LAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Every MMORPG I play I experience major lag, and not even being able to play most MMOs at all.... Is it my computer? (laptop, intel pentinum 4, 256 GB RAM, 1.6 GHz) If so I'm getting a new computer anyway.... But if it is my internet connection i've got alot to worry about.  I live with my parents and I'm aged 15 and they simply refuse to change the internet connection (optus speedstream broadband) because they've signed for a 2 year plan and being only halfway through, they'll be losing money if they break the contract now.

First your ram is a mere pittance.  You should have no less than 1gb preferably between 2 and 4.  Your processor is kinda hurtin as well.  You probably shouldn't have less than 2.6 ghz dual core.  And you graphics card which you don't mention most likely should be improved as well.  Good thing you're getting a new computer soon, best keep your grades up haha.

Internet connection is harder to diagnose, what sort of speeds do you get in downstream and upstream?  If it is cable or dsl you shouldnt have much of a problem.  But, your computer is definately a bottleneck.  Regardless of how much information is coming through your computer is struggling to keep up.

Enough RAM, at least:  256 GB....

And everyone says my 4 GB is far more than I need...

it's a good computer, just not for gaming.

As has been said earlier, the big drag on your system is the amount of memory in it.  It is most likely not your broadband connection.  Go to www.dslreports.com/tools and run some tests anyway.

Easy to check. If your lag involves everything stuttering, it's your computer. If everything goes smooth but the game seems to jump back a couple of seconds every now and then, or it takes a while for commands to process, it's your connection. Most likely your computer though, that thing is ancient!

    oh my gawd

Its your ram.  I mean your processor is slow too...but dear God in the celestial heaven above.  Your ram is V-E-R-Y bad.  I cant stress that enough.  The last time I had 256 MB of ram was in 1999.  Friend, that was eight years ago.  In human terms, your memory is comparable to an 88 year old man.  Im suprised you can run anything in terms of current gaming software

    UPGRADE

I remember upgrading to 1 gig of RAM in 2003 because 512 was kinda slow with SWG when it came out.

I upgraded to 2 gigs in 2005 and then 4 gigs in 2007.

You can get a gig of RAM for 45 bucks at newegg.com

I wouldnt buy a 5200.  You'll be SEVERLY bottlnecking your system with  your Gcard and RAM.  You'll regre it.

Upgrade to a 6400....its only 50 more bucks and you wont get a bottlenecking effect with your gcard

    lol

you say that but you bought a 350 dollar video card. If you wanna make full use of that card, you're gonna need the 6400 otherwise you wont experience all that wonderful card has to offer

Hehe I'm surprised this topic is still alive . But i AM getting a new computer, but I want one to suit my school needs and gaming in my spare time. I'm pretty sure the computer in this link :

    http://www.ht.com.au/N/4294967240+4294967009+4294966964

If the link does not work for whatever reason, the info is: Dual Proccesor, 1.8GHz, 2x 516 (1G) of RAM, UMA graphics, 160G hard drive

Is not the best computer for gaming but I would like some to people to rate this computer for me. Not regarding price, however if you insist on mentioning something about the price please say so and remember this is in AU Dollars about 1/3 more  than what it would be in Americia.

Please vote on this poll if you can't bother to post.
