That sucks man, I rly like NC SOFTs games and this cant possibly be good. I hope they can take care of this issue soon and get back to making games which is whats important. Until Blizzard took the world by storm w WoW NC was the largest and most succesful MMO company. I can see why people would like to steal their codes, specially with such success in asia as they have.

I have many times wondered what the heck was going on with this company and it's attitude toward the game, Lineage 2.  You know on one hand they sound so tough on crime, while on the other hand, this game contains the largest number of "bots" and adena farmers of any MMO on the market.

A couple of years ago, a former clan mate told me he knew how to trace some type of code back from online adena web site and found that they in just about every case were traced back to the game servers.  Now, I have no clue how he did  this, nor do I understand the technology as he was extremely computer savvy.  Suffice to say,  the GM's know exactly who is doing what on each server.  The secondary markets make millions upon millions of actual dollars.  You be the judge, but, to me there is quite a bit of money out there changing hands.  Whose hands is that money going?

Few years back they developed a GREAT engine... probably phenominal toolset.  Millions in Development.

Guild Wars, Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa... it was probably going to be used with Lineage 3.

What was probably stolen was the code for that engine.

Well said.  Somebody got paid very little to sit there and pound out that code for a few jackasses to take it and sell it.  Had this happened at a startup company, the profit sharing promised to most employees would disapear.

This doesn't just effect NCSoft, this effects the whole Industry.  As games become more and more profitable you start seeing this and espionage taking place at places that should be focused on creativity... not security.

Kinda like when those guys stole the formula for Coke and took it to Pepsi (or vice versa, I don't remember the whole story)... they got turned in by the opposing company.  That's how it should be, there's alot of honor there.

Actually, I don't think this is as huge of an impact as people are making it out to be.  NCsoft is the worlds second leading mmo publisher, as a result they have alot of money to spare and thier Lineage Title is thier flagship.  Lineage III really hasn't been in production for too long.  Less then 2 years.  A flagship game from a company like NCsoft will see development of over 4 years with the development costing 50+ million US.  Selling the coding the a japanese gaming company really doesn't do much since its still in the raw stages.  Things like basic netcoding and the rendering engine.  It still isn't deep into the game mechanics.  Ontop of it, the source isn't going to be used for private servers since it was given to another game company.

One thing I think is funny is that 60 developers left when the lead producer was fired for poor leadership.  Thats some loyalty that a poor leader just can't do.  Really this has only happened once before in the history of mmo production, and this wasn't even close to being as destructive.
