early 05.

I tried rerolling ...other classes, freeport, darklight wood, pvp servers where  I got ganked like crasy by twinks.

To sum it all up...the game seems mediocre at best ...and I kinda regret buying it  for the second time.(Tried it at launch but it ran like hell on my old pc)

What could I possibly do in order to get bang for my buck .?

it doesnt sound like you are the type of person who can appreciate EQ2.. you should just stick with WoW.

Im not so sure about that.

I enjoy exploring ,socialising, light rp ,getting good looking loot .....well you know ,the things that make  a game good.

Im willing to ignore the negative aspects of the game since I payed 40$ for it and it really seems promissing.

Played lot's of mmos and my 2nd favorite is Anarchy online ....a buggy ,laggy game with bad graphics and sound.

    Im open to suggestions ...

I would also like to add that I pretty much enjoyed eq2 in jan 05'  even it lagged. I stopped playing because wow came out and I've been a loyal blizzard customer for some years....well you get the point

sorry for my spelling mistakes..cba to spellcheck atm since it's 5am in the morning here and im pretty tired.

Hay Battleaxe22...I understand where your coming from, I had the same problems as you. I just could not last more than 30 days.

Too many Vets that will not help and solo gets hard after level 10. It's a good game but the ppl are just way above a new player, guilds are no help, however you will get a few more questions answered than is chat but don't push it with too many.

The only thing I could think to save a good game like EQ2 and to get players to stay is to make a server for ONLY NEW PLAYERS and will figure the game out on are own. As it stands the only way you could fit in is to have a dynamic personality, never screw up because of low tolerance and nerver ever tell anyone you played  WOW.

    Good game gone bad

Unless you can find a good group of people your own level to group and chat with regularly all of these games are a bore. Even a buggy laggy game can be fun with the right group of people and the best game mechanics gets old if you are end up doing too much soloing. Seems as if lowbies will be having a hard time finding that in EQII now, the game is so top heavy level wise.

I have been with EQ2 for a year or 2 now and I can honestly say its one of the most fun and captivating MMOs I have ever played.

It has tons of character, is also nothing like Anarchy Online which I played for a few months and found bland in the extreme.

Regarding people "LOL" when you ask a question that is few and far between, my experience is people going out of their way to help newbies, at least thats how it works on my server. Granted there are always a few wiseguys and people with no social skills but you get them in every MMO.

I really dont think you know what you are looking to get out of the game, for me I have fun with my guildies and we do stuff together, perhaps you just need to find some like minded people in game and work on some quests together and have a bit of fun.

i totally disagree with you on about everything you said.
    1. The graphics are amazing in the game.
    2. The zones are much more creative and interesting than WoW
    3. The people i played with were extremely friendly, and almost everyone answered when spoken to.
    4. The quests are so much deeper than the WoW BS... in wow quests are go kill 10 scorpions... yeah thats interesting and deep?

I got to level 50, you got to level 17... way to give the game a try dude thats like saying wow sucks but i only played to level 10. The instances and dungeons later in eq2 are so much better than wow imo. The game is just better in all aspects, but when it came out it sucked and it takes high pc requirements so thats kind of how wow beat it in terms of customers.

I have an Idea that can work for you. Pick up a high elf or a wood elf and a templar or warden, they are the best for healings. I know you may not like the heal role but, this way, you will find groups really really easy. And people will explain you where are the dungeons and how to go there. Play with your healer until level 30 or so (You will not be able of soloing is so hard with healers), at this level, you may know a lot of content, and a lot of how the game and groups works. After you will be ready to start a new class, you will know where are the dungeons and how to work in a group.

    Some advices:

Downlad and install EQ2Map from eq2interfaces.com

    Start in Queynos.

When you dont know where to find a place look on your map, you may have eq2map working so you will see where it is located. If you cant find it, ask politely for a direction. I usually say: Sorry guys i may need somebody to help reach the place, if the way is full of mobs, or Can you explain me how can I reach this place, please?

If your group dont help you, you can do 2 things:

-Leave the group, they are probably a bunch of xxxxx

-Ask on your Level channel, this is the named as Level_10-19 and so, to do so, you need to talk on this channel. Channels are always numbered. So you will see onyour chat window:

    Level_10-19(2) anything people is talking

So on your chat window you write /2 and whatever you want to say/ask

The key is number side the name of the channel.

    Good luck!!

    That is good advice Alakram.

For the  posters who flamed the guy really gives a shit whether you yhionk the  game is the 8th wonder of the world or not, if I wasn't enjoying myself after 2 weeks I would just chalk it up and move on. Flaming people who are honestly seeking advice is a good way to run that operson and even more people off. This games community has really went downhill in the past year in my opinion.

