I just started playing again recently as well. I've been reading a lot and playing around with specs. It seems most wizards go earth spec. You get 2-3 bolts, nearsight, dots, snare nukes, gtaoe. Pretty good for seiges/defense I'd think.

Fire wizards have 2 bolts that are roughly the same damage maybe slightly better than earth and a good single target nuke. No utility. If you want a good single target nuker, you might be better off with a sorc or theurgist.

As far as ice spec, it's mostly about the pbae and AE root. I believe PBAEs have falloff now. I don't know how effective they are anymore. The AE root is good for 8 man fights I think, but again if rooting is your thing, there are other classes that are probably better for doing it (sorc/theurg).

In other words, earth spec unless you really just want fire damage or pbae for some reason. Then again I could be totally wrong as most of this I've gathered from reading and low level experiences.

    For websites:

vnboards.ign.com is the forum everyone uses

daoc.catacombs.com is ok but somewhat dated and the "forums" are fairly inactive

www.classesofcamelot.com seems to be pretty good and up to date (except the player written guides)

also google for: daoc character planner....download the one on sourceforge

All depends how far you take him... if you're building a character to run in the lower level BG's where theres lots of attacks/defences of the center keep you can't beat the fire wizzy for sheer damage at range.... I've been blown up quickly standing on a wall looking for a good target to shoot....  but for sheer utility, I think the earth wizzy is a good choice......

With Earth spec you're only going to get 2 bolts and the AOE Root is Earth spec not Ice. I personally agree though that Earth spec is probably much more usefull utility wise plus you get the two bolts with it.

Fire does ALOT more damage with thier two bolts than does Earth. If you are going Fire wizard you will be a bolt specialist, the DD is pretty good too, one of the highest delve DDs in the game. Heat has always been high on people's resist priorities though and this will factor in some, but not too much.

The thing about Earth's bolts is only ONE of them is matter damage type (Earth spec). The other bolt is Heat damage (Fire Spec). You will have variance on the 2nd bolt, dont expect it to do reliable damage each hit (see resists above too). There are the other utility spells which will be aces in PvE but nearly useless in PvP the way things are anymore, the GTAoE will just be an interrupt basically, it does very low damage. The nearsight is ok though, but against a horde of mids or hibs it will be of little use.

My advice, stick with fire, bolt, bolt, bolt and bolt some more. Pretty much all a wizard is good for anymore the way the game is. Unless you are primarily a PvE player then go Earth.
