"Monster Hunter Frontier" Vs. "Age of Conan"

turnipzturnipz Member Posts: 531

Well both these games seem to implement aiming and dodging into an mmo, and I think they both look rather fun to play.  Anyways im not gonna fill up a page with crap, which will be more fun to play?

Heres a short video of each:

MHF looks kinda fun - is it coming out of Japan though?

  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

    wow that looks pretty spectucular!

Now, if asian mmorpg's like that were brought over to the NA/EU market, instead of the 90% cloned drivel they send us, they just might get taken a little more seriously. But, then again, most of the asian games we get are not from Japan.

Japan could get a very nice market share if they started importing their mmorpgs. Very nice, at least from what the video shows.

However, no point in making a poll for the two, as  MHF is not going to be released here, AoC is.

Wasn't there a monster hunter title for a console a few years ago?

Wondering if there is any relation between the two.

AoC looks like it will be great, but from my experience with Monster Hunter...  that game is just brutally difficult and requires a level of teamwork unseen by most people.  There is hard, then there is Monster Hunter hard.

The Senior Director of Strategy at Capcom USA said that 2 big factors to MH Frontier getting a English release are:

1 - how well it sells in Japan

    2 - ongoing costs(GMs, servers, updates, etc)

He also said that the team that would localize it is very busy with other projects right now so if it is localized don't expect it until late 2008.

Capcom USA is very interested in the Monster Hunter series but there are many things to consider with such a big undertaking as a MMO.

monster hunter is not for the average gamer, i play this game online on ps2, this game requires alot of teamwork, on the level of guild finatical vent, and planning teamwork, teh way combat works and how monsters work, there isnt a simple see the mob and attack.

A game like this would be extremly esoteric as people would get frustrated with it way to quick.

People have been asking for challenge, in fact they've been asking for everything monster hunter has to offer.  Good twitch based combat, fighting cool guys with giant weapons, some actual difficulty.

  • CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505

i never really liekd games with stupidly oversized weapons like that... but the combat did look quite fun againt that dragon..

I think conan will be a better game as asian games tend to be one big kill fest and it gets boring..

  • ZorvanZorvan Member CommonPosts: 8,912

Hell, I'd be willing to team if the gameplay matches the graphics. Is there a synopsis of the game in English or translated to English, so we can see what it has to offer?

  • DulainDulain Member UncommonPosts: 616

I was just reading that the online part of MHF is only in a group of 4. Though the combat does look fun, it won't match large scale guild battles of AoC. I'll definitely check out MHF if it comes out in the US though.

And also, the character customization/evolution (that is a big important part of a game, because is a mmRPG) think conan has more posibilites than the asian one, also, as I saw (correct me if Im in a mistake) MHF is only for a 4 palyer teams... so... where is the "masive" part? and at last, I found no pvp, only griding in mhf?

At least it looks like Capcom put some thought in how team play could be though. Maybe it shouldn't be as intense, but it would be nice to see someone bring back the true meaning of challenge to the MMO market.

I guess it depends how you wanna play, I play with just a few friends and just want play a game that combat is actually fun in.  Only bad thing that could happen is if the world ends up being to small or if theres not enough enemies to fight against.

edit)  Actually seems theres a lot of tiny enemies that run around.

I seriously can't vote for either since they both stand out equally in my book.

When I first played Monster Hunter, I strongly felt that it would translate into an MMO perfectly. I remember thinking while playing the first monster hunter that it felt like an off-line mmorpg. It's the same way I felt about FF12.

But I'm also a big fan of Conan as well. I've been waiting for Age of Conan like a giddy fanboy. Plus, I've stayed away from AoC and avoided watching or seeing spoilers. But now that I've seen in-game footage, I'm really stunned and surprised to see the world looking FAR better than I had ever hoped.

So this poll blows my fuse. I just can't choose between them both.

I guess I'll be buying and playing them both when they're released!

A friend of mine is currently playing it and he loves it.

Your friends playing monster hunter frontier?

Anyways the poll hasnt been voted on much but monster hunter frontier is doing suprisingly well, im suprised capcom doesnt want to release it here it'd obviously do well.

If it's out in Japan it shouldn't be too hard to get to play it.. unless they IP block then you'd have to go through the hassle of tunneling. I play lots of asian games from China, Japan, Korea etc with little problems.

Anyways I'm downloading it now to give it a try.