Yup I have a 8800GTX , E6750 OC'd to 3.33GHz, and 2GB of 1066MhZ Ram and a 10,000RPM HDD Raptor. Everything maxxed and it looks, plays and animates beautifully. Getting bored with WOW, lvl 64 and its just...same old same old. Tried LOTR, couldent even make it past lvl 6 before I threw it down with hatred. I tried EQ2 a while ago shortly after launch, coming back I am having a complete BLAST. Everyone's looking for something different in a game, I've had more fun in the first 3 hours of game play in EQ2, than I did the first 3 hours of any other game. I'ts really changed for the better, think I'm going to upgrade my trial after its over for the full version.

    ----------------------
Played (In order of favorite first to least): DAOC, EQ2, EVE, WOW, Vanguard, AC2, City of __, Guild Wars, LOTRO, EQ, Sword of New World, FFXI, Lineage 2, Second Life, DDO, Anarchy Online, RF Online, Archlord, Uru, Ragnarok Online, Shadowbane, Planetside, Auto Assault, Ryzom, Matrix Online, Horizons, Entropia, Sims, Runescape, Lineage 1, AC1, Dungeon Runners

In all honesty, if you rolled on a pvp server.. well there is only one active one. Nagafen.. then no leveling up is not fun.  SoE has devised a system that pretty much just kicks any new players off the game in frustration.  Few new players start this game.. most of all the low levels you see are the few dedicated who stuck this game out.  Basically all the server has turned in to is level 70 raiding and a mass zerg of t2 twinks that farm infamy all day.  I can't count the number of people i see in chat quitting or not getting passed the trial b/c of it.  Level 30-60 is completely dead and you will be lucky to get a group once a day, if that.  It's just dead.   And yes class balance is a huge issue.  And SoE, since adding pvp hasnt shown any competency in balancing pvp.. so if you playing for pvp.. go elsewhere.  I have played for a long time, and have a few 70's but im not gonna act like this stuff isnt going on like most of the fanbois.  Fanbois are why some games never get better, b/c they wanna act happy so others do not think tthey game they are addicted to is below par.

SoE has resorted to handing out free copies of EQ2... nuff said imo.

if you haven't found fun yet..then the game might not be for you. I have tried pretty much every mmo under the sun (excpet the free ones) and being a beta --> current SWG player, i gotta say, the first few hours in eq2 i have ahd more fun than all the other (except pre nge swg) games. I find the graphics are beautiful, in depth content, rich story lines, solid (or near solid) gameplay, fun for casuals, solo, hardcore raiders and groups. I really find no downside to the game. It did have a horrible release, but SOE did a great job in improving the gameplay.

So to each his own, and if it doesn't suit you, then it doesn't. Not going to flame anyone on the game they choose, cause everyone has their own playstyle. and i play using: x1600pro ati, AMD x2 4200+, 2 gig ddr 667mhz ram, and i play it on one notch higher than balanced. I know i will lag in major cities a bit, but the beauty of some places really balances it out for me.

oh...and i play on a pve server, not pvp...so my experience might differ a little.

One thing i did in EQ2, to get thing rolling was chat alot in the newbie channels (the ones you auto join at certin lvls.) Then after a few nights of getting to know ppl and letting others get to know me. They were more willing to meet up, grp, and answer my questions, thru direct /tells. And now i have a regular grp i grp with every night.

Oh, I have fun.  But I can definetely see why this game isnt as popular as others.  The good graphics here def draws the RPers.  But, tbo.. graphics is pretty much all this game has on what else is out there.  I have played both EQ2 and WoW for years.  I am currently playing EQ2 b/c i got bored of WoW atm.

I have done all the quests in both games multiples times and I can say this with certainty, WoW, although cartoony graphics. has alot better content.  It has ton more areas to explore and all the areas and quests are tied together so well.  You can be level 30 and hear about a quest you did at level 15.  The quest progression in WoW is smooth and all the Lore is coherent.  Most importantly, they link the different areas together.  As you progress you lear more and more about the lore and how everything came to be.

EQ2 is just a mixing bowl of incoherent lore that really doesn't allow a new player to follow along and really feel involved in the lore.  Really none of the zones really have any lore that makes it feel like a coherent world.  I really feel the devs were trying to put a ton of lore in the game, but had no clue how to present it to the players.  Btw, original lands, KoS, SS... whats the connection.... nothing.. there is no coherent lore and it really ruins the experience for a RP.

Right now im enjoying EQ2, but sorry fans...everyone tries to use the excuse that no one plays EQ2 b/c it is too "complicated".  Trust me, this game is not complicated and i know tons of 12 y/o and younger who play this w/ no problem.

