Arenas or small instanced battlegrounds werent invented by guildwars.
oh im sorry i dont recall saying guildwars invented anything. my question still remains unanswered however.
the way the arenas were developed and how they play in guildwars is what was stolen and put into wow. some of the arena maps in wow are almost identical to gw's arena maps i mean come on. what a joke.

Your question has no answer because you never asked one, you made an assumption and demanded an answer to your own assumption - nothing more.
Some of the arena maps in wow? there are only three wiseguy, and they are in no way similar to Guild Wars arena's in any way, shape or form. As for Battleground maps, they are nowhere near similar to Guild Wars either.
How they play? Warsong Gulch (capture the flag) has been used by many genres of multiplayer gaming for years, your out of luck on that one.
Alterac Valley is completely unique to WoW, out of luck on that one too.
Arathi Basin, same story as above.
Eye of the Storm, also completely unique to WoW and no other game, getting the picture yet?
I don't even play WoW, but its a quality product with many innovative features unique to it and it alone, and I have no problem admitting it.
You realise that most of the ArenaNet dev crew worked for Blizzard before leaving to make Guild Wars, don't you? who stole from who? common sense prevails here.
The only joke here is your completely ignorant statement, made by a Guild Wars fanboi that cant hack it in a game thats more than a glorified chat room. When the games own company has to produce a sequel to make up for all the fuck ups it made with the first title, that speaks volumes about the quality of the existing product.
Next time actually think before you blurt out a complete bullshit statement, in a piss poor attempt to bash a quality mmorpg (especially when your comparing it to a game that can barely be considered anything more than an online cyber cafe).
NCSoft is definetly the best mmo exclusive publisher in the world. Now that Webzen, Gravity, and Hanbitsoft are expanding thier mmo repitioure, we could see some competition for NCSoft. SOE has alot of games, but its limited market and unoptimized games really limit its success. When they start releasing games in the Philipinnes, Singapore, and the like it may start to see the revenue other companies get in these regions. But they would also have to make thier games playable on older systems and look good at those settings. They would also need to change thier business plan. I don't think SOE is capable of doing that.
Maybe when the other market's are worth releasing in we will see some more games making the jump to be world wide. The last number I saw though stated that WoW's NA/EU market makes around 100 times more per month then the Asian Market does with around 3million compared to the 5 million subscribers in Asia. So with almost half the subscribers they are making 100 times more money. That means that a NA/EU game with around 100K-500K subscribers makes about as much as WoW makes in all of Asia.
I just don't see the need to move into the Asian marketplace for most of these companies unless it doesn't cost them much more and it doesn't take that much effort.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Lets burn this dude at the stake, god the moron wow!
He made a mistake, no need to smash him with your fury+6.
Arena's are just that Arena's and most games with pvp have had some sort of Arena play, some instanced most not.
A lot of you praising blizzard fail to remember over 4million of that 8 is in Asia alone. Then spread the rest accross the entire globe. We are talking 1.5million at most in the US. Then spread that accross how many servers they have. That's basically your average US citizens per server. Not a whole lot.
I know NCSoft canceled auto assault (freaken wicked awesome game), but they didn't advertise enough. It was an error on their part and that's just how it was. Mistakes happen. You all should know and understand this. That doesn't mean it wasn't a good game, because it was a freaken awesome game. All it needed was some good advertisement and some new servers (got laggy now and again).
