Mature Players and guilds?

ttomm46ttomm46 Member UncommonPosts: 446

Hi

I' did the trial quite awhile ago while I was playing another MMO...My question is i wonder if there are guilds for older players..?...And a mature player base..I'm old.61

I tried WOW..What a community..I wasn't in the game 1 minute when i was challenged to a dual...when i declined this idiot calls me a f*****(g pussy...pretty mature.I thought it might be a fluke but it seems to be the norm there..

Anyway community is what counts for me

yes Ultima's Playerbase consists of  a lot of mature players, and I expect the % of female mature players is probably larger than the avg game.  The people I play with on my shard, Oceania, are aged 58, 31,  55, 39 etc, and there are a lot of us, I myself am 45.  It isn' t the easiest of games to learn, but I think that is probably the challenge of it.  It depends on how much you interact with other players as to how much you learn and how quickly.  Those who get into the community, ask questions, take advice and who want to learn without having stuff handed to them on a plate do well.

However, I view  Ultima as a world, not a game as such, I always think of a game as being something that you can 'win' whereas Ultima is more of a lifestyle, and yes, you can win battles against monsters or other players that if that is your wish, but you can also test yourself in a huge amount of other ways, that only have meaning for you.  This I think is what appeals to so many women as well as the guys, ie, try and breed every plant species or breed up a collection of pure white plants, try and obtain every species of fish, common and rare for your aquariums, try killing golems to get a complete set of gears to put in a music box, try fishing up sos's to get the ancients to challenge the leviathon to get that ghost ship anchor or a complete set of seahorses etc etc, the list goes on.

My personal bent is trying to run one of the most consistent vendor malls on the shard, with all stock crafted or looted etc by myself, not traded or bought from others as well as running player run events in the most professional way, ie auctions, a casino, trivia nights, xmas parties etc.  It is limitless what you can do in ultima, and yes, I understand in a game of this age there are always the 'vets' who are jaded and i guess the main problem is too many players think ultima is either a monster bash or pvp experience and rarely if ever dabble in all aspects of the world.

Best way is to just log in struggle along til you find Luna the main town and get talking to people.  Generally one of my first questions to anyone in game is 'how old are you in r/l' and from that point you can generally find a group that suits.

Ahhh whaaaa!?!?! ghost anchor!?!? heh never never heard of that one. But then I have been away for a long time. I do agree 100% with everything you said but I had to quote that only cause now I gotta go build a fisherman.

But for real to the OP everything she (I think its she) said is the god honest truth. Now mind you if you cross over to fel ( Felucia pvp facet) you will be kill on sight most likely only cause you will be an unknown. But even there if you remain calm and try to get to know some people you will find that everyone you tend to meet weather they ganked you or not is still a decent person all around. Expl.. I just returned to the game about 1 week ago. the past few nights i had been going to fel to try and find some old friends. When I got there being untaged(no guild) and Red(murderer) I got instantly ganked. Then to my amazment I saw a familiar Guild tag and ran up to them and started talking to him. ( he killed me) Now thats just his respons to an unknown and because Im a vet I know that but for a new player that would be very frustrating I'm sure. But he did res (resurect) me and then we talked for a few. Turns out the guild WAS still some of the older vets I used to play with including the guild master ( different variant on the tag made me not sure)so I instantly knew where my new home was.

then last night now guilded and rdy to hunt we where fighting an enemy guild only a few of them, One kept attacking me so I finally got him droped and he came out of his house .So I ressed him and then we chatted for a few mins.Im not an ass I just want good pvp and so did he  it wasent about Im a god and you suck it was just fun.and we both knew it.(mind you while i was talking to him another guildie dropped him with a rune beetle) not my doing he just did it out of nowhere but they have a bit more tention between each other I'm sure then I do against anyone just yet. Only cause I guess there was a big guild split and everyone still raw about it

Now the point of all that was really this be patient and understand you are stepping into a world like Missecho said and that is totaly true so in order to get the most from the World like in rl you have to network socialize and more hence my opinion on why its more of and older crowd then most games. And by stepping into I also mean its kind of like being born when you first came out of mommie you didnt even know how to breath but you learned with a little help from the nurse with a slap on the bottom. In other words no matter where you are in the UO world you can usually find that nurse if you yell loud enough.(buy that I mean ask questions of course) Myself I'm 33 and I know some of my guild mates are in thier 30's at least as well so to answer your question yes the maturity of the players is much better then most supposed MMORPG's out there.

As a last note on Missecho saying that you can do stuff just for yourself and so forth thats definatly one of the better aspects of the game.My favorit non pvp toon ( witch most of my toon are built for pvp) would have to be my tamer/provo bard. Its so fuffiling to go to destard(dragon caves) and get 10-12 dragon all fighting each other then taking out the stragllers with my WW(white worm ice dragon)

or my mare(black powerful horse) good times, good times, and the other stuff is certainly nice to like the auctions and stuff she mentioned I ont do em much but t does creat an atmosphere you don't get in any other game out to date. Anywhoo enough of my rant hope to see you in game sometime enjoying the Life we call UO.
