I thought the answer to "how to break into the video game business" was: Learn assembler and C.

Well, as a programmer that would be a first step.  But there are many roles in the industry - to name a few 3D modeler, graphic artist, animator, sound engineer, producer, press agent, programmer, level designer, customer service, etc, etc.

Video games make lots of jobs...tis why they cost so damn much moola to make image

    Pa-shaw!

Only the weak go for those washed-out roles ;)

I'd also like to include, marketing, janitor, secretary, Lan Administrator, PC support, lunch room attendant, security guard and mail room attendant.

The problem is most of these position exist as is, in other companies. Only Game engine architecture/design/coding, level designers, molders and skinners have something more video game centric than any average company. Even the Art guys could be working for a marketing company doing about the same thing.

I couldn't image them actually explaining how to get a job as a call center agent at a video game company... or least I couldn't image why anyone would pay for that.

Just a heads up to the kids. Making a video game is not easy work, unlike playing them. It takes a great deal of talent and years of hard work. Game are not made by random people like yourself, they are made by very talented people that have spent allot of time learning how to make code and/or games.

If you don't believe make a easy game like Pong sometime.