I currently play CoV/CoH combo. While the grind does show. It only shows its ugly face at level35, which is being fixed with the new CO-OP (you can play with the opposite faction, etc.). 35-40 is hard to accomplish, because it is true for those levels there is a wee bit lack of content. While there IS contacts and stuff to get missions from. The exp isn't much. The new zone will take you straight to 50 FAST, but there is a 40+ zone you can go to and accomplish the same task. Just getting 35-40 is hard.
I like the game, because I can jump in and accomplish something in 2hrs (thru-sun work week). Then when I don't have work I can easily gain 2-3 levels. It's a lot of the same thing. Do this mission, etc. The thing is the objects change A LOT. This is due to story arcs. It's also really good story if you actually take the time and read the missions. Some hilarious stuff in a few of them too.
I REALLY like the travel aspect of the game. Jumping around with superjump is just the most awesome thing ever. Screw mounts, never liked 'em anyway. Plus this game isn't a POS midevil game. So SICK of midevil games. I've swung my last dang sword and am not buying another midevil MMO unless it shows VERY good promis. The super hero/villain lets me go back to my comic days. Didn't you guys have comic days? Nice tall glass of lemonaid in the summer heat reading hulk, spiderman, etc. If not.. what a shame.. Anyway they send you a free comic from the series they are developing. I need to buy the older editions, because I quit for a year. (went back to eq2 from a request.. what a mistake)
The customization is just freaken AWESOME. Yes there are some people with skimpy arse outfits, but who cares. If they want to express themselves like that then so freaken be it. I'll be holding daily costume contests once I hit level50 for money prizes to lower levels to help out the community (the early money helps A LOT in crafting really good enhancements.. basically triples your efficiency.) Some costumes look just awful, but the contests inspire people to do better. So it really helps out and it's a lot of fun. Everyone gets together and talks to one another. Just a fun event.
PvP in this game is also very cool. The outside missions are a big challenge when heros and villains pit against each other. People flying/jumping/running/teleporting all over the place. It's a big epic battle for sure. Very fun.
As for the end-game. You folks need to learn to reseach. There a several end-game raids for very hard missions to get very good/rare enhancements. There is also a new one coming with i10.
BTW enhancements is like your equipment. There really is NO difference besides enhancements not changing your appearance like armour does. Seriously.. there is. Good enhancement set up makes your powers MUCH more powerful. Can turn some otherwise useless powers into godly assets to a battle. For example. My single target knock back is awful unslotted. Now it's slotted with chance to hold (like a mez), chance to drain endurance (used to cast your powers.. not good to lose it), and 2 accuracy so now it has a 200% chance to hit! It'd be VERY hard to avoid it. I can keep someone on their butt forever practiclly. Gives me a good advantage against anyone not immune (very vew people seeing how it's a magnitude 8 KB).
Anyway, as for blizzard. I enjoyed Starcraft/Diablo, but it stopped there. So far i've enjoyed every NCSoft game. Starcraft was ok, but it's nothing more then another Asian attraction so i'll pass. I'd MUCH rather see a new Diablo, but that'll probably never happen. WoW was nothing more then a dumbed down MMO cartoon land. I couldn't stand it.
As for Guildwars. Full PvP wasn't my thing so I quit. It's still a VERY good game.
This is -ALL MY PERSONAL OPINION- so none of this is pure fact. It's just how I feel about the games and companies. So please keep the flaming to your self. I'm not directing it to anyone, but just saying my opinion on both companies and games.