The real reason imo that 8 million more people play WoW is b/c it is easier to enjoy yourself in the game.  It has a much better pvp system and the quests and lore are tons better than in EQ.  It really pains me to hear people consitently trying to make others believe that no one plays eq2 b/c its too complicated.

Like i said before, the lore is a mess in this game and makes alot of the quests just feel redundant.  Of course EQ2 is gonna come out with more irrelevant expansions making the eq world just seem more like a broken vase glued together.  RPGs are supposed to present lore to you as you progress through the game, so you can get a feel for the world and learn about its history.  EQ2 does a poor job of this and its probably one of hte many reasons the game is so unpopular.

You burned yourself with this. The lore is MUCH better in EQ2 than WoW, but it's so wordy, and there is SO MUCH background. WoW has great lore, but it's great for sufferers of ADD. Blizzard is really good about blatant lore that jumps out at you like a commercial, and over playing a lot of things so even a 50 IQ can catch it. There's nothing wrong with that, as a LOT of people just need a lot of things to be blatantly obvious to catch it.

Check out http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/145809 , and follow the link. There is SO much, and the stories and books are so well written, like an actual history book in the library. WHICH IS WHY so many people miss the lore in EQ2 because it's set up like real world lore. You're to search for it, read it, and sift through the history and stories. Most people don't read and go through history books, they watch tv commercials. How many people know the names of the first 15 presidents, 10 presidents. If there was a beer commercial on tv with that list in the commercial 90% of americans would know.

You can be level 30 and hear about a quest you did at level 15.

You mean like Bone Bladed Claymore, or Ghoulbane, or Swords of Destiny, or Fire and Ice, and so on and so on. How about the childhood stories of the monster in the cave and when you find him, he's actually there. There are a lot of quests that are linked, and referred to in other stories, and sometimes you even have to backtrack because you missed something several levels back.

It really pains me to hear people consitently trying to make others believe that no one plays eq2 b/c its too complicated.

And so you just proved it, thank you very much.

that's pretty much my system, the 6600 is oc'ed to 3.4 and the 8800 is a 640 model and other than shadows I could run with everything at max. Shadows make it crash, same thing happened with my old video card. One of theses days SOE might find that memory leak, then pigs might start to fly also. LOL Anyway you arn't missing that much, the game is dying a slow death anyway, although the fanbois over here will never admit it..

And the LOTRO fanboi (you) don't like that people are paying more attention to EQ2 these days...  Funny how you used to have "upsetting fanboi since 97" when you are clearly one LOL.

Call me a SOE fanboi all you want, i don't give a flying fuck to be honest...  Hell, i might be a Funcom and EA Mythic fanboi too soon... does that count?  Can you be a fanboi of so many things at the same time?

WARNING known LOTRO fanboi who regularly bashes EQ2.Stopping splashing bullcrap .Just go have fun on LOTRO and i am happy for you.

Telling lies about a game simply put is lame as hell.I am currently playing EQ2 with shadows using "gasp" the G8800 gts myself with zero crashing .

If you feel the game is dying a slow death thats your  opinon as the ingame population says different.I seen  more posts regarding the exodus of players in LOTRO a far newer game then EQ2.EQ2 has a established player base thats not moving anywhere soon like all mmorpg 2 years +,LOTRO is still in the teething phase where it needs to grab players.

I wish both lotro and eq2 good luck and would never spread lies against them  as you are doing.

Get over it some like EQ2 ,some like LOTRO,telling lies to try  get fans over for a company you got no shares in is so sempiternal lol

I'm new to the game too (lvl 15 so far) but it already feels like I will stay here forever . If you're looking for a nice Euroserver i'd recommend Splitpaw which I play on. So far there's tons of chatting going on and several new guilds for newcomers. My advice would be to join one of them.

To the last poster,it sure damn runs on extreme settings,a little laggy at times in crowded places with full shadows on.Truth is ,I lied a bit since I turn the shadows off in towns :-( ,and the game still runs pretty good .
    My pc again is a Gigabyte Ds3 ,a intel E6600 cpu, 2GB 800mhgz geil and a asus 8800 GTS.

that's pretty much my system, the 6600 is oc'ed to 3.4 and the 8800 is a 640 model and other than shadows I could run with everything at max. Shadows make it crash, same thing happened with my old video card. One of theses days SOE might find that memory leak, then pigs might start to fly also. LOL Anyway you arn't missing that much, the game is dying a slow death anyway, although the fanbois over here will never admit it..

I guess everyone on this 22 page thread is lying about crashing also. This is not the first thread on the issue by the way, just the latest one.

The application ran out of memory errror has been there for well over a year now. If you are not one of the ones affected then fine. I always got it when I would turn up shadows. Most annoying.

    I miss DAoC
