Started playing last night.

Was easy to download and setup an account for free, updated the game pretty quick as well. I had tried this a few years ago when it was first released but was distracted by SWG at the time.

1. Character Creation - You can change quite a bit of what your character looks like, slide bars for most of the main parts, size, wheight, face, hair etc.. lots of options so i was quite happy with that. Sure its nothing compared to EQ2 or anything but the game is a bit older.

2. Game engine and interface - Right so I started the game up, the graphics are looknig a bit dated but remined be a bit of SWG infact some things where more details than SWG. I had everything turned up and the game ran without any issues. The interface seemed your standard type.. Chat box, skill box at the top, map and health bar bottom right, option bar top right. There was a breif tutorial telling you the basics and then tips seemed to be available everytime you did somthing new. I checked out al lthe different screens, from the invetory to the character skill sheet all seemed easy to use and get too.

3. In game - Ok then so you start out with nothing but a orange boiler suit and i mean nothing else, no cash, no wealons. This is mainly because they want you to buy ingame credts, $10 will get you 100 in game creds, there are a few other things you can do to get cash but it takes ages. You can gather sweat from animals or somthing but I have been told you can be doing that for a long time before you save up for anything.

Moving around seemed real bad to start with, it was WSAD or so I thought, but A and D where strafe and the mouse would not turn the screen :(, so i asked on open chat and was soon told how to get it working properally, need to go into options and turn on aim mode, now the mosue would turn the screen if i hit space, soon got the hang of movement. Also as I was chatting on the open chat someone offered to mentor me and provide me with a weapon and ammo :) hell i could not turn that down. So the guy met up with me showed me the ropes, he took me out to kill my first mobs hehe :), I equipped the pistol he gave me and started to attack. The combat seems quite basic at least to start with, its aim and fire with the mouse, could not see any special attacks or anything tho im not sure if you get any at a later stage. Your skills go up the mroe you use a weapon, please note this game si not LEVEL based, you just get better at skills the more you use them, i think some of the later weapons require you to have certain professions but im not sure there.

After killing a few mobs the guy ran me to another small town type thing, wel lran me half way there then we transported to the nearest revive point, you can do this whenever you like it makes it easier to get around the place as this world is massive and takes you ages to run anywhere. You can transport directly between cities but this costs credits around 60 by all accounts. At that point i had to log off to eat hehe.

Came back about half hour later and started to explore the enw small town, sadly I had ran out of ammo kills mobs befroe and my loot I had collected was not enough to buy any ammo.. well I was just short of being able to get an extra 100 clip, so I decided to buy some credits.

I went to their website and brought $10 worth of credits 100 in game :). I logged back into the game and my credits where there in my inventory :) very good hehe. Anyway i set out and got myself soem new weapons, got a basic rifle, basic 2 hand sword and some basic armour now i looked the biz hehe :) oh yeah got 1000 ammo for my rifle and my pistol :), I also got a med back and a load fo tools for mining and stuff :). Anyway off i went to kill and kill i did for about an hour got quite a few skilsl to rise up as well as my medic skills witch is somthing you wil lwant to do i guess. All in all from the loot i got I made jsut over 10 credits enough to buy an extra 1000 ammo clip for my rifle, I had used only 500 of the last clip. My advise here when starting out save up for a sword as you wont need to buy ammo all the time witch is gonig to me a money sink i would have thought.

Time to explore wandering around i found a few small out posts and then I came accross a player city well i assume it was as when i entered it said it was owned by a group of players or somthing :) first building I came too was a massive mall and i mean massive makes the SWG ones look tiny.. got myself a new sword there but there was so much more, auctions, crafting stations, many many many player shops.

Ok ill stop gonig on now this game seems like it is gonig to be fun reminds me a lot of SWG with the palyer cities but is much bigger so im gonna stick around for a while. People alway go on about having to buy credits to start with, but the way I look at it the game is free to play and free to download.. even if you spend $10 a month on credits thats less than what you usually pay for a game.

I have not taken a look at the crafting system but it looks good alost as good as SWG crafting was back in the day, the world seems massive so is gonna take a long tiem to explore. OK look can be hard to coem accross but they dont want people getting ritch from looting.

People you need to try this game out.. anyone who liked pre CU SWG will like this game, OK the combat is basic but everything else is awesome..

It's graphics have always been dated, even when it first launched. It's user interface/controls are the biggest mess I have ever seen. No intuitiveness at all. As you said, someone had to explain them to you.

And yes, I played this crap. So, I do know what I'm talking about.

Indeed, then again in theory it is "free to play", hard call.

You dont have spend a penny if you dont want too, will just take you a bit longer to get a wepaon.. So yes this game is totally free to play.. yes its hard but if you save up enough for a sword you wont need to sink money into ammo.

Plus this is just as much fun as any other sci-fi mmorpg out there at the moment and reminds me a lot of swg pre-cu..

as for not understanding everything about the interface that is kinda my fault as I never read anything about it.. as soon as it was expalined the interface is fine.. and very easy to use.

This is defnitly a game very haunted by its past.

Its the only game out there. with Real cash thats auctually feeling like real. and its the only game out there. With some real FPS hunting.

Sure graphics are dated. But they just purchased Crysis Cryengine 2. And will update the graphics in 1 year with that one.

One thing is true. You will lose TONS OF Cash if not you play smart. If not you wanna lose. Simply dont play like a smartass.

Play low. Play safe. Play high. play risk. Thats how it is. If you can't handle it. your going to end up like the Haters on this forum. Who aint got the brain to figure that out

If this game really was the big scam people say it is. It wouldent been as popular as it is nowadays. thats simple logic.

It doesent cost any money to Travel from town to town through teleporters. It cost money to use a teleportchip to teleport to a certain Cordinate. and it cost money to travel to space. But its players that gain these moneys. Not the developers.

You need to fly by a spaceship to get to space. and people own and build up spaceships in hangars ingame. They go for quite some money. So sure they want some cash in return for the investment.

I'll say. if your at all interrested in the princips of this game. Dont read your way to if you want to try it or not. Simply download it. and try it. It aint very buggish to play. It has bugs. But not ones that makes the game sloppy in anyway.

Im sorry. But your not very realistic if you think buying a sword will be any cheaper to hunt with that a gun. In fact. Melee (swords and so) is some of the most uneconomical weapons ingame. Exept a few. as they just decay instead of burn ammo. meening you have to repair them quite often.

was this the game that a parcel of land sold for (US) $23,000 ?

I remember playing it the month if came out....while back. All i remember, was the terminals to buy credits( i never bothered) I also remembered it had a huge emote and emote animation list....2 lists I believe....oen was emotes the other , I think...was setting a stance..( how you stood when idle)

I didnt seem like the game for me...I explored ALOT..and didnt find too much in the lanscape to warrant paying for credits...after opening up a few teleport cities...I uninstalled.

    :(

The game is designed to always cost more than you can make, everything decays, weapons do so very fast, especially the swords.  Guns and their mods do to, the mods also pretty fast.

Unless you get really lucky and hit a big global, it will always be that way.  Its more like a casino in mmo format than anything else heh.. you just keep going hoping for that big win (the big global), and throw more credits at it.  Crafting is expensive, good gear is expensive, etc.

But it is fun, I admit.. played it for a long while before getting annoyed and leaving.  And I saw a recent post here about a new engine of some kind for it, so perhaps it will get better graphics, etc.

yeah your right about that i was just being silly..

the game is really fun tho.. yeah sure you do have to put $10 maybe $20 at the msot in each month but I think its worth it...

so mi gonna be sticking around for a while.. only issue i can see at the moment is lack of quests..
