Hey there,
I've been looking at EQ2 for months... I have the game here (excluding EoF) and I just need a motivation boost to start. I have no one to play with because everyone I know are pro-WoW. My first 30 days on account have been used, I need to pay for next month, thing is I don't know if it's worth it. I will be playing Warhammer Online for sure, I have a lot of chances of being in beta so I am wondering if I should try out Everquest 2 for a month.
I am a huge PvP fan and I enjoy raiding. I have around 25-30 hours a week to spend on a MMO. I also enjoy playing casters. I had to post what I'm feeling right now see if people can help me out. If anyone has a trial key I could put on a my actual EQ2 account, would be awesome...

I need motivation to give you my 7 day trial pass.

Fair enough.Any specific questions.
As a summary:
EQ 2 world is based on the concepts and themes of the brilliance of the EQ 1 world. However, in my judgment, I think the EQ 2 world is overall a better world. The gameplay is more interesting and less limited to the trinity (tank, heal, dps) and more complex with a greater degree of options. The content is far-reaching. You have solo adventure packs. You have solo dungeons. Dungeons that require a near full group. You also have a ton of content that are from cities, camps, and throughout the world in real time. The races are all different, so you should choose one you enjoy. I particularly like the Arasi because you can glide. I have yet to raid, although I look forward to it. I heard that it is more strategically and tactically based and definitely not zerging. I am also aware that most people have told me that many raid encounters require only 2 groups. I like that because I hate to look for group or look for more to experience the game, whether it is raid content or not.
The community is really great. If you play on the Antonia Bayle server, now is a good time to join because tens of thousands of new players have recently joined up. Many of us are from WoW, EQ 1, Vanguard, and other games. I wish I had known EQ 2 was as good as it was earlier.
The future of EQ 2 is exciting. The Rise of Kunark will introduce a massive island, a new starter race, and a lot of content. Some of the best EQ 1 content was from the "Ruins of Kunark" expansion. You will have some of the best EQ 1 dungeons -Karnor's Castle, City of Mist, possibly Howling Stones, and Veeshan's Peak-- in the EQ 2 expansion.
I think it is a game with the best of EQ 1, with a lot of innovations, without the EQ 1 problems of long corpse runs, LFG, zerging, etc. The character customization is very deep with many options. You have class trees but also receive unique abilities ever few levels or so that also include adding to your stats.

whoa that's great... what about PvP?
I do not do the PvP thing. I heard that it is not so good.
HOWEVER, this is a huge however, the person that got me really interested in EQ 2 was a friend from Vanguard who played on Venekor (sp?) which is a PvP server.
If you like PvP, I suggest you try it out. The reason why I did not try it out is because I do not want to -ever- experience getting "ownzped" by some low level twink. To each his own. Of course.

Well if your waiting for Warhammer you mine as well not waste your money to pay every month for a game you will discontinue. I would try Guild Wars, as theres no monthly fee and you can stop anytime you want. Plus, if you don't like Warhammer (Although I find it hard to imagine) then you can always go back to it. The PvP is at it's best there.
WELL, let's try to be fair. You cannot make those claims about WAR just yet (the game is not released).
I thought I was waiting for WAR too until I played EQ 2. I like EQ 2 so much I do not plan to pick up WAR, but I will follow it. If after release the news and reviews are mostly positive, I will try it.
My expectations were so completely exceeded in EQ 2 I am excitedly waiting for the Rise of Kunark expansion. I believe a lot of people would like it as much as me if they tried the game. I did not like the trials so much, though.
