Okay,
So I just got done installing my new EVGA 8800 Ultra 768MB on my desktop. Prior to this I had been using a Quad-SLI 7950 GX2 2GB set up. I use 3dmark03 to roughly gauge my machines performance, though I don't always put a ton of stock into it. At the very least it lets you see what your upgrades do with your own personal machine. Sadly, the ORB is down right now so i can't send the two results I ran today with the differet cards. I will do so (since I saved them) when Futuremark gets the ORB back up.
Nonetheless, my run with the 2x7950s was something around 11870. With the 8800 Ultra (and I believe part of this is because 03 didn't support SLI) my score shot up to 39761. That's just a shocking jump I opted to test my rig to see if there was a noticeable difference so I started WoW. At 2560x1600 resolution with everything maxed I had a locked framerate of 60 FPS (which means it's gone past that. For whatever reason my desktop has never been able to show anything past 60 FPS on WoW even though my desktop will happily shoot up to 100).
Now...if Lord of the Rings Online would show my FPS I would love to see that. Anyone find an FPS command for Bioshock yet? Being able to play these games all babybutt smooth on a 30" LCD at max res is really nice. I can't believe Circuit City wanted $899 for this card when I got it for $599. Poor old 7950s ran in shame :P I had no idea the 8800 Ultras were really running this nicely now with the updated drivers.
"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

I'll take those 7950's off your hands for you.
Can we each have two? >.>

anything above 60 FPS is not detected by the human eye anyway, unless you're a jet fighter pilot, in which case you are trained to detect slightly more....

Does playing Jet Fighter Simulations count?

Does playing Jet Fighter Simulations count?
Only if you're an actual Jet Fighter pilot.

But what about those pilots of the UAVs? That's more like a simulator :P
An no..you guys can't have my old cards. I sold them for $200 each to a couple other people already.

actually optimal is 72 fps for games. A game will appear the most realistic at 72 fps even if it's no obviously noticable over a 60 fps rate.

Use Fraps www.fraps.com for in game FPS for LotRO.
Bioshock wont go above 30 no matter your rig. It's one of like 38 things wrong with the game right now

So did the developers pay off the review companies, or what?

Being locked at 30fps isn't such a big issue in a single-player FPS. I would be horrified if this was the case in multiplayer. I certainly don't think this takes anything away from the game.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
30 fps works fine for me. Anything more is just overkill, or at least a guaranteed kill of my computer.

Thankfully the Widescreen patch is forthcoming. That was really the only thing that cheesed me off a bit. As for stuttering I've not had a single stutter yet and I am a good way through the game, taking my time to see and do everything. Truth be told, most of the stuttering reports I have seen were usually sound related issues. And a lot of people are very lazy about updating their soundcards frequently.
FRAPS shows my LOTRO at 92 FPS average on max settings. By the way.

the companies who did the reviews had no idea there were so many problems. However, as of yesterday, many of them (including PCGamer) has had LOATHING editorials concerning the state of affairs.
Remember....reviews is not the right term when the game isnt out yet. It's called previews.
Here's a couple editorials concerning Bioshock release:

Eh EVGA's are weak.
Should have got the BFG watercooled editions like i did.
Im still setting everything up right now, but once i get the watercooling right, my raptor hard drives configured right, my new monitor arriving, and the really expensive pc 6400 Error correcting ram, i guarantee you i will shoot your benchmarks out of the water.
Mind you I am running two opterons, so its not a fair comparison.

3dmark sucks are reading CPU performance really. But when you get your machine all ordered and setup post your results here. I'd love to see the difference. Also, post the total cost for building your machine. I just want to gauge a "bang for the buck" value. According to Futuremark, though, there's a whopping 7851 computer results uploaded to them faster than mine out of 3.5+ million. So I am going to say I am pretty happy with the variation from my old setup. No need to go overkill for me if I can play everything I am playing without any framerate loss.

This is running with everything stock and no overclocks (which the machine is more than capable of handling. My poor fans never really turn on).

WHEN you get your benchmarks you can post them; until then talking about what your PC will do once it is put together just makes you look like a fool.
That sounds like an aweful lot of work