I just don't see the need to move into the Asian marketplace for most of these companies unless it doesn't cost them much more and it doesn't take that much effort.
It has more to do with how the companies treat the asian market and not how effective they are as revenue. The reason why WoW doesn't make too much from the Asian Market is because the bulk of thier revenue comes from China. There are a few problems with the revenue from China: A good number of subscribers use the US version for gold farming; There is the 1/8th exchange rate; and They have to go through a publisher to get through chinese law. The publisher keeps the majority of the profits. It had no real penetration in key markets in Asia. Its Korean version did poorly. It had no exclusive Japanese Version, other markets were simply ignored as non-existent. 1 Korean subscriber puts almost twice as much money into a game then 1 US subscriber. 1 Japanese Subscriber puts about the same as a US subscriber. Also you should remember that the costs of operating in countries with poor economies is also lower.
One thing many companies do to increase thier market penetration is seek contracts with local companies so all the publisher would recieve is fixed profit, while the company has to market it to the local audience and figure out how to get its own profit.
If you successfully create a game for these markets, you could easily get an additional $2-15 million. It starts to add up.
NCSoft seem to be doing quite good, yes, but if it's the "best" is relative. I think NCSoft is doing good because they don't interfere - at least not with what ArenaNet has going for Guild Wars. I'm not familiar with the other games they have to offer, so I have no arguments on behalf nor against those. Blizzard only has one MMO and they manage it themselves. I've never had any problems with Blizzard, their account security is top notch (maybe too high), and the only ones really whining are the ones who installed some World of Warcraft add-on which just happened to have a keylogger attached - and thus got screwed. I feel sorry for anyone who got scammed badly in-game since Blizzard rarely does anything to help them out, but again that's part of the game's ToS (Terms of Service). I have only vaguely tried out EverQuest 2 and had no problems with SoE - guess they've either gotten better or I just didn't give them the chance to screw me over - but their bad reputation from SWG and so on will most likely follow them for a long time to come - with or without their new Station "solution".
Oh ye...NCSoft is the best MMO company of nowadays, for sure, look at the games list, you cant find a bad game there, L2, GW, CoH , CoV, Tabula Rasa, Aion, etc., etc., etc.....
They cancelled Auto Assault because it sucked so they cancelled it because they dont want bad games in their list...as they cancelled that Soccer Fury or something because they saw that wouldnt give many profits in the future.......NCSoft wants just quality games in their list so.....;)
just to make a new topic other than the billions of wow topics. i believe ncsoft is the best company for mmo's. First off it has the lineages which have really good pvp. it has city of heroes and vilians which is different from the fantasy genre. it also has the best customization (for now) and bein a superhero or villian is just cool. it has guildwars which has no monthly fee and good pvp. dungeon runners is a good game to get some quick dungeon raiding in. also it is free. in the future it will get games like tabula rasa, a shooter mmo. also it will get aion, a game where you can fly and has good graphics. exteel is a robot game where you take your robot to fight other robots. it has other games but to go into all of them will take awhile other companies cant come close to ncsoft. maybe soe right? sure it will with the matrix and star wars galaxies (sarcasm). agency looks kinda cool but it doesnt look as cool as tabula rasa. the only good game they really have is everquest2.
NCsoft is good at offering games to a nitch market. Also the graphics of most if nto all of theyre games are great. However gameplay in most of the games is lacking. Lineage 2 pvp sucked imo. Sure its FFA PVP , but at the time it seemed like nothing more than a system taht catered to griefers. Aside from that , thecastel siege and politics of the game were awesome. COH&COV ....good to play for a month. best part of that game is making characters. Which I do have to say is superior to most games out there in that aspect. But the gameplay overall and boring missions wear you out fast. GuildWars...antoehr nitch market, either you like it or dont. I didnt like it and uninstalled within a week and resold it on Ebay.
On the horizon they have Aion which looks to be a very good game also. While I dont think every game they pump out is the best, you are right they are a great company. They have the money and they pump out good games to gamers who would not otherwise be offered these types of games.
hmm since its not in off topic then i assume its related to mmorpg.
As such i think its unfair to look at any company which has 1 mmorpg only to its credit like blizzard.
Even mythic still has only 1 mmorpg to its name .
So i go with contenders as SoE,NCsoft, turbine and EA.This are the only companies i know that have 2 or more mmorpg.
SoE- pro good history with everquest 1 and 2 ,only real mmofps, all in 1 accounts, good reliable billing, stands by its products, good development,no history of closing its games
cons- swg fiasco, unreliable csr(from excellent in EQ2 to medicore in planetside),loves to buying failing mmropg like mxo and vanguard
EA- pro-erm it bought mythic (might not even be a pro but had to write something).can't think of anymore
cons- lousy csr, worst track record for closing mmorpg and dumping ones in development,no vision at all.Got to be the worst by a mile ,no all in 1 accounts
turbine- pro- produced AC1,best CSR i ever seen ,has some of the best licences, good development, good price deals
cons-closed AC2,worst billing system when with microsoft and still not very good, poor implemntation of licences
NCsoft- pro- produced some innovative games like CoH,done a good job with lineage series,,good billing system
cons-not very good csr but second best after turbine in the 4 listed,no all in 1 account, medicore games like AA made and dumped sadly.
In all i trust in the following order
1)ncsoft
2)SoE
3)turbine
4)EA.if not that they got WAR i would not even think of buying anything from them
other companies cant come close to ncsoft. maybe soe right? sure it will with the matrix and star wars galaxies (sarcasm). agency looks kinda cool but it doesnt look as cool as tabula rasa. the only good game they really have is everquest2.
Pretty unfair to judge SoE by MxO which was dead when they took it over and SWG which is a joint ownership game

I agree who would want to support a game that gives them no profit. I wouldnt because i would only want to publish a game that every mmo gamer will like to play and something that is entertaining.

NCSoft was the sole reason Auto Assault was rushed out unfinished.
I'm not excusing NetDevil either, because they were at fault too, but NCSoft is the publisher.
If you've got a cancelled MMO game, there is no way in hell you're the best.
IMHO, NCSoft IS the best.

World of Warcraft is comparable to City of Heroes.
Diablo 2 is comparable to GuildWars.
They are totally the same kind of company
Are you seriously comparing Diablo 2 online play to an MMO? Diablo online play is compareable to that of any free korean PAC games.
I am serious. Almost every aspect of Diablo 2 appears in GuildWars. You just have to look closely.
Doktar - 70 Troll Priest - Perenolde
