Should i play this game?

Hello guys, i'm a MMO fan, and i've recently stopped playing WoW for certain reasons....and i'm thinking about a new MMORPG, and i've narrowed it down to this, Two Worlds, and LOTRO.  Can u guys just let me know why this game would be better than those? i don't know much about it and i'd like to get some info from actually players. thanks a lot

    it's a very different game.

almost all your actions in the game are done in instance that only allows a small ammount of people to join. the town acts as a 3d chat room to find partys,  and you will never encounter strangers fighting in the wild when you travel like other mmorpgs since 90% of the game is instanced. if you really enjoy how diablo2 or Guild wars works and don't mind paying monthly for this game then it should last you for a while.  just d on't rush contents as each dungeon is carefully design to suprise players who play for first time

but personally i would recommend you to try out lotro out of all your choices

I agree it is a very different game than WoW. If you were a hardcore raider/player than DDO and LOTRO might not be for you. Both are set up pretty much for casual playstyles.

They need an all games pass like SOE, but that is another story.

Anyways I know DDO offers a trial (minus the high-res textures) and LOTRO has referral keys which I'm pretty sure you can get one in the LOTRO forums on this site. It also doesn't have the high-res textures in the download. Give em both a try see what you think. I sub to both, but that may not be an option for you.

I wouldn't waste my time with this game.  As I don't see it sticking around much longer.  But if anyone can keep a sinking ship a float it would be Turbine.  Here's why:

    Server Merge

And they cancalled the expansion Forsaken Lands.

I have played LoTrO and Two Worlds.  The demo of Two Worlds isn't as good as the actual game.  LoTrO is a great graphical game.  That has good promise.

    Tested over a 115+ games since 1997.

    Currently Playing:

Played(Retired): AOL NWN(91-95), UO, EQ1/2, DAoC, CoX, Lineage1/2, SWG(Pre CU/NGE), Planetside, Anarchy Online, FFXI, AC, Vanguard, D&D, AoC, DCUO, Rift, Eve, others

While I know what you are trying to say, what you literally wrote was two reasons Turbine is able to "keep it afloat" and I agree.

The server merges should have been done a long time ago. D&D, and therefore DDO, is a group-centric game and DDO's population was spread out over 12 servers in the US alone. I was typically able to get groups regardless, but after the merges there's friggin people all over the place and it's easy to get groups of pretty much all level ranges now.

Expansion? Canceled? I didn't follow or play DDO back then but it seems like all the expansion content was instead put into free content updates rather than making us pay for another box like SOE does.

Regardless, to the OP, like many of have said before DDO is a niche game. It's totally different than every other MMO out there. A lot of players like it, a lot of players do not. If you're curious, do the 10 day trial and make your own decision.

I would count out LotR - I heard it's just like wow but, not as good.

Edit: I heard from 2 of my good WoW friends who then went back to WoW with myself included - I should have been more clear

Always a good idea to discount something based upon "what I heard" rather than what I experience for myself.

This game was a huge disappointment.  I quit after the free month.  Then a year later, I read up on all the updates and so-called improvements and gave it another shot.  Nope, still a huge disappointment.  It's just not a fun game.

Try to ignore Cheeba, the fact is Forsaken lands was never cancelled, it was released for free 2 mods ago.

Read my review if you want to know why I find DDO superior, it's a couple links below.  And as far as the server merge goes, having a selection now of 2 or 3 groups of any level 24/7 is a pretty good thing if you ask me.

If you like going into a forest and killing 10 wolves and running back to get 50 copper... This isn't the game for you... On the other hand, if you enjoy entering a dangerous cavern containing weird foes such as a beholder, or drow scorpian... Opening a chest and getting hit by a suprising trap, and teamwork based gameplay... This is the game for you.
